Too expensive for what you get!!!! I ordered the pumpkin gnocchi entre, not much on the plate and they were hard in the middle!!! Disappointing at best!!! I guest getting a Pizza is OK!
Came here with a large group for a birthday dinner. Everything from service to food was fantastic. Female waitress (with a Libra bday) was outstanding.
We had great root vegetables, eggplant parmesan pizza, and friendly service. We look forward to more beer and fun at Birroteca.
Unfortunately we were stuck in a small room with a birthday celebration going on. The large crowd there for the birthday was very loud throughout the evening. But that wasn't the biggest issue. We had four adults who ordered four entrees. Every one of them arrived at a different time. I get the "family style" service idea, but sharing large portions isn't an excuse for delivering each entree at a different time. Two of the orders were pasta dishes that weren't particularly large servings anyway. One of our party ordered a pizza. We all understood that a pizza may take longer to cook. Fine, but why not cook the other entrees in a manner that will allow all meals to be delivered at once? The "family style" argument sounds like an excuse for poor kitchen management.
This was a birthday lunch with 2 of my sons who have October birthdays. We'd tried to get a dinner reservation a couple of years ago, but the place is so popular that didn't work out. I'm glad we made it for a lunch, because it worked perfectly and we were able to include my 2yro grandson. He gave his approval to the Mac and Cheese, while my S.O. loved her omelette; and my sons and I enjoyed pizza - margherita and spicy Italian. The Brussel Sprouts and Eggplant French Fry appetizers were a universal hit. My sons and I also enjoyed beers from a rather extensive selection. Service was quite good and prices are moderate. Now, to find another reason to visit soon!
Went for the wild boar pappardelle and it was good, but there wasn’t nearly enough sauce.
Desserts were delicious.
The hostess was amazing! However, our server was nowhere to be found most of the night and our entrees came out 20 minutes after others in our party. Server was nice but not attentive
Unfortunately, there was a very noisy family seated near us. That, and the noise made by dishes being carried about, made it hard to converse. We changed our table and the waitress seemed annoyed with us. Not our best dining experience there.
Horribly loud - why is everyone yelling - including the bartender?? It’s as though everyone is trying to prove they’re having a “gay ol’ time.” Not a senior citizen here but god, it’s jarring how loud it is. Avoid if you intend to have a discussion. Sat 4 of us at a “communal table” though was told we would be the only ones there - I had made a reservation. We were soon joined by another couple whose competing attempt at a conversation made the experience altogether annoying. Food was good. Wine list needs help.
Ordered the mussels as appetizer which were not very fresh. Had a smell so sent them back and ordered a pizza.
Our waitress was terrific. Service was really good. The food was OK.
What a great find! We needed a place with great food, yet not far from Loyola, that we could depend on for reservations. Food was amazing and ambiance was unique and fun! We will be back!
This place was amazing! Invited friends and family here after my fiancé and I got engaged and more people showed up than initially planned. Reservation was for 8 and 12 people ended up showing up and they were super accommodating and made it work. The good was delicious, there ended up being something for everyone in our big group which had some picky eaters.
Food took a long time, waiter did apologize though. (Repeatedly) Food was fresh and good, although I didn’t find any of the boar meat in my dish.
Awesome food. Very loud so its difficult to talk. Service is a bit slow but professional
It was our first time and it won't be our last. Everything was terrific from the time we arrived until the time we left. They have Happy Hour specials at the bar from 5-7, but we wanted the restaurant experience and we got it. The staff was knowledgeable and very attentive. They have a nice group of menu items and it was tough to decide. We watched what other tables got and we decided to start with an bowl of mussels. They were delicious. They were all opened nicely. They were served 8n a sweet garlic sauce with pieces of hard crusted bread pieces in the bottom soaking up all the liquid. They were so good we almost ate the shells. Looking around we noticed the pizzas. We ordered the mushroom pizza. I am sure you won't go wrong with any choice. The pizza was as good as any we could
Wonderful atmosphere, the food was delicious. Our server was very informative and helpful.
Always delicious with excellent service! A bit turned off when I booked 1 week ahead of time for my mother in law’s birthday and when we got there we were told that the only seating was either high top in bar or outside on a cool night. My in laws are 76 years old and the noise, bar scene, and cold temps were not going to work. We were eventually accommodated in main dining room but not sure why those were only seating available until we insisted
Delicious food. Service was excellent like always!
The food is always amazing. But something weird happened. In my reservation, I left a note that it was my wife's 40th. I wasn't expecting anything, but if they had a policy of doing something special I wanted to make sure to have the full Birroteca experience for this occasion. So, when we arrived, the hostess discreetly asked me if my wife prefers red or white wine. I told her red, and thanked her. I assumed they would just pour her a glass of red to celebrate. Instead, to our surprise, they brought an entire bottle of Malbec to the table. Sooo generous. However, when the bill came, they charged us $20 for the bottle. The waiter then assured us this was the "birthday rate." So. For my wife's birthday they forced us to buy a bottle of red wine that we didn't choose, nor would we have ordered wine with our dinners. We didn't complain, but certainly wanted to bring it to the attention of future diners looking to celebrate in style. You may want to tell them that you don't want to take advantage of their "birthday rate."
This restaurant was nestled at the bottom of a hill in a very quite neighborhood. The people were very professional and welcoming. The waitor was very knowledgeable and provided options on menu items. The food was spectacular. I would definitely go back again.
Great find in Hampden. Great variety on the menu with some very tasty options. I’ll be back.
Excellent food. Excellent service. Our waitress was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly and the pizza and cauliflower appetizer we got were outstanding.
The dining room was extremely loud and difficult to hear conversation even when leaning in across the table.
The pizza was okay....Is Verde still open?
Always a good time at Birroteca. We always love the food and had great service.
One of my favorite restaurants. Sad the lamb was unavailable, though.
Poor service, over priced small portions of average at best food. Loud... very loud. Cramped to the point waitstaff and patrons had issues getting around. This is a place I definitely would not give a second chance.
Our first visit, service was and food were good and well worth the trip into Baltimore. Their Calamari is a must and pizza. Our new Favorite place.
Great place to take my parents + boyfriend's parents to meet for the first time! Thanks for the great service + food!
Lovely sitting outside! Our waitress was a little timid but very nice
we are long-time customers but hadn't visited in several months. Apparently there is a new chef and a lot of things have changed. The pizza, wood used to be thin crust and blistered nicely with a delicious sauce, is now something you might find in the freezer section of your grocery store with a huge hard tasteless crust. They have changed the kind of produce they use, a cheap bag salad blend for their kale instead of the good stuff they used to use,the dressing was tasteless and needed seasoning as did the sauce on the pizza. We did enjoy the brussel sprouts appetizer, but we're so disappointed in the rest of our meal that we probably won't be returning. In addition, and this is as important to us as the meal, the bathrooms were filthy and smelled terribly. If I were in a booth next to the bathroom, I would certainly ask to be moved. we don't know why these changes were made, because this was a place we used to go to at least once a week.
Mixed, at best. The mussels appetizer was quite not nice. Then there was a loooong wait until our lamb entree. The risotto and lamb were very tasty, but completely lacking any vegetables, so we had to order Brussels sprouts. Salty, oily, crispy, with too little prosciutto. The peach flan, after another loooong wait, was TERRIBLE. The peach slices were rock hard. It’s August, high season for meltingly ripe peaches. How is this even possible?? The flan itself... wasn’t. Sort’ve a pudding, I guess, but not a flan. All in all, not the meal I was hoping for at all!
We enjoy the unique menu offerings and the excellent service, but [a small but] the place is too noisy.....
Food is excellent. Service was slow and the bar area was quite loud. Expensive overall but the food is very good.
Are usually have a really good time at this restaurant. However at this time despite making reservations We were placed at the worst table in the restaurant. We were informed that our table could not be switch because a larger party would be expected at the next table. The large party turned out to be four. We were also. When I spoke to the young woman at the front desk she became defensive instead have attempting to address situation. We were forced to sit next to the four young women who have very little to do that evening and listen to them talk about absolutely nothing. Wonderful evening crashed.
Great dinner, food and ambiance! Will definitely be returning next time I am in Baltimore! Thanks
Ordered drinks, pizza & rack of lamb to share.
Drinks okay. Old Fashion, very good though small.
Fig & Thyme Vodka drink very sweet and weak overall.
Really enjoyed eating, drinking and creating a crossword puzzle with pencils provided on the paper tablecloth.
Rack of ribs came out. Server suggested medium rare and we typically enjoy lamb at that temperature. As the tray came closer, a putrid smell wafted across the table. The plate was set before us (family style entree) and it was bloody to the point that the risotto had small puddles of blood when we moved the chops. We braved the smell, which we dismissed as simply gamey. Upon first bite, both of us literally spit the meat out. Then spit the spit out. When he came back we asked the server to take it away. He asked if we wanted to reorder. No. Just the check. After paying $48 for a pizza and two drinks, the server basically said, ‘goodbye.’ Incredulous, we asked if the manager or chef had examined the meat and if anyone was going to talk to us. He seemed surprised and went to get someone. A young woman came out a moment later and introduced herself as the manager. She offered no apology. Instead she launched into the fact that this is Australian lamb and smells very strong. Then proceeded to tell is she tasted the meat and it was fine. The real problem is that “lamb isn’t steak and we had ordered it medium rare. We probably would have enjoyed it if cooked medium.”
We were incredulous & said nothing but “okay, thank you.” She then said “I mean what do you want us to do? Do you want a desert or something?” We declined and left.
We are fine diners & had been to Birroteca back when it was the hot new spot. That is why we chose it for an anniversary, as we had had nice times there. Getting a bad dish, is forgivable. But the nasty fast-food level management is befitting of a tired dying restaurant under a slummy bridge in Baltimore. Look for a for sale soon.
Fun night out with friends. The food was fabulous. A few people mentioned that their servings were small and were still a bit hungry. We think that maybe they were served restaurant week servings even though they didn’t order from the restaurant week menu.
Our server seemed annoyed with us from the beginning. Bar service was great (we had a drink before we were seated).
The lighting was a bit dim but otherwise the atmosphere was enjoyable.
