Wow!! This is the real deal. Delicious, creative food combined with top notch service. Beautiful spot for a romantic dinner or special occasion. Good Covid protocol in place. This is my 2nd visit her and both times the food blew me a way. First time I was not impressed with the service but they've definitely kicked it up a notch. Everything was perfect this time. Cant wait to go back
What a treat. I have dined around the world and enjoyed many Michelin star restaurants and the delight experienced here on the palete and visual presentation was as good as many of the star chefs delivered elsewhere. Bravo. I will be returning.
We had a great meal and our waitress was very helpful and did an awesome job
The view was very nice
I can't wait to return in the summer and enjoy the deck
Delicious Sunday lunch on the patio in the sunshine...what could be wrong with that!?
We enjoyed the food, every dish on the ancora glacier taste well. The only downside is the service. Overall is lacking a welcoming vibe. Our server was kind of rushing us to place order and lack of table touching after the food was served. Asking my husband to place the drink order when I am in the bathroom and come back right after I sat down again. I haven't get a chance to even look at the menu. We would love to order more oyster after the platter but seems to be hard to spot our server, not returning to refill our emptied water once. We ended up decide we would just take the bill. Overall, it's not a terrible experience but definitely can see room for improvements. We came to celebrate my husband's birthday, its kind of disappointed with the price we pay. Again, food was good, thank you kitchen team.
Food is okay only except for the sable fish which is actually pretty good. Otherwise value just isn't there especially the seafood platter. You'd be much better off going to other restaurants for that price.
Overall great experience, the ribeye steak was amazing, the wild Salmon sashimi and the prawn roll was just ok. The house old fashion was remarkable.
It was a great birthday experience. We were seated upstairs by ourselves and our server was extremely pleasant and friendly which made the dining experience more enjoyable. The food came out right away and tasted delicious. We ordered the prawn tempura roll and some salmon/tuna nigiri to start. All of it was so fresh, even the tempura was still hot. I really enjoyed the hidden wasabi under the salmon nigiri, it was a very pleasant surprise. In addition the prawn tempura roll had spicy mayo underneath the roll which gave each bite that extra kick. After our starters we shared the lobster and crab risotto and the sablefish. The risotto was all the right flavours, in my opinion, it tasted exactly like mac and cheese but with bites of real shrimp in it! Who doesn't love mac and cheese? It's a very filling and creamy dish so sharing this one was perfect. The sablefish was very flavourful as well. It fell apart with just tapping my fork to it. It was served over a bed of quinoa and had some bok choy on the side. This was my partners first time eating sablefish (i've tried it many times various places) and we were both very content with our decision to get this. We walked out feeling happy, content, and not overly bloated or full which is key when I go out to eat. Would highly recommend if you're a seafood fan like me :)
I am very very appreciative of good music levels.
This visit the music did not interfere with my hearing the talk between the 4 of us.
The food was good. The service and ambience was excellent .
Food was great! Service was lacking - had to wait outside to be seated because a person waiting for a pick-up order was standing in the walkway, first interactions with person at reception was awkward, waiters frequently interrupting even to check if you're still busy with your plate (you don't have to interrupt to check if someone is still eating) etc. Delicious food, good value, great location, but service needs attention.
I have been going to Ancora at least 2-3 times a month. I live next door to the restaurant and know the servers by name. I have always had a positive experience in this restaurant except on Saturday October 24, 2020. The manager told my guests, when they arrived, they only have 2 hours and that the table to be given to another party. I booked the reservation 2 weeks in advance and was NEVER told about a time restriction. (if I knew we would have booked somewhere else). The manager was abrupt, didn’t seem to care that I was a repeat customer as the server had just provided me cocktail and walked up to our table and gave us 5 mins warning to leave. I told the manager I would not be back and she asked me if I was joking. She did come back after a few mins and say the other party was running late so we have a few more mins but this was such a bad experience I won’t be back. 2 hours on a Saturday night, having to be rushed, getting 5 min warnings, and spending $$$ on the bill was just not worth it in the end:-(
Terrific meal, service and ambiance... I will recommend to others.
Particlarly good job with covid safety protocols. Clear screens between tables, look good, provide openness and a safe feeling.
Great evening....wonderful waiter.
Very good service, beautiful location and restaurant, excellent food. Expensive but worth it.
As usual we had a spectacular meal at Ancora. The Sable fish and Bigeye tuna Sashimi are amazing. Excellent service and wine knowledge of the serving staff make this a perfect place to dine on False Creek.
Celebrating our anniversary and thanksgiving together. Food was delicious and it was our first time there
The soup was absolutely delicious! The whole meal was a flavor explosion with each mouthful. Our waitress was very sweet and very attentive and our food was perfectly timed.
First time pisco sour! Yummo.
The only disappointment is that I mentioned it was our anniversary in the reservation and no one commented!
Our family went here for Thanksgiving. Though we had the option to go for the Thanksgiving menu, we opted for the regular menu.
Food was fantastic and one of us opted for the Old Fashioned Experience where it's made tableside. A bit pricey but awesome for special occasions.
BTW there are indoor heaters so don't be shy about coming here in the winter and taking a window seat! We went on a cold and rainy day but we were cozy throughout the meal.
First time here! Well worth the wait. Food was awesome and our server was very welcoming and patient with us considering our late arrival. 🙏💗
Will be back for more celebrations!
The only issue we jad with the restaurant is that it is very expensive, more than most high end restaurants so this would prevent is from recommending or going back. We can have all the positive aspects without the expenxe.
Great food, atmosphere and company. Patio was hot and well socially distanced. Highly recommend
We love this restaurant. However this time was a one off.
The ambience is beautiful and service was very good.
Unfortunately the food was unexpectedly disappointing.
The omakase served some very salty fishy nigiri. They were not edible.
The paella was also salty although flavourful.
Panna cotta really nice and decedant.
The view and ambience kind of made up for the expensive experience.
Really hope it's a one off.
The food offerings were different, delicious and the service was excellent. Located on the water, the restaurant is well appointed and in a marvellous location. We will definitely go back.
I took my husband and his family here for his birthday. Honestly it is a beautiful restaurant with and amazing view and really cool and unique food and drink options. We thought everything tasted delicious.
There were only two things that really bugged me in the end, which is why I am giving three stars. Like I said it was my husband's birthday dinner and beforehand, I had told them the occasion and expressed how special I wanted the night to be. When we arrived (on time) they asked us if we would like to eat outside, we said yes and they ended up seating all of us in an awkward back corner of the whole patio, and it wasn't busy at all. there were parties of two sitting on the huge tables next to water. I do not understand why we got sat in the back corner.
Second was at the end of our dinner, when we had tried many things and were obviously okay with spending money and making the evening special, I asked the waitress if she had a special birthday dessert. Something that would have a candle and birthday writing. She said yes, they did a complimentary thing. She ended up bring my husband this sad plate with a little wafer cookie, a chocolate that said happy birthday and some weird gummy. When I had looked at pictures online, people had these beautiful desserts with writing and a candle. I dont know if it was a lack of communication but after seating us at a crappy corner spot, and bringing out a crappy little dessert it honestly felt like they were treating us like second class citizens when I had no problem paying the $330 bill.
all in all those two things did not ruin the night. I will give them the benefit of the doubt especially during these times, but I am still a little hesitant and a little offended because of those two situations.
Great Lunch at Ancora. The food was delicious, ordered the Yucha fries with Huancaina, Octopus Anticucho, Crab Causas and Mixed ceviche. I would have given it a full 5 stars but the octopus anticucho had two 1/2 inch pieces of octopus lol! The Picarones for dessert is a must! Celebrated a 25 year aniversary and told them in advanced but when I got there the table was bare, no flowers, nothing special. That was a bit dissapointig but overall it was a great special lunch!
Had a nice time!
Love the false creek water views from the patio, the food is amazing too! Highly recommend the seafood towers! 🐠
I love your patio. My only regret is that patio days going forward are numbered. Sarah took care of us and she was fabulous.
We're very happy Ancora is still there in False Creek. We go for the Ceviche and the Sablefish. This time, the Sablefish was pan-fried with a sort of black sauce on it that seemed slightly burned and overpowered the fish. I guess it was an off-day. The mixed Ceviche was delicate and delicious. We'll certainly go again.
Food was so mediocre. My steak was salty and chewy. Bluwater has way better seafood tower! Service was good. Ambience is so so. The diner at the next table had his radio on and was loud. Servers didn’t do anything. We definitely won’t be returning!
The seafood was fresh but a bit overpriced. The service was not satisfactory because our server wasn’t attentive and quite cold. We expected a lot more for the price we paid.
A refreshing menu of surprises-the cerviche shooter and causas to start and any of the main courses make a splendid dinner. Interesting cocktail choices and an endless wine menu finish off a great experience.
We recently had a wonderful visit to Ancora for cocktail hour.
The drinks were lovely and amazing food as well. Prices were very reasonable and the quality outstanding. We will be back again for sure!
Another fabulous experience on your patio. It’s becoming a bit of a habit.
My Husband and are foodies , we have travelled extensivly and have eaten at a variety of places from New York to Montreal and everything in between. We started with the Yam soup, it was rich and delicate Our main course was the steak with a side of mushrooms. Our steak was tender and juicy I enjoyed every minute at this Restaurant . The Sangria was amazing and their cocktail of the evening was wonderful has well . The staff were pleasant and we look forward to coming back to this restaurant again
Just excellent service and food. Brad is lovely and I highly recommend this location. The owner and manager were present and incredibly welcoming. The level of care for their patrons and their safety lets us relax and truly enjoy the ambience and food.
Everything was superb particularly the sable fish which was absolutely to die for. Manuela was a fabulous server.
Excellent and inventive cuisine. Amazing flavours and well worth the visit. Only negative was the Pisco Sour cocktail, which was not in the Peruvian Style and tasted like lemonade.
