Excellent location for lunch: easy parking and quite close to many of the mall museums. Menu offers both light and more substantial fare. Delicious quiche.Staff are attentive and courteous.

I went for my best friend's birthday and wanted somewhere with good ambiance. The restaurant itself is quite impressive looking, nice lighting, and a fire spectacle by the bar. My main issue is the quality of food for the price. I ordered the sea scallops ($39) and my friend ordered the salmon ($32). The portion of fish was quite small and a few of my scallops were gritty. We ended up ordering $8 fries to help fill us up. For the price, I expected more. I ordered a specialty drink ($25) which was a bourbon wood old fashioned and comes served in a smoking cage. While it was an ok photo op, I can't say it was worth the money. They just need to come down on the prices.

The service provided by James, our server, was extraordinary and we would go back just because of him. Our appetizers (lobster bisque and duck liver parfait) were delicious and the drinks were good. Service was prompt but our main courses were disappointing. My husband’s steak was “horrendous,” dry, chewy, flavorless and over cooked. My burger was fine but nothing extraordinary. The truffle fries were tasty. The restaurant was wonderful about crediting us back the cost of the steak but we will not be ordering either of those entrees again.

I am a international traveler and a United States citizen and resident. This restaurant and meal was recommended while we stayed at hotel for valentines weekend 2020. The venue while nice did not equate to good food. The 4 course meal was tasteless except for the filet mignon. The setting was ok but the meal was very overpriced at $230.00 for two persons including one complimentary “sparking wine”. There are many other restaurants in DC who serve better tasting food for much better prices. I would sacrifice the ambiance of the restaurant for better tasting cuisine and certainly a modest 50% decrease in price. Food served needed to be more flavored less impressive on dishes we cannot pronounce and certainly less expensive

The vibe in the new space is good- clean, open. I ordered the Steak Frites and my colleague ordered the Mushroom Risotto. For food, I would say that the plate was attractive but the steak tasted like charcoal on the outside and was under seasoned. The risotto was good as expected. Our server was missing for very long periods of time which became annoying when we needed a condiment, a refill, or the check. We did have others jump in when they saw us looking around. Overall, I think the place has promise and I would try again!

The food was alright, but nothing extraordinary. The restaurant telephone number is missing from the website, so was unable to call to get any details. Their restaurant week menu didn't specify that it was for dinner only, not lunch.

Not suitable for important meetings. It's an ordinary, no frills cafeteria befitting an ordinary business hotel. Does not deserve the Mandarin name. The best I can say is there were few other customers. The Empress Lounge is no better. Now I know why OpenTable gave me incentive points...

Best refreshing drink I've had in a while: Black-Rose Rum Tumbler. We arrived early for our reservation, and waited it out at the bar. But we (two women of color) felt dismayed after getting seated at a tiny window table and after seeing a white couple who just walked in get seated right away in a better placed four-top. Hostess summoned the manager who apologized, and moved us to another table. We opted for three-course meals. My friend enjoyed her ahi tuna crudo and (her first) sweetbreads (lamb or calf thymus) that were breaded and fried. Because we ate so much baguette with butter, she couldn't finish her prime rib entrée with mashed potatoes. For my 1st course, I liked the braised salsify in the cubed VA ham and endive gratin. But I can't remember seeing endive. The duck came rare as it should. But I like mine not so rare and with crispy skin. I love duck confit, but was disappointed with the dry shredded duck confit in a tartlet. The desserts we ordered looked nice...but my friend would've liked more cake than frosting on the Christmas log, and she like my choux dessert better. But I found the choux a bit hard to break. Service was fine, but server could be more educated about the dishes. We also first got overcharged (more than double what our bill cost). The server fixed the problem, and assured us that he voided the charge. Though, I'm still wary since I won't know till days later if the cards actually got the credit back for the mistake. In the end, we still gave 20% tip. This outing is a treat for me -- I usually don't go out to eat at fancy places, but it's Christmas. If I do return, I will order that delicious drink again and probably do two courses, no dessert, and try the veggie starters and fish entrée. And definitely devour the crusty baguette that greets diners at this nice restaurant.

Finally! Something in that great space in the Mandarin Oriental that used to be CityZen. It's a nice menu. Anytime I can get a great salad and add my choice of protein, I'm happy. That said, I ordered the grilled salmon with the succotash, which was fantastic. My friends' burgers looked uh-may-zing. Two issues - it took a REALLY long time to get bread, even after my friend asked for it, and the pimento cheese and ham gourgeres is just a tiny sandwich on stale bread that I would pass over on a buffet at a reception. Did not meet expectations. Otherwise, really nice to see some of the old Muze staff there - that ensures great service. Honestly, I would choose Amity & Commerce over just about anything at the Wharf, and I plan to.

This was a special experience: 1. Chef Sean is clearly passionate about his work and understands his material. He'll notice the fingerprints on the plate that we don't notice. That statement also works as a metaphor for how we felt about the dishes. We had a grouper, pork steak, scallops, and an assortment of their desserts. Creme brulee was awesome. 2. Attentive service. Coat service, established practices to keep dining area cleared and clean, swift visitations. 3. Smaller menus tend to correlate with better specialization and consistency. They have a rotation of specialty American food. HAVE to try the duck confit parfait. Unlike I've ever tasted. Special and unique deserts. Flavors are potent without the dishes being salty. Although it's familiar American dishes, the execution was actually a unique experience with unexpected flavors. This isn't a seasons 21. This is one of the very few American dining experiences I actually really enjoyed and for sure I'm coming back.

Awesome experience, we were very well greeted by the staff. But the highlight was really the food. I had the duck liver parfait and the filet mignon which were perfectly prepared. My wife had the mushroom soup and the salmon. The staff was very accommodating for my wife's dietary restrictions. It was really a pleasant atmosphere for a dinner for two. As for the dessert they were amazing. My wife had the 11 pillar chocolate pudding cake. She said she would come back to A&C just for that. We are coming back for sure.

I always want to like the MO more. The food is fine and I like the new restaurant. The staff is always exceptional and the space is pretty, though all the wood and glass means that conversation is difficult when it’s crowded. My issue is more the value. Lunch of two salads, a bottle of water, and a split dessert was over $80 after tip.

Hotel restaurants can be disappointing, but not so at the Mandarin Oriental's Amity and Commerce. We were was impressed. The lobby bar was fun and good people watching before dinner. The food was creative, beautifully presented, and complex and vibrant to the taste (i.e., it was delicious). This was for my girlfriend's birthday, and the desert they brought with a candle was also above and beyond (AND... I did not have to remind them). Well done, everyone at Amity and Commerce! We'll be back... Cheers! :D

A beautiful location with food and service that was not competitive with other DC restaurants. Our steak was well cooked but everything else seemed frozen. Our waiter was out of it, awkward and inattentive. We had nothing but water on our table for the first forty minutes and there was barely any other guests. I was hoping for a special night out but was sorely disappointed. Won’t make that mistake again here.

Staying at The Mandarin hotel and grabbing a late dinner. They had a hard time finding the wine we ordered and it took about 15 minutes to arrive. They were very apologetic about the it. Overall food was very good. We had an autumnal salad, French onion soup, grilled pork chop and chicken with mushroom risotto. We were asked how everything was at least six times by 3 different people. Maybe a little too often in my opinion. The atmosphere was modern and lovely. The bill was $260 including wine and a bourbon on the rocks. Kind of pricey. Overall it was a good experience albeit an expensive one.

My wife and I went for dinner and did not have any complaints about the food. The food was a little better than average but certainly not exceptional. However, the reason I’m writing this review is due to the service. Painfully slow. Long waits between every course and they were not busy at all. About five tables occupied in the entire restaurant. Waiter seemed to be hiding in the kitchen for the the vast majority of our meal and busboys did not check on us but were busy setting up tables for the next day. Obviously, there is a serious management issue that would allow for such poor service. Would not recommend and would never go back.

This restaurant opened about 5 days ago. It used to be a new concept but failed completely. This is not the high standard I am used to in a Mandarin Oriental hotel. This is not even a bistro and does not belong in a 5* hotel. It was so noisy with the music one couldn’t talk in a proper manner to each other. Service below zero. It was rather dark, menu was put on the table and a little while later a paper bag with a loaf of bread. Starters: never saw a plate of several cheeses as a starter. Cheese comes after the main course. Due to a poor choice we took a charcuterie platter. On the side about 25 gherkins and one onion. Main course: ordered a pork chop with several vegetables and fries and gravy.Got a pork chop well done but never saw any vegetables nor gravy. My partner ordered a filet mignon medium rare and got this rather well done. Wine was poured out in a very unprofessional way. We complained to the hotel management and they compensated us and therefore thanks to the Mandarin Oriental.

Noisy even with very few people in the room. Small menu with hohum choices. I had the trout special. Whole fish. Moot very flavorful. Planchette was dry, hard and veggies much too salty. Soup was better. It was a stormy night so it was a convenient substitute for going out of the hotel. Adequate? But I wouldn’t go again.
