The atmosphere felt very much like a typical hotel lobby restaurant with banquet style seating. Nothing special or unique. They were out of my wine selection and did not offer anything comparable. At dinner I inquired about the halibut (featured on the menu) but they were out of that too (at 7:30 pm -not because it was late in the dinner hour). The beet salad was good (not great)-the bucatini was tasteless -truffle was highlighted in the dish but was non existent on the plate. The waiter offered a substitute (which should me more flavorful) and did take off the bucatini from the check. The 2nd pasta offering was better -but still not anything exceptional. The spiced rice dish with crab was extremely fishy tasting -and we left half of it as well. Overall a very disappointing experience -when it had been recommended so highly. Not Wirth the money we spent.

We had a wonderful dinner at Arlo Grey recently. The ambiance is so relaxing, like being in a treehouse. The food was shared and coursed out well with a ‘no rush’ vibe. We had a cocktail before and after our meal and enjoyed every part of the evening. A great meal with unusual tastes, but all approachable and delicious!

You can find great food all over Austin, but finding a place that makes great food and has great service is nearly impossible, but Arlo Grey does both exceptionally well. I l will definitely be going back soon.

I’m sure our experience was a one off for this restaurant but it was still a huge bummer. I’ve spent a lot of time scouring the internet to curate a list of all the great places to go in Austin for drinks & food. Arlo Grey came up on every search with every blogger, every culinary enthusiast & so a friend & I booked a resi to take our husbands for part 1 of their Father’s Day weekend. The table we were sat at had disgustingly dirty & stained upholstered bench to sit on that actually tilted back & forth which was uncomfortable & odd. Our service started out great. We ordered drinks & then quickly ordered all food as we had a concert to get to. We ordered the Wagyu steak, halibut, beets & sourdough. We got the beets & sourdough fairly quick. Food & drinks were delicious & presentation was great. Then we waited a half hour, then 45 min & the restaurant has a time limit of 1.5 hrs allotted per reservation. Well, we were coming up on that 1.5 mark & still no steak or fish. We asked our server & she promptly checked & came back saying the steak was delivered already to another table & never even mentioned the fish. We now were out of time to order something else so we left hungry & frustrated that our amazing dinner out turned into one of the husbands not eating at all bc his fish never came either. Once we told our server we would need to head out at this point to be able to make the concert on time, we never saw her again. She disappeared & seemingly avoided us & a manager came over with our bill. He offered his apologies & offered no compensation for our dinner being ruined. Handed him our card to pay & when he came back he said he only charged us for our drinks & only when we told him about our night out for the dads & all the planning & coordinating it took to even make this evening happen, he said “next time you come here, we will take care of you better.” The experience put a damper on the whole night. Left fumbling to feed hangry people in time to make the concer

Ordered the wagyu ribeye. After an hour of waiting we cancelled our order, paid our bill and bounced. Disappointing, as we really wanted to like the place. The manager said the reason was because too many people had ordered the steak but the restaurant was not even full. It may have been a one off bad night for their kitchen, but proceed with caution.

I’ve been to Arlo Gray prior and thought the dishes from that experience made it one of the best restaurants I have eaten at in Austin, while the service was subpar. The second time I was left highly disappointed the food was uninspired, overly crispy, more so in a stale way than too “crisped” and the $100+ sirloin was at least 40% fat and service again subpar. Both times front of house seemed annoyed by our presence. Seems perhaps hit and miss, I will try again but cautiously and not rave about it ahead of time. But, do get the sourdough and olives!
