Ancora Waterfront Dining + Patio Ratings and Reviews
Good food and good service.
It was a cold and rainy November night I want to come back in the summer great food and atmosphere
great food, great service and great halibut. great for date and family dinners
We live very close to Ancora and have never been disappointed with the food and service of this fantastic restaurant. The staff is very knowledgeable and professional. We will definitely go back and so will our friends whom we have introduced to this neighbourhood gem.
The restaurant is taking advantage of its location. Seafood platter is a rip-off and not fresh. Appetizers and entrees are nicely presented but the sable fish comes with a big chunk of turnip which seems deceiving for the portion. If you are looking for fine dining seafood, I suggest Blue Water Cafe or Five Sails for a more genuine experience.
Good food, good service, good drinks.
One of the best over all experiences we've had in Vancouver
Halibut ceviche was phenomenal. Lobster risotto was exceptional. The halibut main course was another success. They do everything so very well
We had no idea where Ancona was or anything about the food, but I had called a favorite restaurant for reservations, and it was closed for a private event. I know the staff there quite well, and it was recommended that we go to Ancona for my friend's birthday. Wow!!! Fantastic view of the water, and when it is warm, lovely outdoor seating. My friend focused on the Japanese food, and we both had the wonderful scallops as an appetizer. I had the other choices, and we both were so happy. The sushi chef is the "real deal--Japanese and trained to be a sushi chef" so we were quite amazed. It is more in the higher priced range, but well worth it because of location, view, service and food. My friend also had a lovely macaroon type birthday treat delivered. Lunch and dinner and we'll go back and recommend it.
This is a nice local restaurant with high service, there was more wait staff than patrons! The food was nice although nothing special compared to other higher end restaurants.
Lobster chupe was very good. Sable fish was superb.
Four for dinner. Everything was up to expectations except our desert order did not go in! After waiting a long time we finally mentioned it and we did get it. I think as a sign of good faith they should have deducted it from the bill , or at least one of them!
Just a classy, excellent restaurant with space to breath.
Very attractive restaurant with innovative dishes. Quiet restaurant with outstanding service.
We had a very enjoyable meal, good food, fine wine and attentive service. Nice view of the marina when it is light outside. Seafood dishes were excellent. Would be a favorite restaurant, if we lived in Vancouver!
Well Done!! The food was wonderful. There wete some amazing flavours in thd dishes we had.
Great menu selection.
We we're in Vancouver for the weekend to visit famail and wanted an excellent restaurant to celebrate the occasion. We could not have been happier with the choice. From the moment we arrived our waiter orchestrated a memorable experience from helping us navigate the menu to the timing of the courses. The food itself was exceptional with the Peruvian/Asian influence apparent. I loved the halibut and the scallops and Pork belly was also great. The halibut ceviche and lobster risotto are not to be missed as appetizers. Finally, the wine steward was great at helping us select local BC wines to complement the meal at reasonable prices.
The food and service were excellent food and service. But a little pricey.
Superb flavors and service
Outstanding creative cuisine. Japanese and Peruvian influences work amazingly well together!
Lovely place, outstanding ambiance, beautiful view, great service. Delicious food, very overpriced.
Beautiful view with great food
Service was slow and needs improvement
We had such an amazing waiter! Loved our meal so special!!!
A delightful early evening dinner on the Patio overlooking the seawalk and Marina. Great atmosphere and very professional service. Our waiter provided helpful advice and descriptions of the menu. The sommelier provided great suggestions to pair with our food and in line with our preferences. The dishes were creative and perfectly executed with great attention to presentation using the finest locally sourced fresh produce.
Absolutely wonderful menu, extremely unique tasting dishes, loved our meal and service was professional and attentive.
Stunning view of False Creek and all that entails as the sun sets! Every dish was to be savoured. The Aji Panca Glazed Sablefish was silky and the eggplant purée underneath was a delish accompaniment. We finished off with yummy spicy Picarones. Rather inattentive and icy server was the only negative in an otherwise great experience.
Excellent service and delicious food.
The waterfront view is amazing.
Great service! Great food.
After a long walk from the hotel to the restaurant, it was amazing to sit outside at the waterfront. Service was quite friendly and helpful but the highlight was the food. From the Japanese rolls and halibut ceviche to the lobster risotto and tomato and anchovies salad as starters. For mains, we ordered halibut and scallops with pork belly. The latter a must I'd highly recommend. By far the best meal we had in Vancouver.
We tried this restaurant because it was rated one of the best seafood restaurants in Vancouver and only a step behind the Blue Water Cafe. I agree with that rating.
We started out sharing two appetizers: Crispy prawns and wild sockeye sashimi. Both were marvelous and both were unexpectedly huge portions.
The prawns had a tasty sauce and presented an interesting mixture of complex flavors.
The salmon had that intense sockeye flavor and the flesh almost melted in your mouth. This was obviously very fresh fish - which made me wonder whether they kept the fish live in tanks on site and harvested them on demand. (Probably not but you get my point).
Because we also shared the main courses I am able to critique both dishes.
One main course was the local Haida Gwaii Halibut, which was also fresh and outclassed the halibut I had eaten several times earlier in the week at competing restaurants, e.g., Yew (at the Four Seasons) and at the Point Restaurant (Wichaninnish Inn on Vancouver Island).
The other main course was Seared Scallops and Pork Belly. I didn't think that pork belly would go well with scallops. I was right. Even so, the scallops were to die for.
After eating most of the main courses we were so full that we passed on dessert.
Throughout the meal our waiter was most attentive and helpful in making recommendations.
Overall, Ancora served the meals that I had during this visit to Vancouver and most likely during any of my previous visits over the past 17 years. It ranks up there with the best restaurants in San Francisco - and is less expensive.
Very enjoyable evening, food was delicious, lovely to try some different flavours and food combinations. Would highly r recommend for both excellent food and charming staff
The chef takes food to a whole new level of excellence. Tasty beyond compare. Service staff make you feel like you're the only ones in the restaurant. First class all the way. We love this place.
Amazing food - creative, simple, fresh, light. The service is not up to speed, however; at this high price point, service needs to be far more efficient, accurate and attentive.
Nice food,beautiful view, lazy service.
Really good other than when we first came in, we didn't get served right away and I wasn't sure if I was talking to the right person about my reservation. However, during the actual dining, the service was excellent (except for one lady kind of had a poker face). The 2 male servers were really knowledgeable of the dishes they are serving and served with a genuine nice attitude.
Bread w/home made hummus - bread was great, hummus needed some fat, a little dry and rough in texture, but tastes good!
You can also customize your cocktail! Ask your server!
Ancora Glacier ($72)- very fresh seafood, with the tuna tartare and the ceviche being the winners. The crab causa was great, but i felt the beet potato underneath didn't quite match the crab flavour. Overall portion wasn't big but u can really taste the freshness.
Nova Scotia Lobster Risotto ($22)- very lemony, if you don't like strong lemon aroma/tartness of lemon, this may not be your favourite. I personally like the dish, with the hazelnut adding the crunch to the dish was superb. However, we found a piece of shell in the lobster, no big deal to us, as we cared more about the taste and freshness, but if you care, there u have it.
Octopus ($16)-Appetizer Catch of the Day , nice and tender, with spiced sauce and beet potato, very good.
On the house- a tiny up of cold pea soup with quinoa, we devoured it, texture was very smooth, quinoa gave a really nice crunch, an unexpected gem!
1.3lb Fresh Sea Bass ($38) Entree Catch of the Day, star of the show, grilled, stuffed with lemon and thyme, plus peruvian spice. Definitely the winning dish of the night.
Dessert - Earl Grey Brulee with blueberry lavender ice cream, earl grey biscuits, very good but on the rich side. Also ordered another dessert with leche and guava ice cream, also very good, guava ice cream refreshes the palate.
Total bill came to $140 per person (2 of us), food and 3 drinks, and it came with 2 mini short cakes and 2 mini macarons.
One of the best dinners we've ever had. Everything was top notch. Best sashimi and ceviche we've ever had. View and ambience were wonderful.
Great location especially on a beautiful sunny day. Our server was great and personable. The seafood is very fresh and delicious. It would be nice if the restaurant could provide more gluten free options for celiacs (a little disappointed that I couldn't have the sushi rolls because of the seasoning in the rice - such an easy fix). I would definitely go back.
Delightful service and meal and view and ambience.
