Pretty cool experience. Host was stunning. The lighting and general ambiance can be a little overwhelming if you’re not ready. It’s an experience. I’m personally here for it. Our server was efficient and helpful but didn’t really talk to us. I’m industry so I get not being excited for every guest but at least a what are you guys up to tonight would’ve been nice. I would’ve loved to get to know the restaurant better the inspiration and such. Overall a nice experience. Food was excellent. Music was fitting. Would I come back? Yes, but let me see some smiles.

This restaurant is mighty nice inside, with a combo of Moroccan and high tech features. We had to get lead into the restaurant through a basement corridor. The staff folks are all very helpful and professional. There is a circular "stage" upon which performers do some rather tricky acrobatic maneuvers. This is a pleasant place to be entertained, but if you're going for fine quality food, you'll want to go elsewhere.

We went to Berber for a Saturday night 4 course meal/show. We arrived early and were given a nice ringside table. The venue was nicely appointed. The service was adequate. Unfortunately, they may have been understaffed as all of the hot plates came out lukewarm warm. Heather, the MC brought good energy but the three acts were pedestrian. The highlight of the night was the middle aged gentleman drummer who played throughout the 3 1/2 hour evening. No serious complaints here, one visit is enough though.

The food is excellent. It was not clear to me that to see the show you have to make a special reservation. As a consequence, we drove a long way and got a nice dinner but no show, which was our reason for going. The ambience is somewhat frenetic. We only saw our server a few times, in fact, it was not clear who our server was for a while. We were seated for at least 15 minutes before anyone spoke to us. So, the food is great but the overall experience was less than we had hoped for.

For some reason even though we had booked the reservation in advance for the twilight show, they had run out of the main course for the prie fixe menu and had to substitute something else for the Lamb tagine. We were also the only table affected and had to wait 15 min after everyone else was served so while everyone had finished eating and was enjoying the show, we had to try to eat while watching. Also it was weird that the reservation had asked us to choose lamb or chicken but there was no chicken option available for the actual meal. Finally, the soup that was served was only lukewarm. Otherwise food was mediocre and not memorable except the fries that we ordered outside of the meal. Portions for 2 people also on the smaller side. You basically shared a salad and a bread. With regards to the show and pacing, I wish that there wasn't so long between courses as there was a lot of just waiting around. Whole thing took 3.5-4 hours so just be aware before booking. Show itself was just ok and only consisted of four 3-5 min acts. The only one that was Moroccan themed was the belly dancer which was disappointing. We had asked to have our dessert early because we needed to leave earlier but the waiter only said "it's going to be here soon" without informing the kitchen. It still took nearly 20-30 min for us to get the dessert from time of us asking and yet we were still one of the last tables to be served. Prices were ridiculous for what we got plus they automatically tacked on a service charge of 20%. Would not be returning or recommending to others.

Unfortunately a horrific night spent at Berber. The only saving grace were the performances, which were entertaining. The MC, Heather, was especially enthusiastic and the Egyptian drummer was quite talented. The food was mediocre and the tajines were inedible. The food is not Moroccan. My husband is Moroccan and we lived in Morocco. The tajines (main course) of chicken, lamb and sea bass were just horrible. The flavor profiles were off. They didn’t even taste like Moroccan flavors. The flavors were mostly salt and turmeric. My chicken tajine was like the worst airplane chicken you have ever had. My husband did enjoy the octopus that was on the appetizer menu and extra. The mojitos were awful and had a strange taste. The service was awful. Our waiter didn’t seem to have any idea what was going on and had no idea what we pre-ordered. I also preordered a special addition for my husband’s birthday, which the waiter was unaware of and made a complete debacle of it. He brought a “shot” in a vessel with a handle and lit it on fire and gave my husband a short straw. He then lit it on fire. It was quite loud and he did not give a good explanation of what to do. When my husband tried to drink it with the straw, the straw shot out of the drink into his eye. The liquid then spilled on the table and the table and my husband’s hand were on fire. It was quite frightening. My husband managed to put out the fire. The waiter didn’t say or do anything. I had to go find the manager to explain what happened. The owner at first was quite defensive until the MC explained she saw what happened and that it was quite disturbing. The owner came over and apologized to my husband and said that he would take care of the check. When we got the check, there was no adjustment. Moreover, the check didn’t even reflect the correct pre-payment I had made on OpenTable. I had to discuss the bill twice with owner twice to get it sorted out. His only adjustment was removing some cocktails. Unbelievable

Some plates are small portioned, but you don’t know which. It’s like one of the clips from Netflix series called Hot Date. Food was good, but wait staff pays attention unevenly. We waited 40 minutes after table cleared and had to flag down a server for the check.

Every item in the $75 5 course SF Restaurant week prix fixe was delicious. Crunchy bread with a smooth nutty pumpkin soup, fresh salad (not overdressed) with pomegranate kernels and beets, melt in the mouth branzino in a great spicy sauce, a large portion of lamb shank with faro and a chocolate mousse cake with coconut sorbet. A tangy non alcoholic soda with rose water accompanied a great balanced and interesting menu.

Would not recommend to friends or family. Bones in cod, which was frozen prior. Shank was cooked till it was dry and gamey. Show was a “circus” felt like I was sole under a guise due to marketing and ads. Felt gimmicky oh and not to mention it’s 3 hours. Cocktail good bread lovely. Soup and salad nothing to write home about. Will not be back felt painful to dine there.

I would like to try another night but I never convince my wife to return. We picked the night of a special show but we were relegated to the back room while an amazing show and party went on in the front room for 100+ folks. There was very loud music for the show. Our poor servers were overwhelmed. The orders came our confusedand while they tried very hard to pay attention to us the result was one of the worst dinners we have ever had ar $120 a head. They should not have tried to operate the back room.

Berber was expensive and so-so on all levels. I'm glad I went. I really couldn't recommend it and I probably will never return. But I was looking for something different for my birthday and Berber was it. In retrospect , we could have gone to a really good restaurant, with awesome food and would have had a better time.

A fabulous experience - from the service to the ambience and of course the food & wine. Berber is a must for anyone in SF. The flavors of each dish are unique and delectable. We did the chefs menu with the wine pairing which was wonderfully created. The chefs menu was the perfect way to try each type of dish and experience the flavors Berber has to offer. Each staff member was kind and helpful. 11/10 recommend.

Went there for a date night with my girlfriend. Nobody check in with us during the entire meal. No dishes were introduced to us when they arrived. If I hadn’t noticed, we would have received the wrong bottle of wine. It was an overall bad experience for the price you pay
