Overall foods wld have to improve
My family of 4 went here to celebrate my birthday on Saturday. We got a window seat which was lovely. Our server was wonderful; she was friendly and efficient. They checked on us often throughout our meal which was appreciated.
We had 4 starters - the hamachi, mixto ceviche, grilled octopus and the soft shell crab taco. All of them were delicious but we particularly enjoyed the octopus and soft shell crab. For entrees 2 of us had the tuna, one had the hokkaido scallops and pork belly and I had the arroz con pat (duck and rice). We enjoyed our entrees very much. They were all large portions which surprised us for fine dining. Their dessert menu has changed from their website, we had a passionfruit mousse jelly and a chocolate creme brûlée with apples. I liked them both but my preference would be the chocolate one. My sons liked the passionfruit dessert.
This is a great restaurant and we hope to go again.
Went for Dineout Vancouver 2019, but also ordered some add-on dishes. Everything was perfect!
Some of the best meals I ever had! Outstanding service, drinks and food came prompt, very kind staff.
Had their dine out Vancouver menu ($45). Plate presentation was phenomenal, food preparation was also thoughtful. Food was delicious as well, definitely one of the best restaurants I had during the dine out fest.
Excellent sashimi, caviar from Northern Divine and entrees that included Ling Cod, crispy pork belly and Spanish-Japanese influences. Free macaroons at the end to finish our meal. Thank you!
Great service, great food, always a treat to eat here, exceptional wine list, the menu for dineout was creative but does not compare to their normal fare.
as always, an outstanding dining experience in every aspect, the food, service, and ambience. I look forward to my next visit.
The environment of the restaurant was great and most of their food was good. But I was disappointed on their service that I received from Ancora False Creek. When we had our dessert on the table, none of server came and check if everything okay. And obviously it was something wrong with dessert as we stopped eating after tasting first bite of the dessert. Later on, they rushed us to leave and cleaned up the dessert as they have another client waiting for the table. We still gave 15% tips but would never recommend friends and family to this restaurant.
The dine out menu was great!
Every friendly bartender and the service was great! Genmaicha dessert was delicious.
Very interesting and tasty selections during Dine out Vancouver menu.
I think rather over priced especially for the vegetarian option.
All good, especially pork belly
Though fish least favoured main.
Would return to try the usual menu and very lovely venue and service
The food is a very unique fusion of South American and Japanese cuisine. Wonderfully flavourful and delicious, with attention to presentation. The location provides a romantic view and the staff provided first class service.
We were delightfully surprised and will definitely return.
Plesant surprised. Server was really knowledgeable and polite. Food presentation was amazing. Very artsy
Came here with a friend for Dine out Vancouver. Great food- interesting fusion of Peruvian and Japanese. Friendly, helpful, and attentive staff - a real pleasurable dining experience. Highly recommend and will be coming back again.
Booked Ancora for DOV this year. Food value, plating, atmosphere , taste, drink were outstanding. However, on the other hand, service was on the opposite side of the scale. We were rushed after main course. Server did not ask us if we like any coffee or tea with our dessert. Once dessert was done, bill was given without asking if we need anything else. My friends and I were rushed to paid when the server just show up at our table with credit card machine. After paying the bill, server was never return to refill water or whatsoever. Very disappointed. It kind of ruined the whole night by the service we had there at Ancora.
We really enjoyed our experience. The menu is just different enough for a little exploration, but not so much as to jolt the senses into confusion. The "soup" was delectable, and my husband's dish was so good he shared it with the group of us - he had the pork belly. My ling cod was moist and flavourful, though the scalloped potato concoction was bit rich/salty. We had the dine out menu so I can't comment on the regular items, but my favourite was the first plate, consisting of a ceviche in a spiced tomato-like sauce.
We are going to there for dine out. Good beef taco, greasy pork belly, and weird chocolate cake with ginger flavour. Their entrees are special and inventive but doesn’t suit our taste. It’s a good try for dine out because of the around view.
Overall experience was great. Jeremy is a great server!
Food was super good! Service started great and dropped to ok. Was a mix up and our bill came in at half at what it should have been. Paid without realizing. So the deal was unbelievable. The Japanese Peruvian Mash up is so good. A definite solid place.
Menu and wine pairings were thoughtfully designed. However, service was lacking and sloppy for a restaurant of this caliber. Kitchen was also exceedingly slow to the point of distraction. Overall, food was fairly sophisticated and elegant but service and delivery needs significant polishing.
I had the most terrible experience in this place.
The service was slow. Seemed that the waitress just started on that night without training. I asked for a cup of warm water at the beginning it took almost 20 mins for me to get that.
While eating the meals, The waitress constantly interrupted us asking “ are you still working on that”.
The quality of the food wasn’t to my satisfaction at all.
They reserved a table on the second floor for us. On the way back I noticed they divided the customers into “white” and “ non white”. All the whites on the first floor with a nice view and perhaps better service!!! Non whites all upstairs with the terrible service that I described. I will never go back again and will let all my friends too. Not recommended at all.
Fabulous food and service. Dine out Vancouver has very good 3 courses dinners; we enjoyed every courses
Food was decent, but it was below my expectation from an expensive restaurant. The ling cods that me and my friend had were super salty that we both finished the whole cup of water for only one palm portion of serving. Service was disappointing too. The server gave us the bill while we just started on our desserts, which was really not something we would expect.
Came to visit again for dine out because of a previous great experience. This year’s is definitely not as good. The most noticeable being the fish from the main dish being over seasoned. It was extremely salty.
We were there for Dine Out 2019 and we thoroughly enjoyed! Great value! 👍
I found the cod dry. I love Perruvian food but this is wetcoast foo
I satisfied the taste and service at site. However, only I was discouraged one thing that I asked about vegetarian option over the phone and they requested me to send email, I did so but never they never get back to us... Hope they build a good communication way or better procedure via email as well.
It was fine dine but the waiter was very busy couldn’t manage big party tables and couple other small party tables. Feel bad as everyone wanted something all at same time!! Working hard but seem understaff maybe... everything was good and tasty
Great atmosphere and service in Dine Out Vancouver !
Surprisingly fabulous fusion of Japanese and Peruvian flavours. Delightful. Service was prompt, polite, professional, and could have been warmer.
The sushi may be overpriced for what you get (our piece of toro tuna was not fatty at all which led my husband to believe it couldn't have been toro) but the sablefish was cooked and spiced to perfection and the brussel sprouts were absolutely amazing. The sea bass was very well de-boned before it was served but was otherwise not overly exciting to the palate. The cocktail with whisky and tequila tasted as awful as it sounded so don't think just because it's on the menu means it was a good idea :) I can't recall what my cocktail was but it was red (maybe had grenadine?) and rum-based, I think, and included a slice of lime and was very good :)
The restaurant itself is extremely beautiful and the service was fantastic. It was a bit of a downer though, that it was so empty. When we arrived at 7pm there were only 5-6 other tables seated and that didn't increase during our visit. I think maybe a quarter or perhaps a third of the downstairs tables were occupied and upstairs was completely vacant. Perhaps this was indicative of it being a slow Thursday evening after the December holidays but it still was kind of sad that it wasn't busier. Would love to try Ancora again in the summer when the windows are opened up and that fabulous false creek view is on better display.
Food and service were great. Our waiter George was awesome. He had many great insights to the menu and we really enjoyed his service.
This is a difficult review to write because I liked the restaurant but there were a few things that detracted substantially from the experience.
First we had their signature glacier tray for two and after finishing my wife took another piece of bread. I felt like we needed to stop for a burger on the way home. If this was an appetizer plate it was too expensive and if it was an entree, there was not enough food.
Second the waiter seemed to be either too busy or doing a lot of other jobs. We waited for at least ten minutes every time we needed him for something.
Third we ordered desert and although it was good it was laughably small. My carrot cake looked deconstructed and was literally three bites.
All the food was good there just wasn't enough of it for the several hundred dollar bill. The staff were friendly and the location is great on the waterfront.
We had a wonderful set lunch here enjoying each artistic course presentation and the great waterfront view. Before the main entree (ling cod), I was already planning to come back. It’s a dining experience that leaves an imprint on your senses from the visuals to your flavour palette, creating a special memory with your loved ones.
Rain pouring outside, amazing food and wine pouring inside with service designed to melt tension in any dining customer. It was so good I reserved a table for the very next day!
always top notch, very hospitable staff always willing to strike up a conversation, best sushi master in Vancouver
Excellent in every respect
Wonderful way to celebrate American Thanksgiving in Vancouver. Exquisite meal and service.
