Meh! Been here 3x’s now. Enjoyed the overall experience on my first visit. The ambience is the best part. Lovely patio overlooking the water.
We ordered sablefish and it took over 40min for it to arrive. We sat down at 7:30. It was 9pm when I complained about entree taking too long. I was supposed to be home to put my son to bed at 10pm. The manager took both our sablefish off the bill and said it doesn’t usually take this long. Besides that everything else was fantastic. Everything tasted great, beautiful view.
The ceviche wasnt fresh. The chef replaced it with a better one but blamed it on “the new guy”. Great patio.
It doesn't get any better than Ancora. The food is spectacular as is the service and wine list. It's not inexpensive for Vaancouver but if you eat in very good European restaurants then Ancora is a bargain.
Really high quality sushi. Was a great experience.
We sat outside the staff were lovely and we enjoyed some wonderful wine and great food.
Went before The Eagles concert with hubby. Valet was not out at 5pm as he should have been. That was only negative. Food and service was exceptional.
Delicious food, small menu, great vibe for dates, nice waterfront view.
One of the best dining out experiences I've had in months! All of our entrees were full of flavor and the presentation was exquisite. George was a perfect server - attentive at the right times with a lovely personality.
I must say I'm surprised.
Sablefish with BBQ sauce really? Overall experience poor , will not return or recommend
Was there for anniversary. The food was great, good selection of whiskey. The fish was fantastic.
Their prawn tempura roll was, in a word, divine. The rice was such a nice consistency and the bite as a whole was so delicious. The crispy prawn with yucca was so interesting and a flavourful bite. Lastly, I had the green salad which was refreshing and crisp. Bartender made custom drinks that we loved. Service was good. We are going back soon!
Great pisco sours and service was great, but Sunday food selection was very limited, with effectvely no seafood.
I had dinner here with a friend to celebrate my birthday. I really wanted to like Ancora, but I’m still scratching my head trying to figure out how this restaurant has such good reviews. I understand that taste is subjective and I usually don’t bother writing reviews, but I was so incredibly disappointed with our meal.
We ordered the glacier, fried soft shell crab, premium big eye tuna sashimi (on special), scallop causas (on special), the scallops and pork belly, and sable fish entrees. The glacier was nothing special. As far as seafood platters go it was pretty underwhelming. Our sashimi was good, but it’s not like they had to do much there. Our soft shell crab was so soggy we didn’t even finish it. The abuti scallops over squid ink potatoes was a glorified potato salad. The entrees were just weird. Pork belly and sable fish were bland... And consider myself an adventurous eater, but, in my humble opinion, flavours made no sense. Best things we had all night were the complimentary macarons and shortbread cookies that came with the bill. Our server was great though, no complaints there.
As far as fine dining goes in Vancouver, you’re MUCH better off at somewhere like Botanist. I’d rather eat at a mall food court. Strong words, I know, but let me save you the disappointment and your money—Go somewhere else.
Very good food we had the tasting menu on a random Thursday night. Food and flavour was impeccable, service was attentive and we enjoyed every single dish.
The food is good. However, the service is poor. Our waitress delivered dishes without any descriptions of the food. We had wine pairing , she didn’t tell us about the wine neither.
There’s a looooooooong in between time along dishes
The sablefish is the best in the city (I used to say West) and absolutely melts in your mouth. We sampled three entrees (one seafood, one land and one vegetarian) which were all terrific - well balanced, beautifully presented and wonderful flavour. Save room for inventive desserts - who knew crunchy quinoa bits could be so tasty atop black sesame?
Experience at Ancira was as always outstanding :)
However, realized next morning that valet attendant took the set of keys for 2 of my apartments that were kept in enclosed middle console ??!? Still waiting for a valet company to follow up :(
We had a great experience; the staff and overall service was the difference in making this an unforgettable dining experience.
Excellent! Awesome experience, we will come back for sure.
Everything was great, except that the music was much too loud for a restaurant of this high quality.
It was for an anniversary and they were very sweet to put a card with congratulations to your anniversary written. The sable fish was very good better than I had in blue water. Steak was not excellent but acceptable. Thank you.
We were well taken care of by our server Elizabeth, the food was exceptional and authentic, my wife was extremely pleased with all aspects of Ancora.
The food was fresh and tasty. All the dishes (from appetizer to desserts) were flavourful and delicious without being unnecessarily rich. Excellent service by all staff.
It was a great experience, loved the food!
The place might be a bit loud for business meals. But I will definitely recommend this place to my friends.
The food and wine was amazing
Went twice for the DineOut Vancouver, very impressed with the mix of Japanese/Peruvian fusion, not authentic, but close enough. Second time, the pasta dish I was coming back for, did not turn out great , the pasta and sauce over cooked, soft, dark color and dry, not good. The rest it was consistently good.
Have been wanting to try Ancora for a while now. Took advantage of the Dine Out deal. Will have to return to savour their regular items!
Great experience all round, superb wine list-especially champagne section, prix fix dine out menu very good, need to come try the regular menu as it was not offered, friendly staff and professional, great waterfront views
Unfortunately we made a reservation for this restaurant in Dec 17 for a lunch in late Jan 18. On arrival at the restaurant we were informed they were not open this week. No comms or anything before arrival.
Nice food, flavours mild. Original plate presentation.
The food at Ancora is always delicious and never disappoints.
We went for dine out menu. We both had albacore tuna, nothing much special about it. Presentation was just basic, they can do better. However, the main course was good. We both have braised beef.
Service was ok, I think he tried too hard to impress. Keep calling us my “dear” my “dear”, I found it’s bit inappropriate, probably it’s his style. Trying to hard.
Service was ok, we finished our main course and had to wait for the dessert, server was no where to find, same thing happen after the dessert. He had to serve table on main floor and second floor, which was the reason he was no where to find.
Probably will go back just for regular menu, give them another try.
George our host was great! Food beautifully presented.
The server was really nice
We came here early dinner and seated second floor on weekend. I like the atmosphere of this restaurant. However, next to our table, four people are seating already and they were crowded because two kids couldn’t sit still. After they left, next customer also kids and parents. I guess, the seat is for the family who bring kids. I tried to keep smiling at my partner and tried to enjoying “romantic “ dinner . But it was difficult and I felt pretty disappointed. It was nice dinner and I would like to come back here but no toddler next to our table. I need to tell the restaurant that give us quieter table.
I had brunch here on a foggy Sunday when the most attractive view was the food on my plate. I had a hard time choosing between the duck cassoulet made with confit de canard, Peruvian beans (like cannellini but brown), chorizo, and poached eggs; and the paella croqueta, made with sablefish croquettes, Peruvian corn, chorizo, shrimps, adobo huancaina, and poached eggs. In the end, I opted for the former with the two most perfectly poached eggs I have experienced.
