Great for tacos! Our server was great too!
Food was delicious (had tres amigos for appetizer and stuffed chicken breast for main) but service was atrocious. Waiters not attentive or proactive, kept having to call them over. The tables by the door are very closed and like other reviewers, we had to keep getting up to close the door so the draft wouldn't come in, as the host clearly didn't care. Only reducing by one star because not sure if this poor service is consistent or if we caught them on a bad night. Likely won't come back though.
Good food especially the guac, a little expensive for what you get. $20 for 3 tiny tacos (4' tortillas). Restaurant was cute. Service was terrible, had to wait a long time for service across the whole dinner and when we had to get up and actually approach our server in order to get our cheque, he was visibly annoyed. Lots of other Mexican places in the area that I would go to instead after this experience.
It honestly wasn’t bad at all, my only complaint is the kitchen was super backed up because of the Valentine’s Day rush, and the service was very very poor. They rarely checked in on us, and the food took so long to come out, and the food was a little on the cold side.. but it still tasted pretty good. Will try it out in the summer because of their patio. Also recommend the house beer “Barrio” super tasty.
Booked for Valentines Day dinner, was not too busy, lots of open tables, yet we were limited to 2 hours. Food is excellent, Music is terrible and too loud.
Great neighbourhood place. We went during Winterlicious to try it out and will be going back. Drinks were great, but disappointed that the taps were not working that day. The ensalata del puerto and crispy quesadillas were tasty as were the enfrijolladas de pollo, picaditas con carnitas. The churros and arroz con leche finished up the meal beautifully. I didn't give it a very good for food because of the tacos the camaron: shrimp were tender but the three of us who ordered them were expecting more flavour and spicyness given that they were made with salsa diabla and guacamole.
Good food, good Mexican vibe with the music and decor. Service was a little slow but some of the staff were new. Very friendly and helpful though.
Thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Wait staff was very good.
Loved the feel of the room quite lively.
Food was very good and well portioned.
Great food in a nice location. Recommend trying the tacos. They are quite nice. The churros are also quite tasty
Love your restaurant and go often but I made a reservation for 8:30 pm and when I showed up I was informed that the kitchen was closed and that "open table needs to be updated". I had friends visiting from out of town and we had to find somewhere else to eat dinner because you had incorrect information online. This isn't the first time I've showed up at your restaurant only to be told that you're closed/closing. You need to update your information online (Google Maps, Open Table, anywhere else) so that people can actually make reservations and accurately know your hours of operation. Pretty disappointing.
Very very impressed with Barrio!! Came in on a whim and easily best Mexican in Toronto. Fun atmosphere , great options of tequila and standard Mexican menu! I will be back.
Great meal. Good services for appetizer and main Waiter switched to bartender at that point and we were ignored for 30 minutes until I asked some one else for the bill
Did dessert elsewhere since they did not want to offer any to us. Good food indifferent service
It was great! The service was great the food was great. It was quieter than I expected but it was good
Disappointed with service. Hostess did not know what she was doing. Not watching the front door and kept getting stuck wide open. There was a private party upstairs and the patrons continually went out for a smoke. Hostess never closed door. We had to get out of our seats to close it. Also we wanted a table away from the door and she said that it was for another reservation. They never showed! Needless to say we were steaming. I had been to your place several times in the summer and always sat on the patio. We will never go back in the winter!
Great little Mexican restaurant!!
Lovely meal at Barrio! The food was fresh and tasty, great selection of drinks. Our waiter was very helpful with suggestions and especially when it came to spice level. We were on the second floor and the noise level was very moderate, so we were able to have a conversation without straining our voices. Not sure if that's the case for the ground floor. Will return!
Great service, delicious food and a fun, trendy, pleasant ambiance.
Delicious, the flautas are awesome!
Got double charged for food items and the server attempted to throw away the itemized bill which I had to request to have reprinted. We all make mistakes, so not a problem, but just own it versus trying to cover it up.
I’ve been many times and the food, atmosphere and vibe are all phenomenal and usually the service is stellar.
Best nachos in Toronto BY FAR!!
Loved the patio and the heaters. Food was great and was served quickly. Will definitely come back!
Great food, great patio... always enjoy it here.
Disappointed with the service
I love the food here and the patio is perfect, but every visit, I find the wait staff to be infrequent in follow up or forgetting to refill drinks, come back to check on you, etc. Not sure if it’s understaffing or just not the routine to do that regular follow up. Otherwise I really love going there.
Loved the food but over priced for small portions. Great vibe, cool dishes and drinks are a must have!
Food was 10 out of 10. Atmosphere and vibe was 10 out of 10. Service was more like 20 out of 10 :) this was my first time here and it won't be my last. We had an amazing time!!!
Great experience on a busy patio. Efficient and charming service from the beginning to end. Creative and tasty tacos, well thought out drinks. Fun times!
Everything was delicious!
Great service, warm ambience. The portions were great. Different from everywhere else, I loved the rancheros here!
Catching up with a girlfriend. The staff were friendly and attentive but didn’t rush us, could see we were having a good chat.
We had a spot on the patio - very nice, not too loud for being in a busy section of Queen East.
The food and drink were both very good. We just had some guacamole and chips and a Barrio bowl. It was a little heavy on the crema for my taste (my girlfriend ordered it on the side which was a good choice in hindsight), but very tasty and fresh.
I would recommend and will definitely go back.
overall very good experience. server was very friendly and helpful. veggie taco could have had a bit more flavour and was a bit soggy but everything else was very tasty.
Server was above and beyond amazing! GM passed by to check in- have not had that happen in a long time. Attentive and personable but not too much. Food was outstanding. Vibe was fun and relaxed. Sat on the patio. Sad we had not discovered it sooner but will 100% be back.
I was a tad disappointed with this place. Great location and the patio is awesome. However, the food was just alright, the drinks are seriously so small in these little mason jars.
Not sure if it was our servers first day or not but she really needs to step up her game. Slow, sloppy & maybe unintentionally slightly rude. I’ve worked in the service industry & I know its a really hard job and I still gave her a good tip, but somebody needs to train her properly.
Pass on this place & try another spot for good Mexican food.
Great food. Tacos each had something special that made them delicious. We brought our pre-teen kids and they loved the place. Great margaritas! Amazing patio(s)!
From street-view, the restaurant seems great. The venue is unlike any other Mexican spot in the city, two outdoor spaces and surprisingly spacious. Unfortunately that’s where it ends. The service is slow, the food is bland, the drinks are overpriced for what they are. The servers, as sweet as they are, are unable to be of any help when it comes to providing any alternatives due to allergies. When asking to not have potatoes come as a side for a dish, the server explained that the chef only served food as they created the food and no substitutions were allowed. Let’s be serious here, this is a glorified taqueria (at best), you are not doing molecular gastronomy.
A little disorganized. When we arrived we waited for a walk in couple ahead of us to negotiate a seat as the restaurant was busy. When it was our turn, before she seated us, the hostess looked harried and told us the kitchen was busy and we had to wait to order. We were seated next to the walk ins, and watched them order drinks and get chips and dip. Finally we flagged waitstaff and asked if we had a waiter. He was super friendly and realized that there was a mistake and he was our server. After this things got rolling, but slowly. Our major disappointment was that the kitchen was totally unwilling to modify any tacos for our fussy eater 11 year old. We were told that they wouldn’t compromise the “medley of tastes they had composed”. We were pleased with our food, but our 11 year old had no choice but to order a taco with sauce that he didn’t care for and wasn’t allowed to ask for cheese or the traditional “sour cream”. Basically, other than nachos, he wasted his food and didn’t eat :( I think maybe a little flexibility for kids would be better here.
Horrible experience, we had a birthday and I specifically reserved for a birthday. They refused to give us a patio table because we were too big of a party (8 people). We then asked to be changed to the patio after dinner and they still refused. when I went downstairs to look at the second patio it was empty.
Poor service. Nothing special in the food. Not great. Wouldn’t recommend going again.
Lovely spot on QueenStreet East with lots of options for outside and inside seating. Service was outstanding and good value for great Mexican food with choices if you are just in for a snack and a brew or a full meal!
Great little neighborhood spot with lovely patio and well prepared and tasty Mexican fare. Loved the watermelon salad and fish tacos. Was quiet the night we were there so not as much ambiance but would come again.
Have the Mezcal Margarita! The guacamole Cervice and all the tacos were excellent. So were the churros with caramel sauce.
