Overall my wife and I loved the restaurant and we'll definitely go back. The only thing that was tough was the sound. It was very loud and difficult to hear each other and the waitress, who by the way was tremendous.

Barrio nachos were good, small in portion- 3 loaded small corn tortillas. We did not know what to expect in choosing this place. I guess we were expecting street food or home style food. This place would be great for groups and some cocktails. My thoughts, and maybe not that of others: Slightly bordering on pretentious or artistic exploration on the food. Service was very attentive.

Food was unique and well made. Excellent tequila cocktails. Service is very quick so if you want a leisurely dining experience you have to stagger your orders. This is easy because most of the menu is small plate items which are meant to be shared.

Great restaurant in great food and some of the best margaritas we've had in a long time. Bartenders really know how to make their drinks and they have a deep knowledge of tequila which makes the drinks even better. Service was great and they really know the food there. Can't wait to go back.

It is truly my favorite place to go out to. The drinks are always delicious and I have never gone home without a huge smile. I always order the nachos NO MATTER WHAT, they are a must. Our waiter was very nice and even gave us a few ideas to add to our orders. See you again soon!

Early dinner before a show on a bustling Sat in the newly-redeveloped area of Asbury Park. Located near the fringe of this zone, which is still expanding, we wouldn’t have found it if not for its OT listing. Many good restaurants here, and BC is one of them as the food is excellent. In BC’s case, and like most trendy spots here, it comes with higher prices/smaller plate sizes than those at big-chain Tex-Mex, tho w/good reason. Party really hungry? Prepare to spend $30+ pp without drinks/dessert/tip, or perhaps try another spot. Austere modern chic interior and a cool bar up front with full menu, open kitchen w counter/seats way in the back. Nice plywood bench-type seating (unpadded) on the periphery, plus single tables/seats. We’d ask for a table next time. Nearly empty and kitchen was busy prepping for dinner (5 pm), yet service was still 100% on-point, and food came out hot and well-presented. Our server explained the select creative menu in detail, which was helpful as some ingredients would be unfamiliar to most, even to foodies like us. The idea here is to sample and share lots of tastes, and ALL are def interesting/creative choices. Probably not great for small kids, as BC is upscale, serving very complex and carefully-prepared sauces and accompaniments. An order of incredibly tasty hake tacos ($15) consists of 3 small flat corn tortillas with excellent fresh guac/salsa. We upped our plate to 4 tacos for $21, and this made for a good small app for two, but would not have sufficed as an entree for one. We also ordered great deconstructed “nachos” as an app, which were the same 3 flat corn tortillas, but fried. We ordered a tasty beef tenderloin ($19), perfectly pan-seared MR (vs grilled), which came with an awesome carrot and roasted cumin/coriander sauce and a small portion of amazing bean salsa with finely-chopped peppers which were minced to be uniform in size. All were gorgeous, delightful, very tasty plates. We will definitely return.

This was our second trip to Barrio Costero. This time we took our teenage son. It was once again absolutely delicious. We shared 5 dishes making it tapas style. The service was excellent as well. Some standouts were the plantanos, pork belly with caviar and the sand shark fish taco. The fish tacos had the slightest sweetness which was amazing. If you enjoy spicy margaritas you need to try the Jalisco is Burning. Hope to be able to return soon.

We had a nine o’clock reservation and was not seated until 9:25. I observed the hostess have a conversation with someone who walked in 15 minutes after we did and were seated before us. The manager apologized but this left a bad taste in our mouth.

The hostess’s only had 1 iPad to check in, were unorganized. I waited 10 minutes while one girl was one the phone so the other girl could look up my reservation. They didn’t have my note about seating in the back. When I asked about it the hostess said I could sit in the front. The restaurant remained 1/3 empty while I finished my meal, including the tables that “had reservations” in the back. Food was salty, but good. I’d probably go back again once they work out the kinks and splurge on the extra iPad license and competent hostesses.

Excellent service and excellent food! The salmon skin chicharron was great, as were all of our other dishes. Our server, Seamus, helped us make our picks and guided us well. We've been to Barrio Costero several times and we always enjoy the experience.

Booths are so cafeteria style. 6 adults were squeezed into a booth. Food very different and pricey, but the seating situation was so not good, classy or at all appealing.

The “flight of mezcal” was vile - I cannot believe this is served with a straight face. In all seriousness, the mezcals served were effectively undrinkable, bordering on toxic. It’s as if the restaurant had a supply of the worst mezcal available and needed to do something with it. Serving beverages that taste like shoe leather and tar (their description, not mine - but very accurate) with an orange wedge is not the answer. Seriously. Just gross.

This was our 3rd time dining at the restaurant. Food and service is consistently good. Three of is shared the ceviche, kale ensalada, pork tenderloin with mofongo, carne asada & vegetable huarcje. Ceviche, pork & carne dishes were outstanding. Our server, Shamus (sp?), was terrific!

I've been here before and the food and service were great. However, this time around we went for Cinco de Mayo. The service was horrible. The food was all premade and just thrown on a plate. The food tastes better than it looked but not by much. The "special" menu was awful for the holiday. I wouldn't come back here during a holiday.
