BIERA - Ritchie Market
Innovative sharing plates and great beers from Blind Enthusiasm Brewing Company. We saved room for dessert and were happily surprised by not-too-sweet concoctions.
2nd time here. Mushrooms, squid and squash were amazing. So good! Had the sourdough with bone marrow butter, loved it the first time, this time the bread was overtoasted for my liking. I will go back again. One of my favourite places to eat now.
The steak tartare was the best I’ve had! And their sourdough is always awesome.
Worst restaurant experience I’ve ever had. I was there to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday. We were at the restaurant for 2.5 hours and watched tables turnaround twice. Long wait for food - 45-50 minutes from the 2nd to 3rd dish. Hen of the woods mushroom too salty so sent it back. Server Dana did not regularly check in to explain the delay or lack of service. So we were left wondering why the surrounding tables were getting all of their food when we weren’t. After I spoke to Assistant GM he agreed to comp some of the meal including a birthday dessert; however we left incredibly disappointed with the service and food, especially since Biera is apparently the #1 restaurant in Edmonton per Avenue Magazine.
My favourite restaurant.
Menu changes regularly so can't recommend anything specific but it is perfection every time we go.
My wife and I finally made it to BIERA for dinner. Our service was friendly and knowledgeable about the food and drinks. The drinks were very good but the food will bring us back for sure. One of the dishes we tried was the "hen of the woods". The last time a mushroom impressed my wife was in 2010, this one was special. We look forward to coming back to make sure the kitchen is on it's game.
I’ve been to BIERA 8 times so this represents a composite review.
The food is excellent, both delicious and unique.
The setting is modern, bright and lively.
Unfortunately the service is the restaurants achilles heal. Servers are inattentive, uninformed, inexperienced and largely apathetic which sadly detracts from the overall dining experience.
Out first time there and we really enjoyed the flavours. Presentation was great and our server was lovely
The vegetables/vegetarian selections were top
Really good food and service . The pork shoulder is excellent
The food and service was amazing! We were a party of 3 and after sharing 3 plates and 2 desserts were comfortably full. We'll be back for sure!
Great food and service.... Noise level is high but not sure what can be done about that. Biera has become one of our favourite restaurants! Never disappoints.
We had a wonderful dinner at Biera. The food and beer is amazing. Great friendly service and the atmosphere is excellent. Thank you to all at Biera for a wonderful evening.
The atmosphere and decor is great, the food even better.
The food is wonderful. The beer was a little disappointing for a brewery, though. No IPA? What?
Biera is a very unique place to eat with the sharing plates ideas. Well worth the visit to taste their excellent food and try something new.
The food was delicious and interesting. Everything is always so fresh and wonderfully presented. The beer was very good and the evening we were there they had a special gin and homemade tonic.
Four friends celebrating a birthday! As always it was a great choice for dinner! The food was delicious, creative and thoroughly enjoyable! Our server was outstanding.....knowledgeable, professional and attentive at all the right times. This is a place we always look forward to!
Great food and excellent service.
The risotto and sourdough bites with beer cheese are a must. You don't have to order, but why do you hate yourself?
Sharing appetizers were a 12/10 - mains were decent - awful wine list - nice staff
The food is out of the ordinary, and extremely delicious! Server was knowledgeable on the menu and all the beer - she made superb recommendations. Can't wait to return.
It was a lovely evening and was our first time to Biera. We enjoyed the food, drinks and atmosphere. Well done Biera!
Biera was excellent! When we first sat down we weren't overly impressed only because about 3 servers had walked by our table without acknowledging us. After about 10 minutes I asked a server walking by our table if we had a server and after checking for us she apologized because she overlooked her section and was actually serving us. To make up for the time we sat without anyone talking to us the manager came over and introduced himself and took care of our first round of drinks.
From then on the evening was fantastic. Food was really really good. I would definitely go back!
Yes, but on a Friday night it got a bit loud for holding decent conversation.
Great food and beer! Very creative menu!
Great experience at Biera! Food and service was fantastic. Size of the proportions was a bit bigger than most tapas-style restaurants, but it worked out better than it usually does for me. Great dishes all around, and the Pork dish was by far the best. We will definitely be coming back to Biera in the future.
Love this place wish they will change the menu more often. Maybe because we come too often????
Fantastic food and fantastic service! The table for our reservation was a little late and the restaurant went beyond what was needed to apologize. Comped a bottle of wine and a couple appetizers while we waited. And the food was worth the wait.
This was my second time at Biera. The room and ambience is wonderful. The noise level this time seemed somewhat overbearing as loud chatter echoes quite badly within the space making it very hard to hear people at our own table. The food was mostly delicious but our group felt that some dishes were underwhelming or much too salty which was a bit of a disappointment over my great first time experience there.
So much fun and amazing menu. Wanted to order everything
Second time I've been to Biera, had highly recommended it for a girls' night dinner. The food was disappointing, certainly not the same experience I had last year, really salty. Not sure I'd go back.
At last, I made it to Biera! And it was certainly worth the wait! The service was fantastic (I appreciate that they offer still or sparkling water free of charge, a small but appreciated gesture!) and the meal was unique and delicious. I also enjoyed my beer so much I brought home a growler! The most challenging part of my visit was deciding what to order! I look forward to returning!
Everything we tried was amazing! Hostess, and waitress we're friends and knowledgeable.
2 of us tried 4 plates. ( Maybe next time we would just have 3, we were very full)
I found the winter salad to be too salty and barely took two bites of it. I let our server know but he didn’t seem to care. Wasted money there. Wouldn’t recommend ordering it.
The pork shoulder and duck were delicious and I would order again.
The time given for our reservation was a little tight and we were a bit rushed at the end.
We shared 5 plates, I thought it expensive especially for the 2 slices of sourdough bread. They had no tea selection I had a choice of peppermint or a chai latte only. The duck was fantastic but the carrots were so so. It was ok but have had much better.
the vegetable dishes were good the protiens terrible. Over cocked, tough not good. Very expensive, would not go again. If your a vegetarian probably ok but still really really expensive for what you get
The concept of 'shared plates' is an interesting dining experience. Everyone is able and usually willing to share their impressions of the food. It makes for interesting and fun interaction. So much better than the 'shared plates' in Asian restaurants where everything comes at once and it is soon difficult to isolate and distinguish the various tastes.
Some of the tastes were exquisite (e.g. the mushrooms in bouillon) but others not so great (e.g. chicken and cabbage [?] where the chicken was grisly). Sourdough bread was marvelous.
Noise level was pretty high but I was pleased to see so many people there at a neighbourhood restaurant on a weekday evening.
A great addition to the local food scene.
Great food, yet again. Love the sharing plates.
Great beers, interesting wines and ciders, and unreal food. Great place that is worthy of the buzz.
Biera is an amazing fine dining in a casual setting restaurant. The European influenced menu paired with the in-house brewery and wine makes this a surefire combo for any occasion.
