Was very disappointing considering the expectations
Beyond our highest expectations!
Great experience from beginning to end. Service was great, somelier had great insight although seemed to simply recite his script. Food was beautiful, creative and delicious. What a treat! Each of the courses coming out were more and more delectable...some may find it pricey, but for this food journey, I would call it priceless!! My only wish would have been for Chef Lépine to come by our table so we could praise him in person. No way should he have lost Iron Chef Canada... his dishes were more creative... rematch? Bought his cookbook too, hoping I can surprise my friends with his gems!
This was by far the best culinary experience ever! The food was an explosion of flavor at each serving. The choice of paring wine was excellent! Marc Lepine is the best Chef!
We have done a few tasting menus and this one was good but not great for the price point. Something different in Ottawa but have had better food in the city at a better value.
Love this restaurant for so many reasons including the service, ambience and the food. You could not recreate the meal unless you were Marc Lepine and his staff. So many layers of flavours in each dish. You have to experience it to believe it.
Fantastic service, wine sommelier and food!
Would definitely recommend this restaurant. Valise is excellent for what they serve! 12 course menu!
Delicious, imaginative, and inspired dishes that are a joy to experience. A small place that feels like another world once you're inside. Very special.
Fantastic restaurant! Innovative! Delicious! An experience!
This was my 6th time at Atelier and as always, I was blown away by the amazing dishes. There are always so many flavours and the presentation of each dish is impeccable. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys trying new food.
We had an incredible dinner at Atelier. From beginning to end the service was spectacular and the food was outstanding. The wine pairing was worth it not just for the delicious wines but for the stories and information you got about each one. It truly is a blind tasting - you don’t know what it is until it arrives - but you get a nice menu at the end to remind you of what you’ve eaten. I ended up trying and liking a lot of things I don’t think I would’ve been brave enough to order in my own. Bonus - the chairs were super comfy which is awesome since you’re there for a long time.
This place never disappoints, food and service was excellent.
Beautiful food. Attentive service. Excellent knowledge of us (reasons for our booking), the menu and wines. Fabulous experience all round.
I really wanted to like this place. It has good reviews. Good pedigree. Interesting chef. Well published. Great kudos. And I hated it -- I frankly could have happily left after the second course, but I stayed to give it more of a chance. So I stayed all twelve courses. I should have left.
There is something about a restaurant as it sets up expectations. This one sets it up by reputation. The reviews from most people are nothing short of stellar. So I'm mystified as to why I had such a lousy experience -- and my wife concurred.
Just to be clear, I eat out - a lot. I eat at dives. I eat when I travel. And I eat at some pretty well regarded places for which I am grateful to have that opportunity.
The chef, Marc Lepine did a stage at Alinea, which given coverage of his reputation just made me want to like this place. I've eaten at Alinea in Chicago, and it was one of the most memorable meals I've ever had. It was truly art. Atelier is an artist either not present, or is resting on his laurels with a crowd fearful to object because it's just so much darn money.
Its our third Time at this restaurant (going once a year for our anniversairy) never been disapointed. They always check our food allergy, concerns (being pregnant) they adapt the menu for you. Wine pairing is unbelievable.
Food was delicious, staff is amazing great date night this year again. Cant Wait for next year!
For a specific occasion or if you really want to treat yourself this is the restaurant for you. I highly recommend it. One of our favorites
Loved our dinner! The sommelier was really great too :)
Wonderful place, lovely service, amazing food both for the eyes and the palate. It takes 3 1/2 hours! The only complaint is that the venison was too tough. The other 11 courses were perfect.
Atelier is an amazing food experience. Every course was an event. This is not a regular restaurant- it is a unique and creative food experience
I booked the restaurant after seeing it featured as one of the top 100 in Canada, which it lived up to. We where three for a little over 3 hours, and you might say - that long. While - 12 servings takes a while, and we went with wine pairing, which was great. We were not rushed, and the evening did not drag. All in all it was a great meal(s), with some very nice wine. This is definitely a place for a special evening or celebration, and for those willing to taste a variety of food served in many different ways. A great night.
Impressive meals presentation and wine pairing recommendations. We had a fabulous evening!
This was a dining experience unique to Ottawa. The service was oustanding (Alison) and I loved the way the Sommelier described the wines (Bernard). Not all the food was a hit with us but most of it was and we appreciated the creativity and the interesting flavour combinations.
Our second time there both times for special birthdays. A memorable night both times.
Very interesting concept. Really enjoyed my meals at atelier. I will definitely be back!
Overall good experience. Interesting dishes.
Few dishes were not actually prepared as finish product when served but waiter did apologize for this. Typically this would not matter but when paying north of 300$ expect more of the product.
Amazing dinner in a very elegant setting. Would recommend for special occasions.
Great experience!! I look forward to our next visit at Atelier!
Amazing food! The twelve coarse are just finominal. I can't imagine the prep that goes into this place. Always treated great here.
Exceptional service and exciting food.
My wife and I recently had an anniversary dinner at Atelier. The food was very good, but did not feel as good as our first visit a couple of years ago. A couple of the dishes underwhelmed. For example, one course was a basic salad comprised of a few cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, cubes of feta cheese and some basil with olive oil. I appreciate the attempt to highlight simple ingredients that are in season, but this was not a dish one would expect from Atelier. Other dishes definitely did shine. In particular, the dish with garlic scapes was spectacular.
This restaurant is still definitely the best at elevating ingredients but we felt that this time around the dishes lacked some of the more uncommon/exotic ingredients we've seen in the past (e.g. truffle, sea urchin, bone marrow..).
We sat on the second floor on the bench along the right hand side of the room. Although the room itself is very nice, we were too close to the people beside us and we could hear their conversations and vice versa. That was a bit annoying especially given the length of the dinner. If Atelier removes only one of the tables along the bench, it would be enough to give the privacy the diners expect.
The desserts were excellent, especially the cherries based one.
As a general remark, I appreciate the concept of the restaurant is a 12 course blind tasting menu, but I feel that each course is so small, and with many components, that it's sometimes hard to appreciate the flavours in the 2 bites that is each course. I think it would be a better experience with two or three less courses, but with each course being bigger.
While the food was very creative it felt that the protein dishes were skimped on in terms of amount. We have gone to some of the best tasting menues in the country and while portions are always expected to be small. Usually the protein dishes tend to be more filling. The indoor ambience also needs a face lift.
This was my 4th time dining here, but the first time in 6 years. They haven't lost their touch! Still an incredible creative gem and outstanding value. World class in terms of food, presentation, and service. I can scarcely believe it's in Ottawa. Always worth a visit!
Very creative menu, food was visually stimulating and tastes just as good
Went for our anniversary, everything was amazing! Great experience!
Took my dad and sister out for a special dinner, had an amazing experience. Food was absolutely superb. My waiter was fantastic, provided a great description of the blind 12-course tasting menu that we had with an optional wine pairing. Very accomadable with any food allergies or strong dislikes. 3 and a 1/2 hours of pure modern fine dining. Service couldn’t of been better, everyone was friendly, accommodating and we never needed to ask for a refill. You could taste just about every ingredient in each dish, all with a different creative touch/aspect to it. My favourite was the pork shoulder- absolutely fanominal! But not so much with the crab and horseradish soup, most likely just an acquired taste. Dessert was a lovely great way to end our meal. Definitely worth the price and would come back again when new dishes are created.
This was one of the most unique experiences I’ve had. The food was beautiful, I almost didn’t want to touch it. All the dishes tasted fantastic and had fresh and different ingredients. The waitress and sommelier were amazing and so knowledgeable. Definitely would recommend this place for people who love good food and wine and people who appreciate exceptional cuisine.
Never come here. It’s a huge gimmick. The food is horrible and they try to do things to make it seem desirable like put it in a terrarium or call it “shattered broccoli”. The staff are pretentious and embarrassing. Do not recommend.
As always, it did not disappoint. The food is pure theatre with modern design and wonderful tastes. Been here half a dozen or so times in last few years and have never been dissatisfied in any way. Class act..
