Bar Laurel continues to be outstanding! Our waiter was so formidable (sorry, I didn't catch your name!) and gave us a little candle with our cheesecake in honour of my friend's birthday. Cocktails on point, as always, and you must try the cod fritters!
Food, drinks, service.. all incredibly good!!
Need to like small plates but I love all the drinks and the ability to share. Would recommend!
Good food, good ambience. Attentive staff. Great for a date night or casual dinner with friends.
Great food, wine and ambiance. As a gluten free diner I would have appreciated gluten free bread and a gluten free fryer since the lack of both meant a significant part of the menu was not suitable for me.
Very good food, had our server choose the plate to bring for our party of 6 and it was very good.
Would go again for sure
Fantastic, innovative food and great ambiance!! Highly recommend this restaurant!
My first time here and I loved it! Every dish was a hit. Excited to come again soon.
First time at Bar Laurel... will not be our last.
We tried about 9 or 10 dishes each was amazing!
The cocktails were ‘old school’ great!... bar tender gave me the recipe for the Black Vesper which is a MUST HAVE
Bar Laurel is a great little restaurant, clearly focused on getting as close to real Spanish Tapas as they can. The service was attentive and solid, friendly - with the waiter accommodating a special request to grill the octopus. Food was very good - although the wine pours were on the skimpy side. My only "complaint". Slick and cool interior.
Sat at the bar for dinner. Everyone was super friendly and the food and drink were excellent. Every single dish we ordered was a hit. Wish I could go more often.
We went to bar laurel a couple of years ago for our anniversary and loved the experience so we wanted to return this year, again to celebrate our anniversary.
On the open Table reservation it asked if it was a special occasion to which I replied it was our wedding anniversary. Not sure why they asked because we did not get a special table, nor was it acknowledged. Previously, we received a glass of bubbly, which we though was great.
We were seated beside a very loud table and our server was less than attentive. We waited close to 25 minutes to get our first drink, which did not start the experience off well.
All in all, the food was tasty but very expensive for the few bites per dish.
We don’t plan to go back anytime soon, which is disappointment because we loved it the first time.
Yet another great meal ... again! Mule 2.0 is our go to drink. Our fav restaurant in the city, bar none! We often eat at the bar so we can watch the bartenders prepare the drinks as they do it with such flare!
Everything was amazing as usual - we cannot wait to go back!
Awesome cocktails created in house followed by an amazing selection of small plate and a fine Spanish wine. We ate at the bar and the bar man was a wealth of knowledge on both the menu and wines. I highly recommend this place!!
Great atmophere and service and attention to detail.
Food was good but nothing blew my mind. Tapas were expensive. I get that some ingredient come at a hefty price for the restaurant but 10-12$ for 2 croquettas on a bed of salsa verde is excessive.
Still would recommend the place to friends but warn of the prices
Perfect balance of attentiveness and leaving us to enjoy our dining. Loved all the dishes, so must go back to try more ... patatas ! Eating at the bar was a great option.
Jordan was great, it was our first visit, Jordan was very helpful in explaining the menu
I’ve been here close to a dozen times and the food, cocktails and service were very good. In fact, I’d say the servers are excellent. I’m not sure what happened on the Tuesday (Sept. 18th) I went, but my guest and I were not served poorly but downright rudely.
The two worst examples (not the only ones) are when asked if we were having dinner or just drinks, I responded “drinks for now please since we’re not sure if we like each other enough to stay for dinner” in reference to me and my guest (I’m a pretty witty dude). His response was “I’m not sure either.” This was said as he was walking away so it clearly wasn’t him joining in with some good-natured teasing.
The other instance was when ordering drinks, after I had ordered mine (I went first only because my guest was still deciding), my guest asked a question about a cocktail then was considering her choice when the server just turned and left... To be crystal clear, this wasn’t a situation of someone sitting indecisively for 5 minutes not being able to choose a drink. It was a matter of 20-30 seconds...! It was also not a busy night as several tables were empty. Regardless, even that would not have been a valid excuse for that kind of behaviour.
In short, it tainted the evening and took away from the hard work of the chefs and mixologists since even the best food and drinks can be ruined by bad service. If you’re going to have rude service, you better be a 4-star Michelin restaurant or have a location with a view of the Eiffel Tower. You’re not going to be getting return customers otherwise...
We had a great meal. The server was very knowledgeable and helpful and made great recommendations. Will be back the next time I’m in town.
The food was fresh but bland. For a restaurant in that price point, they should have Spanish style tapas nailed in its flavors. It falls short.
Loved every tapas course we had as well as the Meldville chard from Niagara on the Lake.
Every dish was delicious! (And we had a lot of them...)
Great service. Our server was very knowledgable about the wines and made excellent recommendations.
I will go back soon.
Thanks for making my evening pleasant.
Great food and service. Was especially impressed at our servers knowledge of the menu and how to tackle a food allergy. Great time!
An apology for our food being delayed by an hour would have been nice. We really enjoy the food & atmosphere there and will go back. Our wine glasses were topped up in what seemed to be an effort to say sorry but the long delay was never actually acknowledged. Extra free wine is always nice but would prefer an explanation and face to face apology.
We thoroughly enjoyed our evening from the welcoming smile, through the excellent service, outstanding hot and cold highly authentic tapas and a quite exceptional selection of sherries and Spanish wines. Our enthusiasm seemed to be shared by our fellow diners who contributed to the energetic noise level. A worthy addition to the Ottawa dining scene which we fully recommend.
Sit at the bar! My hubby and I went to Ottawa for the weekend and wanted to enjoy a night of tapas. What we didn’t know is that we’d also get some incredible hand-crafted cocktails, incredible wine list, great atmosphere and the foooooood - my god, the food!
A fun, lively place. Very entertaining staff who know their stuff. We were there over 3 hours having different tapas and drinks. We didn’t want to leave!
Will be a bit pricey but without question worth every penny.
Some dishes were hit or miss but generally a cool,l and interesting spot to try new food and delicious drinks. Also their Cava list is spectacular!
First time trying restaurant. We sat at the bar which is fun for this type of restaurant. The food was fabulous - great quality, flavours, textures and preparation. The prices are high for the serving size but that is expected in Ottawa for tapas and a “hot”restaurant. Very disappointed in bartender’s professionalism when he mixed 2/3 of my requested Kettle One martini with Absolute, their bar brand. His excuse was that he didn’t have enough Kettle One! Really!? Ask me first if I want another vodka, but never mix 2 different vodkas for a martini (and presume that it is ok with the customer). Plus I was charged the price of the premium vodka at $15. Otherwise he was very friendly and seemed to be precise and masterful at making craft cocktails. Our waitress was attentive and friendly too. Atmosphere was dark brown throughout, cozy and has a good vibe that bustles. This is a small restaurant so there is a mandatory 2 hour seating, however we were not requested to vacate our seats and enjoyed an extended dinner. I would definitely return for the food.
Fantastic way to see fresh and fab cocktail creations coming to life, no better seat to do so than front row at the bar. No better showman than Gabe, he makes the night. He’s professional, talented and inventive, and keeps his cool in any situation. I recommend stopping by if for only one cocktail - perhaps let him choose it just by sizing you up?
Really great food options and tapas style to share. The service felt rushee because the tables are only reserved for two hours.
We visited Bar Laurel to celebrate a birthday. Service was great and very helpful in providing tips in both the food and wine selections. Our choices were delicious and the presentation was lovely. I would recommend Bar Laurel for a special occasion.
I’ve been to Bar Laurel on three occasions. The food is absolutely fantastic! Every dish produces great flavour profiles. You definitely get the feeling that great care and thought is put into every dish.
The staff is knowledgeable of menu items, responsive and accommodating. The cocktail menu is comprehensive with a great selection of craft cocktails and classic cocktails. In particular, it has a great selection of different versions of a specific type of alcohol - bourbon for example.
Great vibe, music and decor. It had become a go to for date nights.
Bar Laurel always delivers
The food is awesome and the drinks are the best to have in town. The mixologist are very knowledgeable
Bar Laurel became our favourite place to bring friends
Everyone loves it
The food was excellent, the service was very good, wine list well done,
a little dark to read menu but still acceptable.
the noise level was good
price well done
everything was good, food and drinks were tasty, service was great, but I left hungry. (I guess that is tapas)
