Enjoy an intimate dining experience at Bar Isabel -- a cozy restaurant where creative Spanish-inspired small plate dishes are combined with craft beers and cocktails. The restaurant's elegant interior boasts an intriguing blend of soft lighting, curved walls and a beautiful mosaic tile floor.
Managed under the guidance of Chef Grant Van Gameren, Bar Isabel's menu includes a diverse mix of tapas, cheese, seafood dishes and entrees. Diners rave about the grilled octopus, the cheese platter and the oysters. Treat yourself to some Andalusia cured tuna, tossed with almonds and citrus. For dessert, the Basque cake and sherry cream is a must-try. Bar Isabel is open up until midnight through most of the week. The restaurant extends its closing time to 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, making it a good pick for late night dining.
Came to celebrate a family birthday and it was the perfect occasion. Food was excellent and reliable, this was the second time I've been here... we ordered the octopus (full size... there were 5 of us), 2 orders of bone marrow (I have recurring dreams about it... SO GOOD), 2 orders of the bocquerones, oysters (no complaints). server recommended the raw tuna and veal sweetbread and my parents loved the mix of flavours. best dessert option is obvs the cake... warm, not too sweet, light enough, small but shareable.... ideal for a winter meal! always impeccable service.
Excellent food and service - the best restaurant in Toronto!
Loud but fun atmosphere
We asked for recommendations.. and they came through with an amazing tasting menu. Fantastic place to celebrate. Wait staff did a fantastic job making sure we had what we needed. 15/10 GO HERE.
Loved Bar Isabel. Everything we ordered was amazing, much better than we expected. Highly recommend.
Consistently great food and service. I always choose it for special occasions.
Absolutely amazing food. Must-gets are the Basque cake for dessert, the octopus, and these mushrooms topped with celery roots.
Interesting venue. Cozy and intimate space. Vibrant room and Cool lighting Overhyped for what is essentially Spanish tapas. Good wines and friendly staff. Overpriced.
Great food, great service by super-knowledgeable staff. Love it!
A little noisy, but the outstanding service and great food are entirely worth it. We especially love the shrimp in garlic butter (dip your patatas bravas in the butter!) and the basque cake for dessert.
Absolutely outstanding. Fresh, impeccably executed, every plate was perfect from the salad to the beef tongue, even on a late 'slow' night. Can't wait to go back.
We absolutely love Bar Isabel, we've visited atleast 10 times and every time is fantastic ! We have 2 vegans in our group and they are able to eat just as much as the non vegans. The food is always delicious, the highly quality, it's the perfect place to eat. We will be back soon !
We had the most brilliant experience at Bar Isabel from service to food. Top Notch! And the Basque cake!!!!!!!!!!!
I was at Bar Isabel Friday Jan 4th. I went with my wife and another couple. I love the character of the room. I've been to tapas restos before but never here so we opted to have the waiter select food for us. The food was really, really good. Scallops with apple, spicy pork jowls, cheese plate, Basque cake, and so much more. They were all good and interesting.
On the service side, I was not too impressed with our waiter. He was a bit "too cool for school". I told him we'd like to take him up on his offer to select for us but there were a few items we wanted to avoid. His repsonse was, "Ok. So nothing fun." I let it go because he wasn't our only server and the others were great. I also think he took advantage of the situation a bit because he brought out way too much food and that ended up costing a lot. We probably should have been more clear that he should check with us midway to see how much more we might want. Again, I've been to tapas places before and I've almost always had the server select for us. They always check in at some point to see how we're doing. My mistake.
So for four of us, with tax and tip, it ended up costing $590. In case you're wondering, there were 2 glasses of wine and 1 mixed drink ordered.
Would I go back ? Absolutely. The food was fantastic. However, we probably could have done with 60% of the food that they brought so I'd be more clear about making sure we insert a checkpoint in the evening.
Wonderful selection of food and wine. Wait staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Great value for money. Take you appetite.
Every dish was delicious with fresh ingredients. Excellent service. Can accommodate dietary restrictions
I want to go there once a month. Is so good.
The staff at Bar Isabel were attentive but not disruptive. They gauged that we were in a hurry and offered plenty of information about each dish. We particularly enjoyed the croquettas, and the grilled octopus is a must, but you can’t go wrong with any of their tapas dishes.
Second time dining here and I am going to keep coming back. Food was delicious, service was amazing. Definitely would recommend to others.
Service, ambience and food are all really lovely, however, the one thing I have thought, now each time I have eaten at bar Isabel is that desserts are pretty meh. It's a minor criticism. The kitchen is simply paying less attention to dessert than to all the rest of the delicious things they produce. So it always feels like an afterthought. That is all. When everything else is so super yummy, dessert should be that way too!
Food was great, our server basically didn’t know we existed and was too preoccupied with other tables to ever check in on us.
My partner's and I #1 restaurant in Toronto - and we are avid foodies who have been to all of toronto's top 50 places to eat. The veal sweetbreads with raw tuna dish is a must -- its wacky, beautiful and ansolutely delicous. Everything else there we tried and always been blown away. Their legendary basque cake with seared foi gras is the best meal we have had in our lifetime -- it is a dessert that will make any and all dessert experiences feel mediocre. Do not skip that. And do try it with the seared foi -- it sounds super rich, which it is, but you will be waking up craving that thing for a week after you leave.
Great food and service. Very busy, but that speaks to the great food. The octopus and pea leaves ate to die for. Decent sized portions. My second visit and I will definitely be back.
Excellent tapas and wine. The service was incredible. Tapas were spaced out well and all the servers seem to chip in and help each other out.
Amazing food! Everything was exceptional!
Way too noisy. No assistance with helping us with our coats. The food was ok but not WOW.
Food and service was great! The food took a bit longer to come out than the other times I have dined here but overall a great experience
I am not a foodie, so much of the cuisine was above me, but the staff were absolutely GREAT in explaining the dishes, options, preparation, etc. To me, they were the best part of this experience.
My only criticisms would be high ambient noise (it was a Saturday night) and closeness of other tables.
Great food. Would highly recommend.
Excellent for Tapas experience.
If you can only read English like me the menu is defiantly going to intimidate you. The food is so diverse and unique that we had no clue what to get. Our server was great, we tried his recommendation for wine which was perfect and then agreed with him when he offered us the $50 tasting menu. Excellent for me and my girlfriend who have no idea what any of it is. I would defiantly go back.
Bar Isabel never disappoints! My favourite restaurant in Toronto hands down. Food is amazing, atmosphere and service is always exceptional.
Easily the gold standard for dining in Ontario; the atmosphere, the service, but most of all the food! Gosh dang!
Food was incredible. Pricey but worth it for a special occasion. Love this place.
Food and service very good. Avoid dulce de leche desert- nothing to do with the real one. We were rushed out, coats arrived even before we paid the bill. Go if you are hungry but do not need to talk to your companion(s) as the level of noise is extremely high (and visibility low).
Amazing experience. A unique place offering some very special menu items. You have to be open minded and willing to try new things in order to truly get the best out of this menu. Razor clams were amazing, patatas bravas so delicious, the veal bread with the raw tuna was unbelievable and the dessert is a MUST! Loved the cocktails and unique beer options. One of our top favourite restaurants. Looking forward to coming back!
Great atmosphere, food and service. Would definitely return.
Our server was lovely and their food is so delicious. Definitely go for the seafood.
The host was welcoming and all the servers were pleasant and knowledgeable. We enjoyed all the food. It was delicious. The timing of the different dishes was good so we did not get too much at once. It was a little noisy but we’re a little old so it probably didn’t bother most of the crowed. A thoroughly enjoyable experience.
Overall - everything was good, but didn’t quite meet my expectations. We arrived just after 9 on a Tuesday, and the restaurant was very loud and remained busy until we left. We had a very good wine and a number of different tapas (charcuterie, bread, croquettes, octopus, patatas bravas, mushrooms, chorizo). The croquettes (a daily special) and the mixed cheese and meat plate with bread were my favourites, and the rest of the dishes were good but not quite great. We were helped by a number of different servers, which can be a little confusing - one server (the manager/owner?) was a lot more helpful than our main server. The timing of bringing the various plates out was good. They provided us free small dessert as it was my birthday, which was a nice touch!
Amazing - had a tasting menu!
