Hard to find, terribly overpriced, uninspired preparations, and our server either couldn't hear or was nervous -- she asked us to repeat ourselves over and over, and she never displayed any sense of humor. The good news is we had a table on the terrace and the view was spectacular. That was the ONLY saving grace.
This is a great place that we stumbled upon when it was new a couple years ago and revisited again recently. I'd call it a bit of a hidden gem tucked away in the busy downtown area near the river. Food is fantastic. Service is exceptional. The fresh squeezed OJ and coffee are wonderful too. Great ambiance and open feel on a nice day or evening. Highly recommend for weekend brunch but I'm certain dinner would be great too.
Beacon Tavern offered pleasant outdoor urban seating with green amidst Trump Tower and Wrigley Bldg. Our server was a bit harried and unpleasant. But, the food was outstanding and made up for that. Two members of our dining group ordered the beef brisket which was huge portion, tender, flavorful and delicious. The whole table nibbled off the platter and there was still some leftover to take home. The fish special was outstanding as well. Interior of restaurant is beautiful, would love to go back in the winter and enjoy the cozy setting with tapers on each table.
Very nice birthday lunch for my husband. The waiter was very courteous and brought macaroons to take home. Would come back again.
Really nice place with good service. Not the biggest menu around but there are choices. Would like to return again, particularly for dinner.
Can’t go wrong here. Blue crab lettuce wraps- divine. Pork porterhouse- amazing. Blueberry pie for two- AN ACTUAL WHOLE PIE AND FANTASTIC. It’s really more like enough for 3-4 people, if it had more ice cream. But get it anyway.
Food/cocktail selections were creative and delicious. Bar was very loud. On my way to the ladies room, I discovered the separate dining room which had a much lower noise level. Will request that next time. My husband and I sat outside and it was a warm evening but perfect for conversation.
We enjoyed the atmosphere, the arugula salad was nice and the burger was nice. My wife’s polenta was also good. I would say it is a nice tucked place for a quiet meal but could use some healthy options. Maybe I picked the wrong place for that. Just seems like it would be a great date place if it had more healthy options to chose from.
Open table suggested they were known for seafood. Though the catch of the day was great, and the shrimp appetizers very good, the choices were few. I wouldn't compare them to, say, Shaw's Crab House. I also thought there was a river view. I didn't walk around enough to know if that was true, we agreed to be seated outdoors. All in all, very good, but nothing that would lead me to returning as opposed to trying something new. We travel to Chicago once or twice per year.
Good food nice casual dining interesting menu little hard to find
Great spot during summer near the river
Six of us went to Beacon Tavern and it was wonderful! We sat outside on a Thursday night and ordered 8-10 appetizers, small dishes/salads, and a dessert which we shared. Each had a unique twist/combination of ingredients which made it delicious. Try the shrimp toast and the blueberry pie!
The outside patio is on the plaza right next to the Tribune Tower and so pretty. We will go again!
Always a fun experience with a great staff. Thank you Madeline, Grayson and Erica
Great service and great food! The scallops I had were cooked to perfection! Will definitely be visiting again.
No flavor in food - didn’t enjoy our meals I would not recommend
I thought the price for the entree’s were high especially since there was nothing special about the food .
Fish and chips, hamburger basic salmon nothing special except the price point
Great spot - unique food with a warm and wonderful vibe. Menu changes with a nice variety of offerings.
Colleen was absolutely wonderful as a server
Good luck to her heading to Temple, the Tavern will miss her service
Did not want large entrees, so we shared a few starters. They were more than enough and very tasty! Would love to return with a larger appetite to try the entree options!
Great vibe. Service great despite HH. Dined outside in shadow of surrounding towers. Fun stuff
the outdoor area is one of the best in the city. the food was good. The service was horrendous. our waiter was MIA. This was a business lunch and i had to ask the busboy to ask our waiter to come over. A manager came over and took our order. he had a bit of an attitude at first but then became appropriate. The waiter did not deserve a tip but i did leave one.
Great spot for upscale casual lunch. Very good service with top flight waiters. Great mango cheesecake dessert.
Beacon Tavern is a hidden treasure. Every person I take here is surprised to find it and has added it to their list of restaurants to visit regularly. The food is excellent with something for everyone (i am partial to the crispy polenta). The service is excellent and conversations are easily had. The service is quick enough for lunch without making you feel rushed.
Outstanding service! I will definitely be back. Greyson made a very long day end on a high note for me!
Excellent food and very friendly staff we rraived aearlier for our dinner and they allow us to switch tables
Food was awesome. Love their 'different' menu items. Our server could have been more descriptive about the offerings (I didn't realize the blue crab lettuce wraps would be a creamy crab concoction.) Polenta was AWESOME, as were all the veggie/side dishes! Nice and quiet, more elegant than we expected!
It was very good. We were there after an architectural boat tour and it was great place for a late lunch. On Sunday’s they serve brunch until 4pm and we could order from the brunch menu but that was fine. The brunch menu had some very good and different choices. The restaurant truly is a hidden gem. Our waiter was great too and after $466 at Lawry’ The Prime Rib, the night before it was a real bargain.
The burger was AMAZING!!! MUST TRY! I live so close and now I’m going to be addicted!
Another wonderful location for this restaurant group. The atmosphere is lovely and like that it is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Michigan Ave. We all enjoyed our brunch selections, the menu includes good options. Definitely going back soon...
The restaurant is quite cute; food was very good. The service was not good. We felt our waiter was arrogant and made us feel like it was a bother to wait on us.
We went to Beacon Tavern with a close group of business associates and had a wonderful time. Great location and warm, chic gastro-pub environment with lovely outside space too. Food was top notch and diverse enough for there to be something for everyone. The knowledgeable, attentive, and amusing wait staff helped set the tone for a fun night. FYI, everything was delish (fyi, the BBQ brisket platter was a real standout - smoked meat extraordinaire). Thanks, Beacon Tavern!
Fantastic service, great atmosphere, excellent cocktails and dessert.
As always Madeline was fabulous
Server Robert did an awesome job making us feel welcome and well attended. His suggestions and helpful information made our experience very enjoyable. Reuben Benedict is superb! Chicken and Waffles were done very well, and more than adequate for my big eater son. Spouse had the quiche, and a danish. She enjoyed both very much. Located just off from the RiverWalk, steps from Trump Hotel and near Wrigley Building. Certainly would eat here again, and would try dinner next time in the Windy City.
Great food and friendly service - a hidden gem.
Enjoyed an outdoor dinner with a friend I had not seen in so long. Our waiter, Grayson, was awesome as was our Turley wine he recommended. Food was wonderful - cheddar biscuits of course a must. Always love this place!
We had a very pleasant dinner at Beacon Tavern. We sat outside. There was some street noise but otherwise very pleasant. Very attentive service but not obtrusive. Food was very good. I had salmon with white asparagus. It was the perfect portion for me, but it was a smaller portion.
Great food and outstanding quiet and relaxing patio area. Special cocktail was delicious and refreshing and tap beers very good. Very friendly and attentive service. A hidden gem.
Beacon Tavern is one of the few restaurants I often frequent due to the quality of food and service. However, I found it odd this evening when the hostess sat us on a small corner table when the restaurant was almost empty and could have sat us on a booth or bigger table. George did graciously sat us at another table when we requested and gave us good service for the rest of the evening.
Everything was outstanding- the food, drinks, service, and our server’s recommendations. A fantastic experience which we will definitely repeat!
Beautiful seating outside. Wait staff was very attentive. Cheese biscuits and entrees were very good but portions small. Skip the truffle dessert - not very good. A $200 meal for three people - one drink each, three entrees, shared one salad and one dessert.
