Bao Bei is a unique restaurant in Chinatown that cultivates casual intimate dining experiences by providing small plates meant to be shared amongst a group of friends and family. Influences are taken from Taiwan and Shanghai but we are also inspired by a range of global flavours that form a more modern approach to Chinese cooking. We also love a good stiff cocktail and a nice glass of gamay to go with our food so we’ve taken great care to create distinctive libations and to curate a nice little list of wines for you.

We provide a customized menu of Bao Bei classics for $65, or classics, special dishes and dessert for $88 meant to be shared and passed around in true family style. The feast is curated for you and your group with allergies or dietary restrictions taken into consideration and we are happy to take requests and direction to make your meal memorable. Wonderful food, not your usual Chinese so go with an open mind and an adventurous palate. Service brilliant, couldn’t fault it, highly recommend a visit. Thanks Bao Bei for a lovely experience.

Excellent food. We liked everything we ordered with the help of our waitress. They make an unusual and very tasty Margarita. We could resist ordering a second. The meal was expensive for 2 of us, bait a real treat. Great place to go with 4-6 people

Food was great. It would have been nice if the plates were paced slower - we were celebrating my birthday and we’re done eating in about 45 minutes. I find this has unfortunately become quite common in Vancouver post COVID.

Party of two promptly seated upon arrival. It's a small bistro so reservations are a must. Food was good; server was good; kitchen was very slow. Food came out as it was cooked.. so table 3 got something then table 9 got something, then we got something, ect ect.. Our dinner lasted for 80 minutes for 1 app, 2 entrees and a side order of veggies. Food & drink + tip was $145.

Excellent location for the restaurant to put you in the mood (Vancouver China Town). The menu online is not updated and that was a bit disappointing as we had a plan of what we were to eat. They have a daily special in which case was halibut - it was on the tart side but I did enjoy the authentic bone in fish. The dumplings were delicious served with simple vinegar + ginger. Smoked bone marrow was a pleasant surprise. And King pea tips were a great touch especially if you never had it before. Overall a great experience and brings back memories of the old China town with a twist and hopefully a reflection of the direction Chinatown is heading with entrepreneurs that caters to the new generation.

Seated on time, staff very gracious, menu description was on point. Drinks came right away, food rolled out shortly after, everything delicious from crispy tofu, dumplings, pea tips steak and pork baos. Coconut banana ice cream was a fine finish. Lovely atmosphere. Food delivery could have been a touch slower to ease the pace of dining but thats a small quibble. We had an excellent evening and left satisfied.

It was our first time at Bao Bei, and apart from knowing that it's one of those "to share" places with Asian food with a twist we did not know what to order, so just let our waiter be our guide and compose the chef's menu for us. We absolutely wanted to try the sticky rice cake and the king pea tips so these were included. We got 3 different appetisers, a mixture of dumplings and four more dishes. Every single one of them was very nicely presented and totally delicious. Hard to pick a favorite, but I loved the sticky rice cake, the bean curd skins and the mantou buns. The price is a little steep, but (in spite of what we had read in other reviews) we sure did not leave hungry!

I can’t stress enough how amazing this place is. The food completely blew us away. I don’t order fried rice anywhere but this was amazing! I was shocked. The bao buns were outstanding and the tofu was perfection with that sauce. We spent 5 days in Vancouver and ate at some very highly rated places and this was our favorite restaurant.

Our party of 4 ordered the chef’s choice where we let them choose what to serve us. The variety was great - but the food came so quickly- two or three dishes at a time and in such fast succession, it was difficult to enjoy it all. Great quality, wonderful prep- just needed to slow down a beat or two. We get that they had to turn the table and it felt like it. Would go again for sure and order differently.

We were a table of 5 and all participated in the Chef’s creation for $60pp with eager anticipation. Our server was knowledgeable, courteous and attentive. Ambience was on the louder side for quiet conversations but energetic. The drinks were superb. Unfortunately, although the flavors of the dishes overall were decent, the value for what we paid was lacking. The best dish we had was crispy tofu snack. Their wagyu skirt steak dish was definitely not the wagyu we were used to: bland, tough and chewy. The laksa chicken wings (listed for $19 a la carte) had 9 wings which were a dismally small number for 5 ppl. Overall we agreed that we definitely did not get $300 worth of food in our family style meal. That would have worked out to $30/dish, which it did not. Based on the a la carte menu, we ended up getting about $180 worth. A couple of us may come back but only for the a la carte menu, never again for the family style chef’s creation.

As always, the food and service here was impeccable. I love the space, the vibe. My favorite thing, surprisingly, was the bok choy! I have been here three times and am always impressed. A perfect spot if you want to treat yourself.

Second time I’ve been. First was a big group and they sorted us out nicely which I’m sure wasn’t easy. Second time was three of us and they made it a really nice experience. The food was excellent. Chef’s choice menu all the way.
