Enjoy an intimate dining experience at Bar Isabel -- a cozy restaurant where creative Spanish-inspired small plate dishes are combined with craft beers and cocktails. The restaurant's elegant interior boasts an intriguing blend of soft lighting, curved walls and a beautiful mosaic tile floor.
Managed under the guidance of Chef Grant Van Gameren, Bar Isabel's menu includes a diverse mix of tapas, cheese, seafood dishes and entrees. Diners rave about the grilled octopus, the cheese platter and the oysters. Treat yourself to some Andalusia cured tuna, tossed with almonds and citrus. For dessert, the Basque cake and sherry cream is a must-try. Bar Isabel is open up until midnight through most of the week. The restaurant extends its closing time to 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, making it a good pick for late night dining.
Eclectic, fun place for tapas. Mainly meat dishes, not many vegetarian options. Designed for family style eating/sharing so great for friends! Energetic vibe, not quiet. Great food.
The place was very noisy. The food was okay and not good for the price. Also, the service was below average. I ordered the drink as I got my table. Despite reminding twice, I got my drink after almost an hours wait. Quite disappointed.
I go out to eat often. Bar Isabel feels unlike most of the good restaurants in Toronto. It has character, both the place and the food. The food is amazing yet is not a fancy place. It has a going out vibe, music is a bit louder. Its the perfect place for a dinner dine out - not a boring quiet restaurant. One of the best restaurants in Toronto thus far
The best! Loved the variety and the eclectic food. Enjoyed having the waiter select for us.
Each time we go, the new items on the menu are better than before....how do they do that?
Great food, excellent service! It's our neighbourhood spot!
Food was well done + staff was attentive but restaurant was quite dark and rather loud. FOOD + SERVICE are worth another visit!
Food was great! The service was good, food came out quickly and was delicious.
Excellent Spanish cuisine that made me feel like I was in Barcelona all over again!
This was the best dining experience I've had in the city of Toronto. The cuisine was was very eclectic and exciting. This kind of cuisine would be very difficult to attempt at home. The ingredients are very fresh and well sourced. The food is both simple and complex.
I appreciate how there are both very prime cuts of meat, and very common cuts, such as beef tongue, that are remarkably prepared.
The portions are very generous for two people sharing one tapas plate. It is great value for money and there is no pressure from the staff to sell you on higher priced items.
The staff is very attentive and helpful. I can't wait to come back.
Service was amazing.. the food was good but not memorable. Highlight was the basque cake.
Wow recommended by a friend and glad we decided on Bar Isabel. We don’t go out often but when we do we want to experience great food and service. We definitely got both. Service was top notch! Friendly, helpful and attentive! I wish I remembered her name! All staff were great from the host to our server! The food was also very delicious. Tapas style but menu is very flexible when it come to size...you can always do half orders if u want to try more items. We ordered 6 (1 of the half order) items plus the basque cake. We were very full! Would def go again! Thanks for a great experience!
My fiancee and I came in on January 30th to celebrate my birthday and were absolutely blown away by every aspect of our visit! The drinks, food, service, ambiance and full experience was truly amazing. The staff went above and beyond and the way you operate with team service is shown with such success. I am awful with names but a HUGE thank you to Adam in the kitchen, our female server (blonde with glasses) and one of the other staff (tall male with a bit of an accent). We cannot wait to come back again and again :)
We took a friend out for dinner as she is moving back to France and after 2 years in Toronto, still has not have the chance to visit Bar Isabel. We had such a lovely dinner. We tried so many different tapas and everything we had was so delicious and unique. She said it was the best restaurant she had been to in Toronto. My husband and I had been years ago and it was so nice to go again enjoy amazing food, wine and company. Highly recommend to go at least once if never been.
Delicious food; razor clams awesome and rarely seen in Toronto. Grilled octopus good but not as great as I remembered. European atmosphere, wonderful. When the place is packed, the noise is deafening at times. Service is efficient but a little snooty. The aloofness is apparently contagious as even the bus boys seem to have it.
My partner and I decided to go to Isabel to kick start our week end getaway in Toronto and it did not disapoint!!! We let our wonderful server guide us for the food and wine choices and as foodies our expectations were meet :) the place and decor is on point, vintagy and cozy.
After hearing lots of great things about Bar Isabel I was finally able to try it and it was incredible. The service from our waiter was amazing, as he had amazing recommendations for the tasting menu as well as drinks throughout the night. Went the extra mile to really make it an amazing night. The food was the star, absolutely everything we tried was perfectly cooked and plated. I would say the prices were fairly reasonable for this top tier restaurant.
Came to celebrate a family birthday and it was the perfect occasion. Food was excellent and reliable, this was the second time I've been here... we ordered the octopus (full size... there were 5 of us), 2 orders of bone marrow (I have recurring dreams about it... SO GOOD), 2 orders of the bocquerones, oysters (no complaints). server recommended the raw tuna and veal sweetbread and my parents loved the mix of flavours. best dessert option is obvs the cake... warm, not too sweet, light enough, small but shareable.... ideal for a winter meal! always impeccable service.
Excellent food and service - the best restaurant in Toronto!
Loud but fun atmosphere
We asked for recommendations.. and they came through with an amazing tasting menu. Fantastic place to celebrate. Wait staff did a fantastic job making sure we had what we needed. 15/10 GO HERE.
Great spot for drinks, food and good times. Very pleasant and attentive staff. Never had a disappointing visit.
Also wine list is on point!
Loved Bar Isabel. Everything we ordered was amazing, much better than we expected. Highly recommend.
Consistently great food and service. I always choose it for special occasions.
Absolutely amazing food. Must-gets are the Basque cake for dessert, the octopus, and these mushrooms topped with celery roots.
Interesting venue. Cozy and intimate space. Vibrant room and Cool lighting Overhyped for what is essentially Spanish tapas. Good wines and friendly staff. Overpriced.
Great food, great service by super-knowledgeable staff. Love it!
A little noisy, but the outstanding service and great food are entirely worth it. We especially love the shrimp in garlic butter (dip your patatas bravas in the butter!) and the basque cake for dessert.
Absolutely outstanding. Fresh, impeccably executed, every plate was perfect from the salad to the beef tongue, even on a late 'slow' night. Can't wait to go back.
We absolutely love Bar Isabel, we've visited atleast 10 times and every time is fantastic ! We have 2 vegans in our group and they are able to eat just as much as the non vegans. The food is always delicious, the highly quality, it's the perfect place to eat. We will be back soon !
We had the most brilliant experience at Bar Isabel from service to food. Top Notch! And the Basque cake!!!!!!!!!!!
I was at Bar Isabel Friday Jan 4th. I went with my wife and another couple. I love the character of the room. I've been to tapas restos before but never here so we opted to have the waiter select food for us. The food was really, really good. Scallops with apple, spicy pork jowls, cheese plate, Basque cake, and so much more. They were all good and interesting.
On the service side, I was not too impressed with our waiter. He was a bit "too cool for school". I told him we'd like to take him up on his offer to select for us but there were a few items we wanted to avoid. His repsonse was, "Ok. So nothing fun." I let it go because he wasn't our only server and the others were great. I also think he took advantage of the situation a bit because he brought out way too much food and that ended up costing a lot. We probably should have been more clear that he should check with us midway to see how much more we might want. Again, I've been to tapas places before and I've almost always had the server select for us. They always check in at some point to see how we're doing. My mistake.
So for four of us, with tax and tip, it ended up costing $590. In case you're wondering, there were 2 glasses of wine and 1 mixed drink ordered.
Would I go back ? Absolutely. The food was fantastic. However, we probably could have done with 60% of the food that they brought so I'd be more clear about making sure we insert a checkpoint in the evening.
Wonderful selection of food and wine. Wait staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Great value for money. Take you appetite.
Every dish was delicious with fresh ingredients. Excellent service. Can accommodate dietary restrictions
I want to go there once a month. Is so good.
The staff at Bar Isabel were attentive but not disruptive. They gauged that we were in a hurry and offered plenty of information about each dish. We particularly enjoyed the croquettas, and the grilled octopus is a must, but you can’t go wrong with any of their tapas dishes.
Second time dining here and I am going to keep coming back. Food was delicious, service was amazing. Definitely would recommend to others.
Service, ambience and food are all really lovely, however, the one thing I have thought, now each time I have eaten at bar Isabel is that desserts are pretty meh. It's a minor criticism. The kitchen is simply paying less attention to dessert than to all the rest of the delicious things they produce. So it always feels like an afterthought. That is all. When everything else is so super yummy, dessert should be that way too!
Food was great, our server basically didn’t know we existed and was too preoccupied with other tables to ever check in on us.
