The Astor Lounge never fails to impress, from the service to the artistry that goes into assembling the afternoon tea tower. The scones are to die for, as are the sweet and savoury items! Of all the high tea I've attended in Toronto, the Astor Lounge remains my favourite. I actually leave feeling full and absolutely spoiled by the staff there. Special thank you to Tristan for making my mom's birthday celebration even more memorable! Thank you Astor Lounge - will definitely be recommending and returning in the near future.

We arrived early and were seated. The room is behind the entrance and reception so it is noisy and busy. TV was on and distracting. Table setting very nice; comfortable seating. Spacious. Cutlery not suited to afternoon tea service. Tea selection process thoughtful and well done. Coffee was excellent. Service was attentive and friendly. Scones were not good … overbaked, very dry and crumbly. Shared clotted cream and jams awkward to share without proper sized cutlery. Teapots teetered on stands and were a bit challenging to pour from and replace. Sandwiches were prepared on stale bread especially the curried chicken. Requests for replacement sandwiches were not available as there were no extras (?!) ground ham was odd and unpleasant. Small sliver of Salmon on pumpernickel dry and not good. Egg and cucumber fillings well done. Abundance of pastries … raspberry tart, panna cotta were exceptional. Opera slice delicious. Madeleine very dry and tasteless. One pastry badly burned (charred black) .,. Possibly a koign amann or babka? Mentioned concerns to server; young pastry chef came to explain baking and carmelization process to a table of seasoned bakers. We understand sensitivity to criticism … just own it. Burned is burned. We know the difference. No apology. No offer to replace pastries. Continued serving them and we noted no one ate them. Server made us portrait lattes as an apology. Really unnecessary but very creative abs thoughtful. We were not looking for a free meal. We would not normally speak up but the $77 cost per person prompted us to make an exception. So, after over 40 years of sampling afternoon teas in the GTA and Niagara, we cannot come back. SO disappointing as having read the reviews, the menu and pictures I thought we had found our new place. It was not to be. Great potential but I cannot recommend this afternoon tea solely based on good service. 😞 It’s all about the food and ambiance which was lacking.

Tables were uncomfortable to sit at. After being served food, no one checked on us to refill water or provide additional hot water for tea. Disappointing place to have high tea due to noise from lobby, and uncomfortable seating arrangements. Food was ok, but a couple items were very dry and tough to eat.

Went for their signature afternoon tea. Service wasn't very good for such a high-end place. Never checking up on us. Felt like it was the server's first day. Barely ever refilling water nor tea. It was $200 for two people and the food all looked beautiful but the taste was all pretty unmemorable. Other tables seemed to get champagne but we never did and we were never offered it. Wanted to love it but just didn't :(

Lunar new year afternoon tea was delicious. The desserts were perfect. The flavors and textures were spot on. The flavors had Asian inspiration but the presentation was more valentine's. It comes with free glass of champagne. The sencha tea I had was medium grade..I could tell by the color and scent. Service was good. The plates were a bit too small but cutlery were dinner ware so was kinda weird to cut things. I suggest smaller tea spoon, butter knife etc or bigger plates. The platter has a modern rectangle shape and the sweet and savory were mixed. I suggest putting all sweets on one tier and savory on another. It was hard to reach and maybe have small serving tongues. We dropped a few things. Also, clear out used cutlery and plates so the table is neat and provide more cutlery. Our server was very nice and provided them but it should be more of a common practice. One minor note, the delicious SMOKED DUCK ON BRIOCHE was placed on top tier and the honey was dripping on the other stuff. Better to have it at the bottom tier. Overall, amazing food, service and worth the price. Even though, it's all small bites you will be full.

Our afternoon tea at the Astor Lounge was the highlight of our holiday season. We definitely benefitted from the impact of COVID as there were only 15 covers available per afternoon and so, from noon until 1 we were the only people there! Also, unlike other tea experiences, we were told from the start that our space was ours for the afternoon, as opposed to there being a 90 minute limit before the tables were turned. The Lounge itself is also a lovely space - cozy and luxurious but above all, comfortable - lots of table surface and the couch and chairs were spacious; we are never fond of being perched on tiny, precious chairs at tiny tables. The service we received from Phoebe and the team was exceptional - friendly, professional and welcoming. Manager Frank Salcedo was great prior to the tea when we were confirming our reservation, as well as day of when he checked on the Lounge guests several times. The food was prepared fresh as we watched and the chef should be proud of his work; the offerings were delicious and the presentation was beautiful. We’ve been fortunate to enjoy high teas across North America, throughout Europe and in Australia and New Zealand and we agree that this was absolutely top 3! Thanks again for everyone’s efforts in making this such a lovely afternoon!

The total per person after tax and tip is over $100. Now if I'm paying over $100 per person, I'm expecting something amazing. The lounge is next to the check in. So you constantly hear people chatting and there was even a baby crying at one point. We sat next to a window where you see the dirty street and homeless persons. The food was okay, but definitely not worth the monkey. Very disappointed in some dishes, like the foie gras was served on a stale piece of bread. The service was very good though and the tea selection is impressive. Still, I feel robbed of my money, very disappointed.

We made a reservation for high tea and it was a great experience. When we got there, we were greeted immediately and was seated right away. The servers are very attentive and was always there when you needed them. Our main server was very knowledgeable about the teas and I ended up learning quite a bit about them (and even a bit of history about the Astor family) which I thought was really cool. The food was really good. Two savoury items that stood out for me was the smoked trout crostini and the deviled eggs. The deviled egg was definitely a nice surprise. The flavour was so strong and I didn’t expect it to taste as good as it did. Two of my favourite sweet items were the raspberry tart and the cassis profiterole. The cassis filling in the profiterole was amazing! I think the use of cassis made it very unique. As for the tart, I personally just love tarts and they met my expectations lol. This was however on the pricier side but it does come with champagne or a non-alcoholic drink (so it’s definitely more worth it to get the champagne). On the downside, I was a bit surprised to find a strand of hair on my deviled egg. We waved our server over to let him know and he quickly replaced it with a new one right away and apologized for it. But other than that debacle, everything was great!

Their afternoon tea is fantastic, especially the variety of tea, and the burgers in the Chinese New Year Set. The Jasmine scones are awesome. However, the service is way lower than I expected. The waitress is nice and patient, but they never came to ask after we selected the tea. Every time we need water or something else, it took us thousands of times to get their attention, even there were only three tables with two servers. It took us 20 mins to call them and get our bill, nobody ever answered until a manager from the lobby saw our hands. I almost missed my flight. The afternoon tea set with a mocktail is around $100 after taxes.

I’ve been to most high teas in and around the GTA and this was by far the most expensive for no good reason. While the lobby of the hotel is beautiful, it’s far too cold and many patrons wore their coats through their meal. Not worth the price. Many other venues offer same services for about $60 less per couple.

Overall, the experience was enjoyable. I've been to high tea a few times now and I have noticed that the savoury canapés are always a bit underwhelming no matter where we go. The bread featured in the savoury canapés were a bit stale and dry. Not sure if that's by design but that was my impression. The savoury/sweet madeleine with the pickled fennel was a touch odd. I'm not sure how I felt about it but I wasn't a big fan. Other than that the sweets were pretty standard fare for high tea. I did enjoy the Midnight Blossom Tea. The Oolong tea we got was not bad, it tasted more like buttered popcorn than it did buttery shortbread. I enjoyed the mocktails. A great way to have something that's non-alcoholic. Service was great.

My friends and I meet for Afternoon Tea every Christmas and like to try different places. We were excited to try the Astor Lounge for the first time. The good: The food for Afternoon Tea was great. Scones were delicious. Probably one of the better places when it comes to the food. Beautiful presentation. Staff accommodated special food requests which was greatly appreciated. Room for improvement: Tea was ok, not very strong eventhough we steeped it for almost the entire time. The service itself was just ok, wouldn’t say top notch though. Small lounge was very cold so we were uncomfortable. When we were ready to leave we noticed that other tables had also complained about the cold and were given space heaters. Considering this is supposed to be a nice hotel, the washrooms were dirty. Don’t think they were cleaned during the entire 3 hours we were there. Overall the Afternoon Tea was good, but probably not worth the $100/person (after taxes and tip). We are glad we tried it, but we won’t be returning.

In terms of both presentation and taste, the afternoon tea set was great! A good variety of quality tea was available and the server explained about each type of tea thoroughly. The only let down was the state of the washrooms which were located in the basement- far from a five star hotel standard.

I can not say enough good things about our experience at the Astor Lounge for afternoon tea. I made the reservation for a birthday celebration and they put us in a nice and intimate corner that was beautifully decorated and was just perfect for the occassion. Our server was very attentive and friendly, she guided us through the tea performance and promptly brought out our tea of choice. I was very impressed with the variety of Sloane's Tea they had and her knowledge on Sloane made it even more interesting. The food was served in a spinning carousel shelf contraption and it was such an impressive display of sandwiches, pastries, small cakes, cupcakes and other desserts. I was equally as impressed with the savoury items as I was the sweet. I LOVED the scones they served with the jams and butter cream, it was just the right temperature and it was divine. As we didn't consume alcohol, an alternative mocktail was offered to us to supplement and it was also delightful! One of the guest had dietary restrictions and a severe allergy, again the staff members went above and beyond to accomodate and ensure that nothing contained/contaminated by said allergen. What really knocked this experience out of the ball park was the service we experienced. I would not hesitate to return again and cannot wait to do so!

Service charge included in the bill and the waitress didn’t mention it at all which I know it’s partly my mistake not checking the bill but at least I should get informed about it when charging a 18% tip automatically. I wouldn’t be so mad if the service is good. The waitress forgot about our scone and probably forgot about us entirely since she never come and check our status and didn’t add hot water to our tea until we asked for it. Moreover, the bathroom is quite awful: toilet is dirty, no hand soap and there’s dirty tissues on the floor. I would say some of the McDonald’s washrooms are cleaner than that and this is a “luxurious “ hotel lol Definitely wouldn’t go again. Terrible experience.
