Our server Kyle was so personable and attentive.
Best service ever!
The salads and the pastas were good (my crab spaghetti I liked a lot, fair amount of crab, nice garlic sauce w a little heat- I’d get it again). Pizza was terrible- under sauced, under salted and flavorless. Service was prompt to get us to the Walnut St Theater a block away and waiter attentive but others not so much- I came late and had to ask for water, dinner plates were half cleared by coffee time, that server ignored the plates and we had to ask our waiter to specifically remove the dirty dishes. In summary: it was okay, I’d go again if I needed a place near the WST, it met the need and the pastas were good but avoid the pizza.
Tasteless pizza, slow service
very pleasant dining, service excellent and the restaurant was crowded at the time
After theatre dinner with four grandchildren ages 7 to 11. Great atmosphere, menu for all ages!
All around decent but not great. We had a reservation for weeks and ended up with 6 people squeezed at a table for 4. The owner did little to accommodate us and insisted the table was normal for the size party. Adding two chairs in the crack of two tables pushed together is not comfortable. We sat shoulder to shoulder and up against the wall. The restaurant is roomy and there are many larger tables. I think they were lazy. And didn’t ever check back on us to see how we were doing. The food was average. Some in the party enjoyed the meal. It’s decent prices. My pasta was overcooked and watery. It’s an average option but there are much better places for Italian food in Philly.
Food and drinks were excellent. Waitress was outstanding !!
We made reseravations & they could not honor them so we had to wait.
We eat lunch here before the show. Always quick check in and seated quickly. Server was wonderful and food is delicious. Overall nice atmosphere. We'll have been having lunch here for years now before our matinee at Walnut Street Theater. The theater is a partner with the restaurant so bring your subscriber card and get a discount.
It is a noisy bustling bar/restaurant. I should note that we were downstairs by the bar. I believe upstairs may be a bit quieter. Service was very good, especially attentive to be sure we could make the theater in comfortable time. The peak salad was excellent, the meat tortellini was tasty. Quite ample portions - my wife and I could have shared one order of the tortellini rather than each our own.
Great meal! Terrific serverJimmy! Will definitely return!
The food was average. Our waiter was not particularly attentive and a bit on the erratic side, the salads arrived five minutes before our entrees. I have eaten here several times and have had good experiences, but this particular evening it was very unremarkable.
Barra Rosa is very reliable, good food and an excellent value.
The server was attentive but appeared to rush us through the meal. Maybe there were later reservations for the table. The entire meal with appetizer and dessert took 45 minutes. Our check was delivered while we were still eating dessert. There are far better choices for restaurants in the area.
We stopped by here on our way to Hamilton. We had the caprese salad, penne ala vodka and meatballs. The tomatoes were pretty tasteless, penne was fine, meatballs were nothing special and they plopped three of them in a bowl. No shredded cheese or salt and pepper on the table. Our waiter was the bar tender so he was a little distracted. Overall Inexpensive but pretty generic
Mushroom and crap app was excellent. Buffalo Chicken pizza was good but slightly undercooked, we would ask for it well done next time. My wife's Carbonara pasta dish was outstanding but my eggplant parm dish was just fair at best. Definitely didn't care for the side of meatball that I ordered with it. The marinara was kind of bland and thin. I asked for a dessert menu and our server said I can just read them to you. I picked the pound cake with Nutella mousse. It came in a shot glass. Although it was tasty , if I knew it came in shot glass I may have ordered something else. On Barra Rossa's website it says if you bring your ticket stub from the Walnut St. Theater after the show, they will give you 15% off your check. Well I did that and the waiter said to me," Well I forgot to charge you for your dessert so in the interest of time can we just call it even?" My wife then asked how much my shot glass dessert was and he said "$7" . Needless to say at this point we just wanted to get out of there so we didn't push it but we did get screwed on the deal as our check was for $80. With all of this being said , I would go back , just would be careful what I order and definitely don't get the same waiter
While the food was very good and all 3 of us felt we would like to return to try other menu items, The service was very spotty at best. The Chilean sea bass on the price fix menu was moist and flavorful and my husband enjoyed the baked ziti with sausage. Our waiter was very polite and friendly when he checked with us, but we were ignored on many occasions or were left to wait for our food, silverware, condiments and check for long periods of time. The chairs in the upstairs bar area are hard and uncomfortable which made the long periods of inattention even more difficult. There appeared to be a lot of confusion among the upstairs staff.
Although it was a very busy Saturday lunchtime, we enjoyed a nice noise level and excellent meal upstairs at the restaurant. Steven was an attentive server who did a fantastic job, especially surprising our birthday guest of honor with a lovely dessert complete with a candle! Thanks for a great experience— we will be back!
We had a wonderful time. Rick our server was so attended. We were out in time for
the theater. We will be coming back again.
This was our first visit. We will be back. Convenient to the Forrest Theatre. Great food and better service. We had salads and the red pizza. Both worth ordering.
Absolutely delicious, knowledgeable wait staff. I’m from NY and this was good pizza
The food is always good at reasonable prices and the service professional.
The Food here is excellent. The service on this visit left something to be desired. Even with a reservation, we had to wait about 10 minutes to seated. I'm not sure why. There was no one else waiting. We were told they were waiting for the hostess to seat us but she came back to the greeting station at least three times before she seated us. We then had to wait another 10 minutes before the server, Shane, took our order. He returned promptly with our drinks but then vanished behind the bar never to visit our table again. We finally called over another waiter, Rick, to ask for bread which he promptly brought over. Then our entrees arrived before the appetizers. Rick told us to keep them at no charge and a few minutes later a manger came over to apologize and in addition to the appetizer offered me a free drink. We have been here several times and this is the first time we had a problem with service. Despite the problems we will return again. I do believe this was an isolated incident and the quick actions of Rick and the manager salvaged a bad experience.
good food, great value(especially happy hour) convenient to play and parking. What else do u want? Why a drink that smokes before u go see Young Frankenstein,of course.
Decided to eat here last minute before a show. Parking next door was super helpful and our reservation was ready. Server was fantastic and food was even better. Made sure we were out of there in time for our show. Highly recommend!
The food was great. The service could have been more timely--they were having a very busy night and we were on our way to the theater--which we got to ontime it just took a bit longer than normal to get our meals and when the meals came out--my child's meal wasn't ready yet which is frustrating when you are dining with small children.
The pizza was not good and it was cold and the service was very slow.
Go upstairs for first date spot
we went for restaurant week and it was amazing. we had the tomato based soup, steak with rice and asparagus and the chocolate peanut butter torte. the cocktails we got were pretty good, i forget the name but it was vodka, green and had the smoking effect. make sure you ask to sit upstairs because that is the area they show off in the photos on here, the downstairs looked like an average apple bees but we’re definitely going again.
Good selection of lunch items including pizza.
Very nice date night place. Food and service was amazing! We will be returning in the future
Would have liked to have been offered to be seated in the upstairs area. So much nicer decor and brighter upstairs. Unfortunately only saw it when we went up to the washroom after our meal.
We took advantage of the restaurant week menu and found the appetizer and dessert absolutely awesome. We main course - the chicken and shrimp over pasta was average. Service was very slow. It was not very crowded, but our waitress kept disappearing.
Went for restaurant week - great food and ambiance was great - service was lacking. We had Karen, who admitted she has only been there for 2 weeks and it shows. She kept interrupting us while ordering and didn't know how to answer our basic questions. She was very short with us and even cut us off before we ordered our drinks. When asked if we can substitute the starch for a vegetable her response was an irritated , "well what is it that you want?" instead of letting us know what our options would be. I would still go back, but I would ask for a different server. The seafood cipporini was great!!
Although we have dined at Barra Rossa on several occasions, this was one of the best dinners we've ever had there--judging from all the empty plates which were cleared from our table. Even the Caesar salad, which was previously "eh," has improved considerably. I don't know if there's a new chef, or if the old chef has learned some new techniques, but whatever it was--good job!
This restaurant was an upscale pizza shop.. we weren’t impressed. The food and service were both average. We would not go again.
Server was delightful. Food fine, not memorable. Loud, busy.
Dinner following matinee attendance of “Hamilton”
Great food, service and ideally located...just 2 blocks from Forrest Theatre😀
We took our 2 grandkids, age 3 & 4 after the children’s matinee at the Walnut St. theatre on Saturday at 2pm for lunch. The food was good & the service was fine. At 67 yo, sometimes not easy at a restaurant with young ones.
In the confusion of checking out, when we out the door we realized we had a 15% discount with our theatre stubs. We walked back in & talked to the manager ( I’m assuming) at the register & explained & showed our theatre stubs . He was extremely rude, even though there was no one there at the time & he was chatting with a waiter. He said, “ sorry, you checked out already & it’s too late , can’t help you, goodbye.” I was flabbergasted , 1st to be treated like that & 2nd to be spoken to like that. He didn’t even try to help us. If that’s their attitude, I really don’t need o patronize their establishment again. Extremely disappointed.
