   I’m Indian and I’ve tried a lot of Indian places and this one does stand out with better menu options. The food was definitely better than the competition. I ordered the lamb meatballs which was overdone and on the sour side, so maybe skip that. Everything else we ordered was on point. Cocktails were different- in a good way. I will go there again to explore their menu a little more.

   Beautiful space! Very chic decor inside, and there is a large outdoor dining space as well. Vibe is very West Loop. Food was outstanding. Cocktails very good as well; we really enjoyed the unique flavor combinations. Bar service was great; however, the service in general needs some work. The hostess was very laid back to the point of not really knowing what was going on. Our server, although very friendly, did not appear to know the menu well enough to answer questions or provide recommendations for both food and drinks. He did not check in to ask how we were enjoying the food or to ask if we would like more cocktails. We ended up flagging down a food runner to request more drinks. The level of professionalism certainly does not match the restaurant's aesthetic. I can still highly recommend Basant for the food and cocktails. It is a truly unique restaurant, especially for North Center.

   The food is authentically Indian. More refined than places I know on Devon. Better by quite a bit than a place like Roux.

    Our first time to this neighborhood gem. The entire experience was superb. The food is wonderful and authentic with a wide array of options. There is a very well executed cocktail menu and a good selection of wine and beer. The service was on point and the ambience a pleasure. We will definitely return.

    Things started out poorly when the I asked the host about their corkage policy. The host said we are not BYOB. I replied “I know but what is the charge to bring your own wine.” The host said we don’t allow that and rudely walked assay. The host also said we are very busy and your meal might take 90 minutes. We finished our meal in half that time and half the tables were empty. Our table server was quite nice and helpful. Very limited wine menus. Naan was amazing. Both of our entries were meh. Did not taste like authentic Indian food. I really wanted to like this but will not be going back.

    I came here last summer and left feeling mediocre about the food. A friend mentioned they had a taste for Indian food last night, so I decided to give it another try and I'm sure glad I did. Much better experience.. excellent food, comfortable space and great service. I'll be back again soon.

    This was my second visit to Basant and it really is a neighborhood gem. The cocktails are amazing and the food is delicious. I highly recommend the fish and chips as a starter. The staff are very friendly and accommodating and the restaurant has a great ambiance. This is definitely my spot for fancy date nights with my wife.

    First of all, I am not a fan of Indian food, but I can usually find something to nibble on while my husband enjoys traditional Indian food- not here. The only thing without the heavy spices was the Naan bread. Even the tomato, cucumber, onion salad was heavily spiced, (and I couldn’t get a knife to cut through the cucumbers). The wait staff was friendly and attentive, so no complaints there. The room was noisy accentuated by loud music. The only reason I am giving two stars is that my husband enjoyed the lamb shank. Oh, and they did not have the chicken tikka on the menu that is highlighted as one of their popular dishes on this website- it is Cornish hen- no thank you. Not a great experience.

    This is a great new (to us) restaurant that we recommend. Had cocktails, appetizers and main courses. All were extremely good. The staff were especially attentive without being intrusive. The bar has a very nice variety and their speciality cocktails are really good. Definitely recommend this restaurant.

    Appetizeers were really good We had Lamb chops, Pork belly and Amritsari fish. The main course was not good. Lamb gustaba which consisted of lamb koftas were over cooked. It was rock hard. Need to change up recipe to make the meatballs much juicer.

    Food was bad, our malai paneer cilantro was suggested by one of servers was very salty. Paneer makhani and malai kofta were just okay nothing exceptional for the price we paid. Never going back there

    We had a lovely dinner with friends where we ordered for the table splitting 3 appetizers (don’t skip the pork belly) 2 mains, and a side. The lamb was the star of the meal as well as the gulab cheesecake for dessert. The cocktails were creative and delicious and we would absolutely come again.

    We booked for 2 and then invited my son to Dinner. The invitation didn’t get updated and we had to sit outside. They had a heater; however, it was still cold. The food was ok and nothing special. It was a bit pricey. I wouldn’t go back.

    Been here a few times and I’m never disappointed. There was a revamped menu this time which was great! Some new options and once again the Dal Mahrani stole the show. Also don’t leave without having the Gulab Jamun Cheescake!

    We live in the neighborhood and love Basant. We always take friends there when they come to visit. The food is so flavorful but not crazy hot and spicy. Service is friendly and nice ambiance. Last night I tried one of their cocktails, Mai Chai, and it was delicious. Highly recommend Basant!
