The coronavirus kept people away so our small party had the entire upper floor. The service was terrific and very good food. We've been here several times before for lunch before the Walnut Street Theatre play. Barra Rossa is a partner with WST so you'll receive a discount.
This is a great spot for drinks and food on a weekend night! I booked it for eight women for a reunion dinner, and we were sat downstairs in the bar area by the door instead of the nicer upstairs dining. That was disappointing as I booked it based on the picture and reviews I saw online. The experience is different downstairs (although same menu). The food was good and our server was attentive! The prices match the service and the food, so the value is there! Don't hesitate to eat here, but be sure to be specific in your reservation if you want to be sat upstairs. We had the glow of the street light and the view of the public bus stop for our reunion dinner in place of the second-floor city views.
Great thank ms
Dirty space, beat up, needs somecattention
Our server was awesome. Drinks and lunch were awesome. Thank you!
Good food. Gluten-free options.
Normally, we have been very pleased to eat at Barra Rossa. This time, the salads failed to arrive and the main courses had to be returned to the kitchen. When we finally got to them, they were lukewarm.
Barra Rossa is my go-to restaurant when I visit Philadelphia. Not only is its service top notch, but it offers many gluten-free options, so it is a treat for me to be able to go out and enjoy a pasta dish--the Chicken Abruzzi is fabulous!
Good food and service
Excellent service, excellent food. The downstairs was a bit noisy but we were seated upstairs which was a good deal quieter. Nice place to take parents or a date. Would go back!
Well located traditional Italian restaurant in the City Center. 5-10 minute walk from any major hotel. Bustling atmosphere creates a great vibe. More casual than fancy making it the perfect place to kick back and enjoy some drinks and great food. We sat in the 1st floor bar area with brick walls & plenty of glass to do some people watching of passersby. There is a second floor dining room as well. Our server, Mike, made our night even more special. He was prompt, friendly, attentive & knowledgeable. Between the 3 of us we ordered meatballs, zucchini fritta, veal parmigiana, chicken parmigiana & raviolis. The red sauce was bright & delicious. The wine list has plenty of selection from both Italy & California. The prices were moderate & affordable for the quality of amount of food. All in all a great time and will definitely consider Barra Rossa next time in Philly! Salute.
A wonderful treat before a play.
It makes each visit a marvelous day!!
Had a dinner while visiting Philly. Sat downstairs - not sure if it's different upstairs but the downstairs feels like a fairly basic pizza place - maybe a bit warmer. Nice big comfy booths. Pizza was just OK - it wasn't quite a crispy thin crust though they said it would be. Husband had the gorgonzola gnocchi which was nice. The gorgonzola wasnt overwhelming and the fig balsamic broke it up nicely. I'm not sure the gnocchi was freshly made though. Overall a simple easy place for a no fuss dinner with decent food to leave you satisfied.
Great food service and atmosphere
I am always hesitant to go to restaurants on busy days such as Valentine’s Day, sadly the friends galentine’s dinner did not impress. My food was luke warm, fries under cook, Mac and cheese was not impressive. If we do go again we will stick to the pizza and wine.
Bread crumbs on the seat. The pasta was more like a soup, and I never received a dish I ordered.
Went here because they had Gluten Free options available. We paid $50 for a $13 bottle of red wine. The 'bread" came out, flat pieces of dry pizza crust. The Gluten Free bread for my wife, for $2, was obviously gluten free pizza dough. Penne Alla vodka lacked flavor. Basically red sauce with cream. No pancetta, which is typical of vodka sauce. Side of meatballs with ricotta were just ok... Bottom line, the food is edible but not at that price point. The highlight was the wine. Service was good.
Amazing food and service!!
Had a lovely Pre-theatre meal. We let our waiter know when we got in and meal was served in a timely manner and food was delicious. We were able to get to theater with time to spare and never felt rushed.
We were warmly greeted by the hostess and the manager. We were seated immediately. My husband ordered from the prefixed menu and my son ordered a vegan pizza. They both loved their meals. I had the pear salad and soup which I enjoyed. Service was complete in less than an hour - we made it to the Walnut Theatre in time for our show.
Always very pleasant atmosphere. Dinner pre-theatre menu very complete and good value. A.bit loud but tolerable. Pleasant service. Great location for pre-theatre!
We have dined here since Nick was there and always enjoyed the food. Sunday's dinner was the best meal I have eaten there. It was the pre fix menu... Lentil soup, Lobster fra Diavolo and cannoli. OUTSTANDING!!!
There are many different options from healthy to more decadent. The pizza is great and the salads are sizeable. You can definitely find some great plates to share with a date or friends.
Food was good. Service was meh. Sat at the bar for about 10 minutes before being able to order a cocktail. My drink was awful. Ordered a margarita. It came without “homemade” sour mix. Anyway. Dirty dishes on adjacent tables were not cleared. Probably won’t go back again.
Food was just OK. Calamari and zucchini appetizers were very oily. Friends who ordered spaghetti and meatballs liked it. Eggplant parm was disappointing. Pizzas looked good. Keep your dinner simple and you’ll be ok.
Disappointed. Ambience was not what we were expected and the food was even worse. Nothing special to note, just blah.
we have eaten there many times.
food always good and always consisstent.
our waiter was outstanding, warm and friendly!!!
Delicious gluten free options!
We’ve had Michael several times now and have enjoyed his knowledge and humor. Got the price fixe menu- nice selections and left there pleased.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t say that about the show.
Always an enjoyable experience! Great salad, roasted beet and goat cheese with grilled salmon, wine, coffee, totally satisfied! The others in our group of 4 also enjoyed their choices. Only complaint was the lack of pear in the pear salad. They split a slice of the creme brûlée cheesecake which received rave reviews.
Waitstaff is always attentive without being overbearing. We will not hesitate to dine again in the near future!!
A little tip, if you would like a quieter dining experience, request upstairs seating.
Good food and service upstairs space open and cheery with lots of light
Excellent food, The server was very attentive. We told him we had a show and he made sure we were in and out quickly but did not rush us.
Food was not good, service was worse.
Food was not up to par and I asked for fish cooked well and it was rare
Too many very loud children due to theater matinee nearby. They should have corralled the unruly and extremely noisy children in one section so the adult diners could have enjoyed their lunch.
Eggplant parm sanwiches were not hot Burgers were excellent
Pre theatre menu was excellent. My companion really enjoyed the Lobster Fra Diavlo and the dessert selection was delicious and appropriately paired with the entree choices.
Had a great night here. We were attending a conference and so my colleagues and I had dinner here. Sunday nights are the best. It was quiet, the food was good, and our waitress, Devon, was fantastic. Great experience!
We had dinner before a show - perfect location for dinner before a show at the Walnut Street Theater! We told the waiter we had show tickets and got served promptly without feeling rushed. Both the pizza and pasta were delicious and we had time for a flight of limoncellos! We will return.
This restaurant is a good place to dine with friends after the theater. The atmosphere is conducive to conversation, with a good selection of food and wine, as well as patient and attentive service.
