Not bad, I suppose, but Bar Sofia was a lot less than I’d thought it would be. For one thing, the whole place was festooned with Dollarama Christmas decorations complete with loud Christmas music playing. It was a Christmas/Holiday party atmosphere but on Dec 2? Menu was definitely more tacos than much else and the servings were small. Not very relaxing or elevated, especially for the price. Maybe that was due to the location.

The food was good although both my husband and I reacted badly later so maybe something was off. The biggest meal challenge was timing. The appetizers came so fast that I hadn’t even received my cocktail. It wasn’t a good match to the food, so the before dinner drink had to be put aside as dessert instead. We purposefully didn’t order a second course right away so we could have a few minutes to enjoy what we had before receiving more which helped. The wine we ordered was excellent with the meal. Overall good but not quite as good as we were expecting.

Bar Sofia really impressed us. Firstly the website is beautiful and really cohesive with the vibe in the restaurant. The service was fantastic- We ordered each a couple cocktails (bonus points for having mocktail options) and two appetizers and dessert. The waiter gave us great recommendations and walked us through the menu- it’s well thought out and some of the dishes they serve are actually family recipes from the staff. Overall we were very impressed and will definitely return.

This was my first time at Bar Sofia, yet it felt like I’ve been a patron for quite some time! I was looked after by a on the house sparkling wine after I apologized for being a little late due to traffic. I was feeling a little rushed & the host picked up on that right away! I was seated at the bar & instantly welcomed & was on a first name basis with Drew & Ros (sorry spelling) in no time! They made it so inviting & fun! It was like seeing old friends you haven’t seen in a while! Then the drinks & food! Wow! The presentation & flavours were just as out standing as the service! Thank you for a fantastic pre concert dinner, drinks & great hospitality! You guys know what you’re doing! I look forward to my next visit & outstanding experience! Cheers!

...I went in with managed expectations, however things suddenly escalated as soon as I took the first bite of my order. To say it was exquisite would be an understatement - I was BLOWN away, literally and figuratively. The Parrilla Mixta is a MUST HAVE; enough said. Don't even get me started on the cassava fries

Really enjoyed bar Sofia after first time in. Nice have actual quality Latin food in this city. Given its location I expected a higher price point but I did find it a little pricey for what it is. That being said, I would recommend as long as you’re aware.

The restaurant is beautiful and the ambience was good. However, unfortunately, 4 our of the 6 people from our group were quite sick after eating at the restaurant. Also, our waitress was not friendly. Perhaps she was having an off day. Other staff who came to our table were wonderful. We are not from Halifax so we likely won't be back for a while but would consider trying again in the future.

Lovely evening - the food and cocktails were delicious. We had the chips and avocado, which was such an obvious choice! It was tasty and fresh - very generous. We ordered two for four of us. We also had the tacos - both cod and pork. These were delicious and even our 10 year old (a bit of an adventurous eater for her age) said they were the best thing ever. We also had some tomato rice and it was hearty and was much more interesting than a typical tomato rice, spicy and with some veg and beans. Like the chips and avocado, the churros were a no brainer. They were hot and crispy, and the dark chocolate sauce was divine.

The atmosphere, food quality, and service at Bar Sofia never fails to impress. The value is unmatched, with perfect quantities of incredibly delicious food for a very reasonable price. Our server, John, was friendly and knowledgeable. They also gave us a beautiful post card with the bill which I thought was a lovely touch. I can’t wait to go back!

As always, the food was great as was the atmosphere ( bonus points as it’s probably the “prettiest” restaurant in Halifax). However, our service wasn’t great. We were warmly greeted by a male host ( or maybe server?) who was SO lovely, which really makes a difference in overall experience when you start off an evening like that. Our server, though, seemed uninterested and not pleasant or friendly. This is the second time I’ve had this same experience here ( out of probably 10 visits in the last year). We still tipped generously as everyone has bad days, and somehow that seemed to annoy her even further. She barely said a word and just quickly walked away. Definitely not the experience we were hoping to have. Food quality makes up for the lack of service we experienced last night, and I’m still going to return, just hopefully with better service next time. It’s not a great feeling to feel as if you’re inconveniencing the staff simply by being there.

Great fun vibe to the place and the service was very friendly and prompt. Seemed a little disorganized in that I believe we had every person who worked there wait on us which resulted in several people trying to take drink orders. The drink menu was a great with a wide variety to choose from that were not your standard. I'd happily go back for drinks. Now the food. We had the tacos, the burger and the avocado with chips. All were underwhelming and not sure I'd recommend any. I'd never order the avocado with chips again, very bland and $17 for what was likely half an avocado that had been whipped to mush. Burger was tasty but almost see through and I really think the pork belly is what added the flavour. Tacos again, just okay, nothing groundbreaking in any way. I loved this restaurant. The staff was AMAZING and the food was so fresh and delicious. Given the times as well the prices were great - a mix of more expensive and affordable plates. My one critique is that the ambience lacked. I'd say mostly due to the decor of the establishment. It was so BRIGHT inside and i was expecting a little bit more mood for a Saturday night dinner. That being said, I will definitely return and it would for sure be a fun spot for lunch on the patio!

Our server Cicilia and manager Eric were excellent. They didn’t have the bottle of wine we wanted so Eric threw in one on the house and some desert as well. Great place amazing food and just simply fantastic service.

We have been here several times over the past year. It’s is a cool place with great service and usually good food despite being a little overpriced. For some reason the music was quite loud compared to past visits and was very difficult to talk and enjoy the meal. We paid and left before finishing.
