I have had both lunch and dinner and the food is very good. It's obvious that they are still building their business. At dinner, two items from the menu were not available. These happened to be the dishes that 4 of 5 at our table wanted to order. The wine list is hand written on a grubby piece of cardboard. There is reasonably priced good wine. The view is lovely and I am sure that with some work, this could be one of my favourite restaurants.
Friendly and attentive staff, reasonable prices, good food, great presentation, timely service. Will definitely go back again.
Chosen for a friend's birthday. We were all pleased with our entree and would like to return to try their Saturday/Sunday brunch menu.
Found the restaurant to be VERY cold and noisy. Maybe draping cloth on the ceiling would break down that noise a little bit? The food and the service was very good tho.
As we entered the restaurant we were greeted immediately and guided to our water side window table. Our hostess, servers and restaurant owner all took the time to check in on us throughout our visit. The environment within the restaurant involving staff, owner and visitors was energetic and positive. The food was beautifully plated and the flavors and textures vibrant and fresh. We will be back soon!
A bit loud for fine dinning.
Food was very good and service good, but very noisy even as just 2 at the table it was at times difficult to converse quietly. Perhaps plants or area rugs etc could reduce the noise echoing. Lovely setting.
A lovely brunch at Beach Fires. Great menu items, unique and tasty.
Had a problem using the open table when making a reservation. Also called to say we would be late, talked to a lady on the phone but she never changed it on the computer.
Food was very good and excellent flavour. We have dined here 3 times and have not been disappointed.
Great food & ambience!
We enjoyed the restaurant, but did find it a bit noisy. I think it needs some soft furnishings to muffle the noise.
Other than our friends not getting their dessert after 20 minutes of waiting and the waiter having to adjust both of our bills of which was resolved by ourselves and conveyed to the waiter. All-in-all our second visit to BeachFires was a very pleasant one.
Great little waterfront restaurant with a unique menu. The waitress we had was very personable with a great sense of humour...she made our night! Loved the fishbowls at each table!
Valentines Day special menu was fantastic. Lobster / prawn over coconut rice and grilled asparagus . Everything done great. Place was packed . Glad we reserved a table. Drink specials were also good. Dessert was a dark chocolate fondue with plenty to eat.
Food was awesome! Service good and the kitchen was fast even on a busy night like Valentine's.
Delicious Entrees and cheap drinks. Fantastic view and friendly service. We ordered 2 Appetizers: Calamari and Beef Tataki...they were okay. For Entree I had the Linguini Capesante without Mussels which was very tasty and my husband had the Steak Oscar and he said it was very good!~ We will be back!
Calamari was awesome. Ordered the Thai Coconut Curry Bowl. Very bland and the shrimp was way over cooked
No written wine list and the server could name two which he offered as choices.
Calamari was four strips and not special in any way.
We had indicated it was a birthday celebration when the reservation was made—but it was never noted. Dinners were okay.Small tables and lots of dishes.
Disappointing and unacceptable that I made a reservation for 10, and it was changed to six. Please see attached photo, and explain to me how four people do not have seats that were reserved well in advance.
Loved the food!! Had the oysters, chowder and pasta. All were excellent. Pasta was full of seafood and was reasonably priced as were the other two items. Great service and my lunch partner enjoyed her salad too.
So glad we found this hidden gem! Beautiful spot right at the marina. Great food and good portions. Friendly staff and an amazing view to go with all. Definitely recommend and we will be back!
First time at the Beach Fires Pacific Grill for my brother and I. I had the fish (salmon) tacos which were very good and my brother had a steak. He said it was cooked to perfection!
We had a table for two in the window which was very nice. We were right on the Marina and could watch the seaplanes coming into Nanaimo.
This is a great addition to the restaurant scene here in Nanaimo! They have a great variety of seafood and unique combinations. I wanted the quesadilla with shrimp but they were all out of the quesadilla's which seemed very strange to me. Instead I ordered the caesar salad with prawns, it was delicious! My friend had the sirloin burger which she said was delicious also, I could see the juice dripping down her chin when she bit into it! The price is comparable to most upper scale restaurants. The view of the marina is lovely. Definitely ask for a table near the water. I found it a bit chilly by the window but it was worth it for the view, they later turned on the heat. The service was okay, the waitress got my order wrong as I had asked for the small salad and got the large, but it turned out to be very good.
I would also like to add to your above questions the fact that it is located in the most wonderful view of the Harbour....it is a great place to bring out of town guests. Love it. Also, our seating was by the door, next time we come, I will ask for a different table as by the door (being in the winter) was very cold as the door opened and closed also it was a very busy area as people come in
Thank you for having such a lovely restaurant, looking forward to perhaps, in the future, having the Patio opened in the Summer.
Great food, great service, great atmosphere. More wine variety could make the place even better. We highly recommend Beach Fires to everyone. We will be back soon:)
It became obvious that it's a new restaurant fairly quickly after we arrived. This place has potential but it's not there yet. See below for pros and cons, but we won't be returning anytime soon.
- Good parking
- Ambiance was pleasant
- View was nice
- Pricing was reasonable.
- Food taste was above average.
- Waitress had a nice personality (though perhaps lacked some professionalism)
- Menu seemed diverse (except for the fact that you can't get an omelette for breakfast or brunch)
- No omelette on the Brunch menu. We decided to order the eggs "any style" and then asked for an omelette, and the waitress said "we don't have the pan for it" and that they don't make changes to the set menu because the item "is only $12", implying for such a small amount you can't expect them to make exceptions to suit the taste of the client. I've never heard of a restaurant serving breakfast dishes and not being able to accommodate an omelette with no fillings. They were offering a Frtittata...seems to me you could use the same pan?
- Our 5-person table was within 5-feet of the front door and it was -2 outside. We kept our jackets on while there and finally asked to be moved to another table. Fairly uncomfortable.
- Food took 45 minutes after ordering. We were warned of a delay but 45 minters seems excessive. 3 dishes came out luke warm.
- Eggs Benedict portion was very small.
Still in “soft opening” so no wine list yet, but the $5 wine and beer are sure to get everyone’s attention.
Excellent service and the flambé peppered strawberries are to die for!
Wonderful ambiance which will only improve in Spring/Summer with the waterfront view.
We will certainly be returning.
Would advise reservations as tables are limited
Fairly new restaurant. Food was definitely a 10+ a good variety of flavours to keep everyone happy. Service was outstanding. Upscale restaurant. Super clean.
Downside- servers should be dressed appropriately for upscale restaurant.
Volume of music needs to be adjusted for conversation. But all these things I'm sure will be easily sorted out the longer they are open. Definitely will be returning.
The service was amazing! My friends and I loved the menu selection. Our server was knowledgeable and easily answered all our questions regarding our choices. Wonderful ambience, delicious food (which was elegantly presented) and can’t wait to go for brunch!
