BIERA - Ritchie Market
My friend and I planned to go to Biera after I read about your restaurant on Julie Van Rosendahl website “Dinner with Julie”. After a few simple google searches I read even more about this new and impressive restaurant. Biera delivered on all the rave reviews! We started with the sourdough and lardo appetizer and ordered the grilled squid and endive salad to share. We also sampled the craft beer with the sampledoodle and a yummy sweet ginger cider.
As simple prairie gals we loved every gourmet bite. It didn’t entirely matter we weren’t certain what we were ordering the taste was exceptional. The serving sizes left you satisfied but not overwhelmed. Definitely going back to eat again so we can try more menu items!
The restaurant decor is a mix of sparse but natural elements that make the restaurant feel both casual and warm. The noise level on a busy Saturday night was low and allowed for easy conversation.
My favourite part of our experience (after the food) was our server Jess. Jess was friendly and welcoming all while being professional and efficient. Jess is a local (she lives in the neighbourhood) was able to let us know about the curious and constantly lined up ice cream place Kind Ice Cream across the street. She helped us make difficult menu decisions and was just so sweet and friendly. Loved her!!!
My friend and I are looking forward to planning another Edmonton trip just to try more items on the Biera menu.
Amazing food and experience as always. They always make the experience memorable.
A great “new” type of experience. Fantastic sharing plates, incredible beers. We will definitely return and spread the word.
Food was very good. We will come again.
Amazing food! Get the risotto.
Outstanding food and great service. I wish the tables weren't so close together, the dining experience feels a little claustrophobic. It would help with noise levels too.
We were a group of 8 and had one of the 'common' tables, it worked out really well. All the dishes were shared and we loved the squash, chicken and special fish dishes the most. Service was excellent with just enough time between visits to check up on us. I was driving so had the tonic mix and it was very refreshing. Have already recommended to friends and you should go too!
I was in a group of 3. We had originally planned to have dinner in addition to tasting the varieties of beer. As for the beer I would rate them as good to excellent with a wide choice available. However, we found the dinner menu too "pricey" and decided to go elsewhere for dinner. A better selection of appetizers would be welcome.
Excellent all round. Could have done with a lower ambient noise level, but it’s a big room so that’s to be expected.
One of my favourite places to dine at in Edmonton.
Overpriced, small portions. I don't mind this, if the food is fantastic but of 6 dishes there was only one that blew me out of the water. We did not want to stay for dessert to be charged alot for something that was good but not amazing.
Great service, great food....only small issue was our reservation was pushed back 15 mins.
Always amazing food and atmosphere, service is outstanding
The meal we had at Biera was probably in my top three meals of all time. The mushroom dish blew my mind. I would go back and eat that over and over and over. The beer was great too! Biera gets a perfect score from me.
From our first connection with the server to our paying of the bill, everything was amazing! The only thing was that we couldn’t eat more! Everything that went by our table on the way to someone else looked so good! The staff were so tolerant of our asking them what everything was so we could note it down for the next time we’re there. The four dishes our group chose were beyond fabulous, I’ve never eaten food so carefully thought through and well done! Cannot wait to return!!
menu looked great but execution was off. not one dish was something either of us would order again other than maybe the duck.
I wish there were more stars! Biera exceeded my expectations and I was expecting it to be great. Booked my next reservation before I left!
Loved the laid back atmosphere and staff. The beer was all so good but my favourite was the Calmont ale. The food was outstanding and our server helped us determine the perfect number of tasting plates for our table. I highly recommend the potato pasta and the Grilled hen of the woods mushrooms. Will definitely be going back again!
My wife and I went out to Biera for our anniversary. We loved it! Great food, great beer great atmosphere. I would highly recommend going here
Our first time there, we were a bit confused where the location was . We didn’t see a BIERA sign until we went into the market. Food and service was outstanding. We will absolutely be back. The only negative was the noise level. Everything else was amazing
Love sharing plates. Love the location. Soso wine list ( wine snob). Service was great and a little let down on the beers offered in their rack. Found one I liked. Enjoy it. Great spot.
this is a hight class bear parloor if you remember the parlors from the 40 very stlish beer is king do not bother with the wine list . the tapas were very good indeed however as most beer jonts it is very noisey you cannot have a conversation
Food was great, beer selection was surprisingly average. Can't have it all, I guess
Food is unsurpassed in Edmonton . A unique dining experience , with shared plates the norm . Recommend that you go in a group and order a variety of dishes-- you can order a few at a time until you have had enough . Desserts are to die for. Service was good , but a variety of servers came to the table and while all were competent , helpful and cheerful, a few times we were left alone for too long.
Biera has wonderfully delicious food. Every dish was amazing, and for an upscale restaurant it wasn't overly expensive. Everything is to share which is great because you get to try everything! It wasn't overly filling and I didn't feel bloated after eating there and that was a bonus. I didn't enjoy the beer, I got their 'Cheeky Christine' which I was expecting to taste a little more fruity, but it was very bitter.
I like the look of the restaurant, it's very modern and geometric and pleasing to the eye. It's a little small but they didn't seem to overbook themselves so it wasn't a big issue.
This is probably the best restaurant in Edmonton. When I go to other top places, I’m impressed, but at Biera I am astonished and overjoyed.
Best meal i have had in a very long time. The chefs are masterful in blending tastes and the service is very attentive.
Food was fantastic & great atmosphere.
This was once again a fabulous experience!! The food is out of this world!
Always great food and interesting ciders and wines. Beers are a given but there is something for everyone on the list The dishes we always order and never fail are the tartare, the endives, the squid, and the chicken...all so interesting and delicious.
Innovative sharing plates and great beers from Blind Enthusiasm Brewing Company. We saved room for dessert and were happily surprised by not-too-sweet concoctions.
The food was amazing - very unique and surprisingly large portions for small plates. Service was also fantastic.
Noise level was a bit loud so would not recommend for an intimate dining experience. Will be returning again!
2nd time here. Mushrooms, squid and squash were amazing. So good! Had the sourdough with bone marrow butter, loved it the first time, this time the bread was overtoasted for my liking. I will go back again. One of my favourite places to eat now.
The steak tartare was the best I’ve had! And their sourdough is always awesome.
Worst restaurant experience I’ve ever had. I was there to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday. We were at the restaurant for 2.5 hours and watched tables turnaround twice. Long wait for food - 45-50 minutes from the 2nd to 3rd dish. Hen of the woods mushroom too salty so sent it back. Server Dana did not regularly check in to explain the delay or lack of service. So we were left wondering why the surrounding tables were getting all of their food when we weren’t. After I spoke to Assistant GM he agreed to comp some of the meal including a birthday dessert; however we left incredibly disappointed with the service and food, especially since Biera is apparently the #1 restaurant in Edmonton per Avenue Magazine.
My favourite restaurant.
Menu changes regularly so can't recommend anything specific but it is perfection every time we go.
My wife and I finally made it to BIERA for dinner. Our service was friendly and knowledgeable about the food and drinks. The drinks were very good but the food will bring us back for sure. One of the dishes we tried was the "hen of the woods". The last time a mushroom impressed my wife was in 2010, this one was special. We look forward to coming back to make sure the kitchen is on it's game.
I’ve been to BIERA 8 times so this represents a composite review.
The food is excellent, both delicious and unique.
The setting is modern, bright and lively.
Unfortunately the service is the restaurants achilles heal. Servers are inattentive, uninformed, inexperienced and largely apathetic which sadly detracts from the overall dining experience.
Out first time there and we really enjoyed the flavours. Presentation was great and our server was lovely
The vegetables/vegetarian selections were top
Really good food and service . The pork shoulder is excellent
