Our server was excellent and the wine selection, while expensive, was good. As a wine bar, the number of wines by the glass was not as robust as expected, but the offerings were okay. The chick pea fries were fantastic! Our kale salad was excellent. Given that we are in tomato season, we were surprised the tomato salad had cherry tomatoes, instead of beefsteak. We were disappointed in the pizza, which had a thick and doughy crust. Unfortunately the pasta rigatoni was undercooked, but the sauce was good. The fish special was good. Overall, a 3, but I don't think we would rush to go back.
Bar Centrale, the higher-end, street level resto at the Summerhill Terroni always delivers for us and it did once again on the last long weekend of summer. More good food and wine, and very good service. Terroni has the amazing rooftop patio, but we find the food and service to be better and more consistent at Bar Centrale. It has an excellent all-Italian wine list as well. It's a step below top restaurants in the city, but it's a favorite whenever we want a relaxed vibe with very good food, wine, and service.
We have been to Terroni several times and never knew this place existed. It was exceptional! Our servers recommendations were spot on and we enjoy every bite! Hats off to the Branzino chef, and 4 of us ordered it and it was delish!
I showed up for the reservation with my first and they weren't open. We waited 15 minutes outside and then we gave up. I love the place but was disappointed they didn't open
Fab food, one had risotto , one pasta and I had the fish, all was delicious. I just returned from Sicily and it was as close as you can get to the atmosphere in Italy! And the service was fabulous...thx!
Always a good spot for a work chat, catchup with a firmed, or morning reflection.
I go here regularly and It is consistently good food and good service.
Good food, really good patio.
The service was abysmal.
After we placed our food order nothing came for one full hour.
They then brought out our main course and had forgotten the appetizers we had ordered.
Outstanding food, best in the city. Service just as good.
I love the look and feel of the bar/restaurant. Great ambiance and service. Food was delicious!
Always a delicious meal! Our server was great!
Great service, good pasta and salad options at reasonable prices. Not as noisy as Terroni upstairs and booths are cosy and comfortable.
Very disappointed. Had a wonderful evening Until the bill came. Was charged for a different wine than the one ordered and told by the manager that the waitress had pointed on the menu to the wine- not so. Manager said we drank it so should pay for it. Was extremely rude. Made us wait 15 minute for adjusted bill.
They have a new prix fixe Sunday menu. No choices. $30. All great tho: gnocchi, salad, roast chicken, fingerling potatoes, rapini, served family style. Quiet Sunday evening. Nice!
I picked this restaurant just because for the convenience of where all diners needed to go after the breakfast. The location is good but the restaurant is too not so comfortable mainly due to the size and the seat arrangement. I was quite surprised that the coffee took so long to come, even all the food were on the table and the coffee was still not ready, my second order of the coffee also took long time to come. The breakfast dish could be better or maybe the Chef didn't work that early? I do like their croissant and definitely will stop by for pastries at the address Server gave me that is close to Yonge & King.
The food was fantastic! We absolutely loved the pandolci. The scrambled eggs and truffle dish could have used more toast
Bar Centrale is one of our favourite restaurants. It’s our “go to” place ... LOVE the staff ... they’re like family to my husband and I. Always great food ... always good fun ... always GREAT music!
My experience at this restaurant was beyond what anyone could wish for. From the moment we walked in, we were actually welcomed by one of the chefs, Adriano. His pleasant demeanor and welcoming attitude instantly made us feel more comfortable; considering we had never been there... and we chose this on a whim.
They sat us down, allowing us to choose our seat (as it was busy, but not overly crowded).
The main waitress and the bar staff that assisted with bringing the food, were extremely courteous and well versed in the food menu along with wine pairing! They honestly took the anxiety and stress of ordering from an unfamiliar menu, right away.
(FUN FACT: the special of he day, is rarely/ never repeated)
We had the chickpea fries with parmigiana as our appetizer - too die for!!( SIDE BAR: can be a tad salty, but still so amazing). For the main course We ordered the duck special of the day, paired with a glass of their white Giulian, and the Bolognese with a not so “full tasting” glass of red. The recommendation was spot on! Their explanation of the wine pairing with the food options was not overwhelming at all... Actually, it made the experience fun and super easy to decide.
(FUN FACT: all the wine served in this venue can only be bought there, by the case)
Finally dessert! The homemade gelato paired with an almond tart-drool. If you are an almond fan, this is definitely something you should order. The tart had a slight hint of zesty lemon, while the gelato, was not too sweet at all! Perfect match
This restaurant is definitely under rated and over looked. It’s quaint/modern style of decor, with hints of old school wood and exposed brick make this space, a place to really enjoy yourself and the company you are with.
I am just an ordinary person. They made me feel like royalty. The genuine care that is put into the food along with the service, is what every restaurant should strive for!
Bar Centrale literally “raised the bar” to new height!
One of my favourite places to eat!!!
Love this restaurant b staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Would go back anytime
Was fine. Felt rushed due to people waiting
Food quality always reluably good.
Normally great dining experience was marred by slow kitchen this time. Over an hour wait after our appertizers for mains.
Server and sommelier were very knowledgeable about wines.
Sea bass was excellent, pasta dishes were tasty. The service was excellent.
Excellent service and food delicious, authentic and perfect temp
When it arrived at the table. Good wine selection and the recommendation was spot on. I dine at Bar Centrale every
4-6 weeks and the food /service is consistently very very good.
Bar Centrale is one of my favourite places. The food is authentic Italian prepared with quality ingredients.
My niece and her new partner were in from out of town and we had lunch there. The calamari and risotto were BIG hits. Really exceptional.
I often meet friends there for breakfast, lunch and dinner....and I often bump into friends there. The decor is great, the terrace is great, the food is great and very well priced.
Lovely warm day to sit on pleasant patio. Really excellent pasta
Extremely salty food!! Sent salad back because it was inedible, brought one back just as salty! Not impressed...
Dinner was delicious. Hip cool relaxed vibe. Very comfortable. Perfect for a date on a rainy day.
Great service with relaxed ambiance and very nice wine list. We appreciated our server's ability to accommodate various food allergies.
A great spot for drinks, snacks or dinner. Cocktail list is creative and tasty. Food is delicious. Service is friendly and attentive. Would definitely recommend.
All our food came at once - rather than in courses - so things got cold pretty quickly. Otherwise the food was tasty, and the service was prompt.
Bar Centrale...how could I pick between this delightful diner and it's bigger half Terroni that resides above it? Arguably, I have written more review about Terroni which is truly one of my go-to standard, never disappointing, meets all my cravings, any time of any day and/or night- than any other restaurant I've been asked to review. So, without having to pick between my favorites, I'll dive right into what makes Centrale such a special place to land when you want an intimate experience, quick but excellent service- and the culinary engine that drives this gastro-block at Prince and Yonge. For one, you don't have to walk up any stairs...which is a bonus if you're just not feeling up to it, or can use all the time you have to grab a quick bite. But far more important, is the cozy, smaller scale of the place, that is welcoming like a diner- not overwhelmingly noisy, no crowds or exciting buzz, just easy vibes...and direct sunlight if you plant yourself in front of one of the windows-which I did on the only sunny day last week. The menu is also concise and yet full of options. It's easy to decide when not faced with 14 delicious pasta or pizza options...the few things that are on the menu are the best hits, and you won't feel like you're missing out if you don't pick what you don't pick. Service is fast and personal. Food is divine. And so is the coffee....which is why I ended up buying a 2 1/2 pound bag right there and then. Awesome place to kick off the weekend (I was there for Friday lunch). And it may just have to be the favorite I pick this time around....
Great food great location
Fun and great patio
Service is just average
Nice, quaint little restaurant
Fun, casual place, with Toronto roots. Friendly staff.
It was hard to get a server or bartender's attention. Too bad. Nice space.
Everything was tasty. My risotto was a little under cooked but still flavourful. Service was attentive and our server made great recommendations
Bar Centrale has managed to maintain their standards - still a very good Italian trattoria. We find the food and service more consistent than Terroni.
I love the room and the energy go the restaurant. It's my favourite place to meet for breakfast.
