Anima Trattoria and Wine Bar
Anima Trattoria & Wine Bar was developed by husband and wife team, Renaldo and Angela, with the intention of bringing a little piece of Italy to their Etobicoke neighbourhood. Our aspiration is to provide a place where diners can feed their soul while sipping wine. Inspired by the many trattorie across Italy, we strive to provide an upscale dining experience in a casual and cozy setting.
Reflecting the values of fresh and local, which is central to Italian cuisine, Chef Renaldo places a strong emphasis on using the finest ingredients in his cooking, supporting local businesses wherever possible. Each item on Anima’s menu is meant to pair perfectly with one of our versatile wines, which have been carefully selected to reflect Italy’s diverse regions and geography.
The result: Italian soul food at its best.

The fact that my nine year old goddaughter cleaned her dinner plate speaks volumes!
Loved this place. From the olives served at the start, to the appetizer to the main dish the quality was outstanding. The flavours were creative and bold. We were one of the only tables on a very quiet Monday night but the service was great and no one was rushing us at all. Highly recommend and I will definitely be back.
Food and service with both outstanding; would definitely recommend. Amazing pastas and wines were enjoyed around the table. Lovely night.
I absolutely LOVED Anima! I’ve been twice now and I have never been disappointed! I highly recommend the mussels, veal meatballs, and braised beef pasta (it was incredible)!!
First time to this little restaurant in the Queensway. Nice place for a leisurely after theatre dinner. The service was excellent. The food could have been a little better. The Caesar salads were disappointing for an Italian resaurant ( used the outer layers of the lettuce and were tossed lightly with what seemed like a bottled dressing). Our guests and I ordered the veal which was tastily served. My husband’s steak was grissly and left unfinished. The chef offered to prepare something else but he declined so they removed the steak from our bill. Enjoyed the fact that we weren’t rushed out and the waiter continued to refill our water glasses after the bill had been paid and we stayed to chat with our friends.
Stumbled upon this restaurant on a last minute whim. What a gem in my neighbourhood. The food was absolutely delicious! Everything is made in house. Had a chance to meet/talk with Renaldo, the Chef/owner. He is soooo passionate about his food and the restaurant experience he wants his customers to have. They have a wonderful selection of wines which you can get ALL by the glass if you wish. Amazing!
Going back on Friday w/friends!
Great food. Extensive wine list . A great new place on the Queensway.
Took my Italian born Dad for brunch. We had a great meal. Highly recommend the restaurant. Great option for dates, meals with family and friends and I am sure hen staff would accommodate special events :)
Even during a power outage this restaurant was amazing. Chef Renaldo had no hydro in his restaurant but still cooked us an amazing meal, we enjoyed delicious pasta, an excellent bottle of wine and awesome tiramisu. These folks will always deliver no matter what. Thank you and see you again soon.
Animals opened 5 months ago in our neighbourhood. We enjoyed the charcuterie very much. We ordered the small one and it was plenty for 2.
The branzino was prepared well..whole fish with risotto stuffing. Thank goodness, without asking, the chef was gentle with salts so that was perfect for me.
The by the glass wine selection is all Italian and on the expensive side. I think they should include great but less expensive Californian ones too.
So pleased with our meal and experience.
We went in a Tuesday evening with my family for a birthday dinner. It was quiet and welcoming.
The hostess was gracious and lovely.
The ambience has a rustic simplicity.
The food was excellent and the prices were fair. (We were treated to a complimentary birthday dessert)
We will return again .. happy to have found a great neighbourhood spot.
Absolutely fantastic meal! Great cocktails, impressive wine list and lots of options for both vegetarians and carnivores. Can't wait to come back.
Great spot. I have eaten here numerous times in the last 6 months and it is special every time. The food is delicious, really good wine list, good service and the owners are so lovely. They make you feel welcome, to stay as long as you want, you never feel rushed to finish your dinner. We also had a wedding shower here on a Sunday afternoon and it was delightful!
Fairly new place. Not busy the night I was in, but it should be!
Great food and service!
Amazing food, service was great and fast pace. Extremely friendly and accommodating! Chef/owner came out after our meal which truly made our night special. Would definitely recommend this wine bar! We will be back soon 😄
Amazing restaurant! I have beeen here multiple times now and the food, service and experience is top notch! Best Italian restaurant in the area. Chef Renaldo is very talented and provides a very welcoming, friendly environment. I would highly recommend.
We were celebrating my husband’s birthday and had a wonderful meal and experience. Our 11 month old was treated to risotto and his own panacotta. (He loved it). We were both also given dessert on the house. Our meal was soooo good and felt the prices fair. It was a quiet Monday evening so we had all the attention to ourselves. I have already recommended this place to some friends and look forward to returning.
Quiet, good food, 1/2 price appetizers on Monday night. Very few guests so service was exemplary.
The food was great and the service was amazing. This was a great find on short notice. Will go back again when we are in town next time.
Lovely place. Tricky to find parking though. Food and service were amazing.
Nice find . Great wine selection . Good prices. Small , cute little place . Great for date night or a couple friends.
We had a fantastic dinner at Anima this evening. We started with one of their delicious charcuterie boards and could not get enough of the bacon jam and smoked olives. Such great value for the price! We moved on to the mains and were amazed by the flavours. We ended the evening with their special dessert wine pairing. So good! The food here is excellent. As is the service. We can't wait to come back!
The food and service was very good. Not a huge selection of wines by the glass, especially when it's called a wine bar. The restaurant is cozy and intimate and the staff knowledgeable on the menu and wines.
Great food, great service and great prices. They have an amazing wine selection and offer wine sampler flights. This is one of the better Italian restaurants in the neighbourhood. We will definitely be back.
We enjoyed a wonderful meal at Anima.
What appealed most was the menu, which had some unusual dishes . Compared to most Italian restaurants, pasta was not the dominant menu category, and that just made it more interesting for us.
We'll definitely be back! The smoked olives are wonderful...we would definitely buy them if they offered for retail sale. Food and wine were outstanding. We had the suggested pairing for the Sambuca prawns appetizer and shared a bottle of Tuscan Donatella Rosso for our mains. Branzino with mushroom risotto was perfection. Veal Marsala was delicious. Everything was just wonderful. Nice addition to the neighbourhood.
The food and drink were phenomenal. I really enjoyed the in-house made warm olives. Never had anything like them. Also the bacon relish - wow! The arancini were delicate and tender - a great different take on a classic. We also had a charcuteri board and the braised beef pasta. The fresh pasta and sauce were amazing. The only thing I would like to see are more choices of flights of wine. I had the red flight - but wasn't crazy about one of the choices. Other than that - I will definitely go back to try the rest of the menu!
