Bardea Food & Drink
Last hurrah to support a favorite before an anticipated mandatory shut down. Looking to forward to going back as soon as everything settles down. It will be a helluva party. Stay sanitized. Drop an extra $20 in the tip jar when you pick up takeout. The staffs of our favorites need our help.
Always incredible. Food is excellent, imaginative, fresh, creative!! Should be on the Best of lists!!!!
Loved the food!
Great cocktails, awesome food, wonderful service. Chef / owner came out to speak with us, and sent us a desert on the house. Really wonderful place - nothing like it anywhere near Wilmington. Still can’t believe that this place is in Wilmington.
Fantastic evening for a group dinner. A menu of primarily "small plates" can be a bit intimidating but our server guided us through our order and made excellent recommendations. Each plate was paced well. Nothing disappointed.
Bardea fancies itself a fine dining restaurant, having won a James Beard award, but I found it to be overpriced and inauthentic. Our server was very enthusiastic about the “new Italian cuisine” Bardea serves, and he proceeded to tell us about all of the exotic “fusion” ingredients now served in the majority of Italian restaurants. His mistake was that a couple in our group was from Italy, and the waiter’s claims were plainly untrue. We placed our orders, told that our small plates were meant to be shard family style and everything would arrive as it was finished in the kitchen.
I ordered the scallop ceviche and the squid ink pasta. The ceviche was over-salted and the pasta was lukewarm and had a one-note flavor. The problem with this dining model is that sharing the small plates is difficult in a group larger than a pair due to the small portion size. The timing of the meal was also problematic, as some members of our party finished their meal a full 20 minutes before other received their second course. When we asked the waiter if we could have a bit more of the sauce he had just poured on a plate, the answer was a firm “No”. He did eventually circle back and add the condiment to the dish, but in what fine dining restaurant does a server ever tell a customer “no” to a simple request such as ours?
The server, in his long-winded explanation of how the restaurant works, explained that Bardea had become known for its “Feed the Table” menu option, consisting of various sous vide meats finished in humidity controlled ovens. A half chicken was $32. I have eaten Thomas Keller’s mother’s recipe for roast chicken in his restaurant, and I can tell you, I was not charged as much.
Bardea is an over-complicated and underwhelming dining experience.
Fancy place for Wilmington, but very overpriced for the quality of food and way too loud and noisy to enjoy a quality dinner.
Outstanding food and service!!!!
Great ambiance. Drinks were awesome. Food was hit or miss but presented well
Excellent service, phenomenal food! Love this place!
Every thing was perfect! I enjoyed the food and company, everyone was great. I will definitely be back again. 😊😊
Great food and service. Thank you for making our friends birthday so special! Only complaint was that the restaurant was very, very loud. Perhaps fewer tables or something. Otherwise fabulous and fun!
Love the new menu! Ribeye is always delicious. Really enjoy the pasta and can't wait to try the new Wagyu menu item.
Food and service was great. A bit too noisy but still worth it.
Consistently fantastic food and service. Lively crowd and a fun place to be. Excellent cocktails, nice variety on menu and everything came plated with nice presentation
It was good but extremely pricey for the meal and drinks.
The food and staff is the best!
Nice atmosphere. Food was amazing. Our waitress just needed to be a little friendlier and smile more but other than she was good.
It was our 24th anniversary. We have been to Bardea many times, but today was special. I had the Tuna Pastrami, my husband had the goat ravioli, and then we shared a whole black sea bass- It reminded us of a super upscale Greek restaurant in Vegas we’ve been to. Then we ordered the chocolate mousse cake for dessert. Thanks for giving us a lovely dinner experience to commemorate our anniversary.
Great spot for a date or for a group. I enjoyed the vibe as well as the food. The staff was very attentive even during the busy dinner rush. A reservation is highly recommended.
Food was outstanding and the service was top-notch. I will definitely be back!
Fantastic food, amazing service- if you’ve not tried Bardea yet you’re in for a transformative culinary experience.
From the moment we walked in, the service was top notch. All of the staff was friendly, passionate and extremely attentive. The ambiance was upscale and well-appointed. The food was outstanding - every dish better than the last. We will DEFINITELY be back!
We always enjoy Bardea. We introduced our son and daughter-in-law to the restaurant and they are now fans. Everything is always great and our server was very helpful. The pasta dishes are always the best and our guests had the wild boar that they raved about. Bardea never disappoints.
I don’t get all the buzz about Bardea except for all the buzz in Bardea - dinner came with plenty of din. Although we were seated away from the bar and the open kitchen, the hard surfaces, loud music, and tables crammed eight inches apart made it impossible to hear the server or carry on a conversation (the noise measured a constant 80 decibels- the same as a garbage disposal). Why would I want to return to a place where the most memorable thing we got was a. headache? I wouldn’t be surprised if the servers had an actionable workers comp claim for hearing loss. The poor servers can barely walk by the tables- I got brushed by one who had to put down his plate and regroup. Remove a couple of tables, invest in some sound dampening, and everyone will be much happier.
The poor planning continues with the tiny tables and large serving dishes. The plates are designed to be shared as they come out of the kitchen but the two-tops can barely hold two serving dishes along with the plates and glasses. It makes for a much too crowded tableau.
As for the food, it was ok but didn’t blow us away. The lamb kabob snack was tasty but seemed a bit skimpy with only five half-inch cubes of meat. Nonna’s meatballs were a bland disappointment lacking much flavor while the eggplant parmigiana was overly salty. The spicy honey pizza was flavorful but the crust was soggy in the middle while over charred on the outside. Finally, the tiramisu wasn’t a success on a couple of fronts. Pouring the espresso over it at the table meant that it didn’t soak into the pastry and squirted out when we dug in with our spoons. Also, the addition of what tasted like cardamom was a very jarring and discordant note to finish our meal. An appropriate metaphor for the entire evening.
Great evening thank you.
I've had a lot of people recommend to me to go to Bardea and I finally got the chance to go! We arrived and got seated at a table in between the bathrooms and the service window, which was a little weird altogether. I didn't feel like we got a good feel of the ambiance of the restaurant because we were in such an uncomfortable spot. We started out with the bison tartar, which was underwhelming. The quail egg on top was hard cooked all the way through which was unfortunate. Lamb skewers and pork belly were delicious. The pork belly came with celery root which tasted like candy, delicious. Duck ravoilis were okay but not anything to write home about. We finished the meal with their white chocolate tart. The flavor of the shortbread it was on was great, but the white chocolate aspect was a little lacking. I liked the presentation and the fruity and lemon gastrique-like dots. Overall, I enjoyed the meal but can't say I have a reason to return anytime soon.
Service and food were exceptional. Noise level was high although we were able to talk to one another at normal voice volume.
It was ok. Interesting menu but nothing that would have me drive 20 min when there are better or equal options available. Servers were rushed, probably could have used one or two more due to the V-Day weekend crowd.
Food was solid and very creative menu and flavor profiles! Highly recommended!
Came here with my girl friend for Valentine’s Day. Drinks and appetizers where good. Our main course meals were very disappointing. My lobster with hummus special was terrible, the lobster was burnt and the meat was comparable to mush. My girl friend got some type of seafood Alfredo, her noodles where very dry as if they were sitting awhile before they made it out to our table. Our sever was good, very knowledgeable. It’s unfortunate because I was expecting great food and left feeling unfulfilled. Our reservations where at 9pm and my understanding is that they close at 10, maybe they gave us bottom of the barrel food because we arrived close to end hours.
First time there and it was everything that we expected. We had reservations at 7pm on Valentine’s Day. We were seated as soon as we arrived despite it being very busy. The entire wait staff was attentive and service was excellent.
We enjoyed the shareable small plates and were able to experience so many different flavors.
Our steak was perfectly prepared and rivaled steaks I’ve had at some of the biggest “Steakhouses”.
What a gem in Wilmington.
It was our second time coming to Bardea. The first time was to celebrate our Anniversary. That time we were treated like royalty. We were given a table at the front window in the left corner as you come in to the dining hall. Jason was our waiter and he treated us like family. We had a terrific time. We swore we would be back. What better time than Valentines day? We made reservations at the 7:00 pm sitting. We arrived at 6:45pm and were seated almost immediately. A few minutes later and we saw that it was in the same seat we had previously and Jason was again our waiter. After we ordered our drinks to start the Owner stopped by to chat and welcome us again. We our appetizers and then ordered off of the small plates menu. They were all excellent with "Nonna's Meatballs" my favorite. We had a glass of Peroni on tap and were served in the Peroni glass. My wife asked if we could buy those glasses when the waiter came by and we were told no. That we could possibly order them online. We finished our meal and had a wonderful dessert with coffees and cordials to end our night. We settled the bill and when we were leaving We were asked to wait a minute. The owner came by with two Peroni glasses complimentary. We were very excited by that gesture. The night was wonderful the meal extraordinary and the experience memorable. Its probably our favorite new restaurant in the area we live in. Thank you for a memorable Valentine's night 2020. By the way the food was OUTSTANDING.
The food was delicious! The portions were pretty small for the price. We had a great time!
Love this restaurant. We get the scallop ceviche as an appetizer every time. Ask for extra crackers though. Last time I was there, we had the appetizer, mushroom pizza (excellent), Paccheri, and a cheesecake for dessert. Everything was great but I was a little disappointed that the pasta dish was not very warm. When it got to the table, it was room temperature. I didn't make a big deal of it because they were very busy on Valentine's Day and I haven't had any other issues with the place. It's a bit pricey for Wilmington but worth it in my opinion. Definitely would recommend it to anyone for a great Friday/Saturday night dinner since Delaware doesn't have very many good dining options.
The food is AMAZING!
Loved the protein dishes we ordered, except the scallop ceviche (too spicy, overpowered scallops)
Waiter was nice and attentive.
Tables were too close to each other. Lack of privacy. Had to look at waiters back of neighboring tables too often.
Nicely decorated for Valentine’s Day.
Didn’t know There were time slots for Valentine’s Day dinner.
Valet parking is a nice addition
Lively restaurant with friendly staff and interesting dishes
Return visit (first went one year ago this month, shortly after opening). We were very pleased and thought that food has taken a step forward. A year ago we praised the cookery but felt some dishes didn't cohere (juxtaposing ingredients or approaches that didn't belong together). The dishes we ordered this time were noticeably simplified and consequently more focused. Hamachi collar was served with an intriguing sauce (persimmon, just a bit sour). Rabbit saddle was also delightfully sauced and falling off the bone. Fusili in a pistachio pesto was very satisfying, as was the paccheri with short rib. For dessert we had a panna cotta which was very rich and creamy -- firmer than typical but not at all "gelatin-y." A very pleasant evening!
Had lunch on Valentines day. Service was good. Appetizer of Calamari was unique and very flavorful. Had salad and sandwich that were a bit different but very tasty. Comfortable table arrangement.
