Great food and wine, but we came very hungry, had many dishes off the menu, and left hungry. Don’t get me wrong, the food was excellent, but it’s kind of more of a wine and appetizer spot. Don’t expect a full meal.
Food is really good. A couple of misses on this visit. Carrots were underwhelming and they put shallots on the soft serve ice cream which is all you could taste at the end of your meal. Also, still trying to figure out if these guys are enjoying what they are doing, smiling wouldn't kill them.
Delicious food and the staff is all top notch. I am a huge fan of this place!
Went for the Memoirs of a Gweilo dinner. A touch one-note, but some surprises nonetheless. Well-executed wine pairings. Service was at times inattentive but good overall.
Wonderful! Fresh and unique ingredients
There is an Asian inspired set menu until Feb. 10, which is fabulous. It's 8 small course and every bite is a surprise. The total of $ 50 is not much more than one would spend with the ever-changing normal menus. This is no doubt one of the best and most original chefs in Calgary. We're taking some friends before 10th and don't mind at all having this again.
Food, presentation and service were outstanding
Great service, food and wine. The place is full of energy - great for a date or to catch up with friends.
Eric is an exceptional young chef and Will has a fantastic, professional, enthusiastic & knowledgable staff to compliment a relaxed ambiance with a superb revolving wine list that compliments innovative comfort tapas.
Fantastic food- friendly staff. Fun night out. The vegetable dishes were delicious and different and the chicken wings were amazing. I enjoyed the wine that was recommended.
Cool atmosphere and knowlegable bartenders make this a great find!
Absolutely amazing. From the food, service, wine list, and space, everything was immaculate. We were visiting Calgary for a few days from Edmonton, and Bar Von See Fels has been on my list (almost) since they opened.
Not surprised they were awarded one of the best new restaurants in Canada.
A must try. Especially the celery root doughnuts, and the maitake mushrooms!!
Eric’s food was phenomenal, and it was great seeing a familiar face.
Definitely among my top favourites in yyc!
Cannot wait to come back.
I have one complaint only. I reserved a table one month ahead and we were pushed back to a table right in front of the washroom. There was a continuous traffic of people wanting to use the facility who didn't even have the courtesy to shut the door behind them. I even requested a table in front because I did see an empty table near the window. As much as I loved the food, the service and the ambience I will not go back and be seated in full view of the washroom again.
It was great!! Great server!!
Great wine choices! Food was exceptional. The servers are very knowledgeable. Can't wait to return.
It was my first time visiting Calgary and I found this little gem.
The menu was nicely balanced with something for everybody’s taste.
Started with the ham and fired egg aioli, then went for the bison and hand rolled pasta ( Amazing and a very generous portion ) I ended with the Wagu beef ‘ crying tiger ‘ this one for me had my taste buds dancing !
The wine that was recommended was the G Descombes, Morgan 2014 a Gamay varietal which was new to me but WOW was it special :) it paired extremely well with all my courses.
All in all a fantastic place with a solid talented group of individuals that I will re visit at every opportunity:)
Thanks guys !!
Always amazing! Such great wine, and awesome menu items.
Absolutely loved everything about our meal here. The food, service, and wine were all impeccable. Would come back again anytime.
Recommended by a friend to try. My friend was correct. An amazing gem of a tapas style restaurant.
It looked like almost every table, location, setup for guests was unique. Very small setting, great staff, the chef even came over.... not out, just over as the kitchen is right up front. House made ice cream is amazing
Food was amazing. Service was good but made us feel rushed whenever we asked a question. Server seemed annoyed when we asked to taste a second wine when the first one was good not great. Music was annoying.
This is my FAVORITE place in Calgary.
The casual but oh so elegant vibe of this restaurant is amazing. The wine bottles are in water basins on the bar - very shabby chic. The owners are passionate about what they are doing and really want you to relax and enjoy some interesting wines. The food is perfect for sharing and slow eating. It was fun to eat at the bar and watch the cocktails being created (for those who were looking for something in addition to the wine.) Step through the doors and forget about the world outside for a few hours.
Absolute gem - little space with maximum ambiance.
Sitting at the bar is just as fun as getting a table, so don't be thrown off if the bar is all that there's left for seating when making a reservation. The wine list is stellar: you can either get it by the bottle from a list, or by the glass only from a number of bottles they have open that day.
The food is exquisite - try the bison tartar, and the delicious cauliflower!
Will definitely be back.
I think I was expecting more for some reason.
Food was good but nothing I found to stand out where I was like "this is amazing"
Biggest problem I found was that the menu that they had on their website was totally different then the one they had in the restaurant and 90% of the menu had some sort of seafood in it, so when you have seafood allergies you really don't have many options.
I am happy that we tried it but we were left feeling under whelmed and don't think we will be returning!
Great ambient, the bartender definitely knows what he is doing, he helped us Pairing the wine with some of the food. The food is definitely some finest food you can have in Calgary. Mind blowing delicious. Had an amazing time dinning there last night.
The menu selectiions were original and delicious. The wine selection is diverse, but cocktails are limited. Our table was in a high traffic area and my seat was frequently bumped. Other than that, the dining experience was good.
We went for the food, having read about it. It did not disappoint, no surprise really, since the chef/owner has a good record in Calgary. Managing in a kitchen the size of a submarine galley is an art in itself. Small portions menu is ideal for sharing and trying out several dishes. Will be back soon.
Excellent experience service was outstanding only draw back was a 30 minute wait despite a reservation. The food and service were superb
Wine by the glass is not displayed on the menu, but do not let that scare you away. Great by the glass options selected by the brilliant individuals running Bar Von Der Fels.
