Atkins Park Restaurant & Bar
I used to live in the VA-Highlands area and had good memories of Atkins Park and wanted to return for a meal. First off, the food was very good, it was just the matter of getting the food that was an issue. When 25 minute passed after ordering and everyone who arrived after us was eating, we had to flag down a waiter to check on our meal. They seemed to be very limited on waitstaff. Later, when ordering dessert to go, it took another 30 minutes to get that as well. A very gracious manager comped us some coupons for the inconvenience. But the real insult was later that evening when we went to eat dessert and found raw apple pie in the go-box. Yes, uncooked dough and apples. Really?! Won’t be coming back.
Great meal with wonderful combination of ingredients. Good beer list too!
Great menu! Everything we ordered was incredible! The smoked wings were amazing!
The food was very good and creative brunch options. Coffee was decent as well. Service was alright. Definitely want to try more items on the brunch menu and would go back for dinner. I recommend the chicken and pancake sandwich
Got seated right away. Waitress waited on us quickly at first, then had to hunt her down for everything. Took food 45 minutes to come out. Brisket was gristly and gross. Never came to refill water. Long wait for check. Would never go again.
The food was good, but the noise level (and groups of drunk patrons) are a bit too much to handle. I will probably never go back here.
Enjoyed our meal and the ambiance at Atkins Park on a recent rainy Saturday night in Georgia. It was our first time to dine there and our server was very helpful in offering meal suggestions. Our burger, sweet potato fries and nachos were delicious and the portions were gracious. Parking was tough to find since the restaurant is in Virginia Highland.
We made our reservations through Open Table. When we arrived at Atkins Park we were told that “they didn’t have us on the list.” I showed the hostess my confirmation email and she still responded “you’re not on the list.” We were seated but not pleasantly. Not sure where the communication breakdown happened.
Family Tradition! Exactly what we wanted!
Birthday brunch for my husband was so lovely!
The servers are all going and in training it seems, which is fine but requires a bit of patience. They were not prompt and a couple of times needed reminding of items but it’s fine because our server was friendly.
The food is as good!
However she got really confused when it came time to pay. In the end it was all sorted but it took half an hour.
We had just received our credit cards back, and whom I assume was the manager approached us and asked us if we would be staying for dinner, and if not, we needed to vacate our table (?!!?).
Very disappointing way to end our brunch, especially since we were patient with the extremely slow service.
Pleasantly surprised by the short ribs and eggs for brunch. Very good. Surprised in part because I usually order something other than beef. They did a very good job on it. Special praise for these guys working on New Year’s Day. (That would have been a tough call for a lot of us.)
We tried this lovely place for the first time on New Years Eve. When we first arrived it was almost empty, but as the evening wore on it filled up fast! There were families there with small children and they have a great place for children to play before and after dinner. It was great to see children playing with toys, each other and not on iPads and iPhones!
I had their Fried Chicken, Mashed Potato's, Cream Gravy and Macaroni and Cheese. My husband had their special of Halibut. We also had the Hot Pimento Cheese dip. Everything was delicious except the Macaroni and Cheese. It was very bland in my opinion. In fact when I ordered dinner I had asked for the Macaroni and Cheese to be left off and be given the Green Beans instead. Oh Well! Did I mention that we had the most wonderful Apple Cobbler for Dessert? Normally we don't have dessert, but it was New Years Eve!
I gave 2 stars for service because the service was so SLOW! We were there 2 hours for dinner! I guess because it was a special night it was fine, otherwise it would have been a long time for dinner for us.
Will we go back? Sure! If we are in the area absolutely for that Fried Chicken!! Crust was to die for!
Just hope the service isn't so slow next time!
A great local restaurant with really good food and a nice atmosphere.
We live in the neighborhood, and Atkins is our go-to restaurant whether for lunch with the family, brunch with friends or dinner with guests. The menu has something for everybody, but quality isn't compromised. The atmosphere is inviting and the staff is very accommodating. We highly recommend the Atkins' experience.
This is our fourth year for Christmas dinner (2018). Enjoyed the food, the service, and the dining area. I have been to Atkins Park many times over the last 30 years; burgers at lunch, wings and beer after work, dinner in the dining room, company meeting up stairs.
Wait staff was awesome. Food was delicious. Everyone in our party was delighted.
If you're lucky, Annie will be your server. Brunch menu is awesome - going back!
Throughly enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner...from the time we arrived until receiving our prepared meal. Service was the best. My favorite part of the meal was the braised shoulder and roasted Turkey! I would suggest adding the mac n cheese to the menu next year.
Service not up to normal par for Atkins Park. Server first forgot to put in appetizer order...which we ordered at same time as our son's meal. He brought out his meal with ours. My husband cheeseburger came out with no cheese, then when sent back got brought out with wrong cheese. Never got checked on throughout entire meal...and restaurant only had 3 tables sat. Usually we have much better service.
We were there on a Wednesday, good table in the window and quiet.
The food was solid with great portions for the price. Barely saw a server my entire time though
Love this spot! Great food, no pretensions, perfect neighborhood spot. I was excited about a dish that was featured on the online menu, but not available when I went (salmon cake Benedict, I think?), however my alternate choice (not on the online menu) was an *excellent* version of the Louisville classic, a “Hot Brown.” Freshly roasted turkey, open faced with bacon and Mornay sauce. It was awesome! Service is always on point.
One of the oldest buildings, bar and restaurant in Atl.
Surprise with how delicious everything we order was. Had a hard time deciding what to order, cause they have a lot of allergy friendly options.
This is one of my go-to places in Atlanta. Despite its unassuming interior & tavern ambiance, the food is always surprisingly outstanding! I’ve been coming here for at least 15 years; bringing out-of-towners all the time & evenmy 89 year old Mother for lunch! Never disappointed.
Food and atmosphere were good. Our server was friendly but not very competent.
Very good price value in this neighborhood gem. All dishes are good.
We had dinner before heading to Eddie's Attic, and we will be back! Service was great and food was delicious. We each had something different and everyone was very pleased with their choices. Atmosphere was fun and a gorgeous old building.
No wait, excellent food, nice ambiance!
Reasonable neighborhood restaurant. More interesting menu than most.
Our first time here, and would recommend this to anyone. BTW the shimp and grits were our favorite dish this visit.
Wait staff totally unprepared and evidently not trained.
Disappointed the place looks shabby. No one greeted us at the door, customers had to tell us we could sit. A guy brought us menus and 3 were filthy with food on them and one was the wrong menu. This was embarrassing. The selection was not the best so to be safe we all had friend chicken. No seasoning! Also the place needs to be cleaned crumbles of food on chairs, in between cushion and seat, sticky table. Totally ruined our Mom Day celebration. It was not noisy. The food was good not great! Will not be going again!!!!!
We Had a great Mother's Day brunch here. We loved being surrounded by the history and the great food. We will definitely come back again!
We came here for Mother’s Day, so it was pretty busy. But since we made a reservation on OpenTable, we were seated almost immediately. The dining area is a little small, so it can get loud when it’s full, but it was a great experience. The food was delicious and I would highly recommend Atkins Park Tavern.
Food and drinks were great. Manager came by to ensure the food was what we were expecting. First time going and will return.
The place was clean and my waitress was very nice. I’m a margarita lover and was disappointed with the margarita there. Other than that I think the place was nice. Also their brunch menu is different in a good way.
Long conversation and great food made for a great catch-up dinner with a very good friend from out of town. A couple times a year this is the go-to place where you are not rushed. Attentive and considerate servers each time. Try the many appetizers. And you can't go wrong with the excellent fried chicken. The trout is perfectly done and hope it will always be on the menu.
Disappointing. Waited 15 minutes for our server - we were told the person for our station didn't show up for work. Why seat us in this section if no one showed up and their were no less than 3 other servers walking around and no customers. Hostess was busy on her phone so she was no help.
Don't think I'll go again.
