Birroteca - Baltimore
My wife and I went for the first time this weekend, and we were quite impressed. The beer selection is fantastic, both the bruschetta starter options on the menu that night were delicious, and the pizza - fennel sausage - which we shared, was the best we've had in the city. The host and waiter were friendly, attentive, and competent, and the cozy atmosphere of the dining room was pleasant. I recommend getting a reservation: We went on Sunday, fairly early, and there weren't too many people there. But we had first tried, without a reservation, the previous Saturday, and the place was packed.
We have typically had near perfect experiences here. The food was great but service was a little off. Our main courses arrived very late and we would’ve been ok with that had the waiter checked on us to realize that our food had not arrived. I attempted to let him know about our long wait ( 2 tables had turned over) but he seemed to be avoiding me as I past him on my way to the bathroom.
Service was slow, but overall it was a very pleasant dinner, Thank you and keep up the good work
Jason our server was outstanding and very personable and knowledgeable about the wines and menu recommendations. The apps were on point as well as the pizzas....the bottles of wine that Jason suggested went superbly with the pizzas!
Happy party of 5
As always, the food was exceptional. We shared a steak for 2 and it was perfectly cooked. SErvice was attentive without being intrusive.
Our group of 7 had a fantastic experience at Birroteca on Sunday March 10. Delicious food, all of which arrived quickly, at reasonable prices. Most notable was our server, Jason, who couldn't have been better.
He truly made us feel like valued regulars....which we were not, but now plan on becoming.
Love this restaurant..great food easy parking. Service was wonderful
Jason is the best waiter in all of Baltimore. Birroteca is our favorite place to go for great food. Our server took it up a notch with his great service, great conversation and just overall a great person. So refreshing given all the negativity you hear about these days. Just wanted to take the time to give much deserved positive feedback.
Over the last year something must’ve changed. We ordered the duck and it was barely lukewarm which is fine if the price point is way lower but at $36 it’s not even remotely worth it. The octopus was decent but the broccoliraab was completely over cooked and again, lukewarm at best. Some positive points go to the waitress who was really friendly and we left her a 20% tip nonetheless as it wasn’t her fault! We used to eat here a lot 2 years ago and always had a good meal. We’re of the mind that we don’t mind spending $200 for dinner if it’s good but hate spending $100 for bad food
Fabulous dinner!! Best dinner I've had in a restaurant in recent memory! We'll be returning again soon.
Food is too salty but otherwise yummy. Great menu and ambiance.
Based on the last visit I am not sure that I would recommend Birroteca to another diner. The service was a C minus. While the food is tasty it isn't worth the price. You can find a better value at othe restaurants in the city.
Excellent menu, perfectly prepared food! The grilled Octopus and roast duck were outrageously delicious 😋
Great food and the best service in a long time. Our server, Riley, was so attentive and friendly. She gave my husband a very good description of the charcuterie choices. Will definitely return!
My daughter’s spaghetti sauce was so salty it was not edible. A kids’ plain cheese pizza was also way over salted. The pasta was served in a pool of oil and water that I had to pour off into a dish on the table. The chopped salad was mostly fried chickpea and hardly any salad for sharing. The plates were supposed to be family sized but the pasta bolognese wasn’t enough to share. Overall, very expensive for the quality.
We always have a wonderful time here. The place is beautiful, the food is delicious, and the staff is wonderful. Thank you!
I have been to Birroteca twice before (both in Baltimore and Harford County) and thought their pizza was delicious. However, I was very disappointed during this last visit. Pizza tasted like nothing but dry dough...if I was blindfolded I would be hard pressed to describe the ingredients that were on it. That is how bland it was. Also, it was served barely warm. Birroteca is being removed from my list of places to go for good artisanal pizza. Waitress was very attentive and pleasant. Ice cream was good (although order was wrong due to "kitchen staff being trained").
We had to wait for at least 30 minutes before ordering our food, which was very good.
This was my second visit to this restaurant. The first time, I found it to be very loud with just decent food. Nothing had changed when I returned. Our waitress was very attentive at first; and then practically ignored us, walking past our table many times without checking on us. She never asked if our entrees were to our liking. I had to flag her down to ask for parmesan cheese for my pasta. Our appetizers arrived 10 minutes apart. My husband asked for an iced tea and she never brought it to him. My entree was very bland. For the amount of money we spent, I would say we had a very average experience. The only reason I would recommend it to someone is if they are looking for a crowded bar.
I love the food at Birroteca. We gave been going there since the soft opening. It's pricey, and the only real problem is perennial, and unsolvable; it can be very loud. But we will continue to go because we like it so much.
Birrotecca is one of our favorites in the Baltimore area. We have always had great experiences and continue to come back for the great food (esp the Duck Duck Goose pizza and Brussel Sprouts!), extensive beer and wine selection, consistent service and overall atmosphere. We will be back soon!
Loud. Get there early. The food was okay, but expensive.
Would recommend to friend - probably not!
The food was bland, cold when is should be warm, overcooked when it should have been just right, the service was glacially slow and the room was loud! The clam & pasta dish was cold, soggy pasta, small clams still in the shell no dish for the empty shells. I asked the busboy for a dish for the clam shells and unfortunately for me - he didn't speak the language so trying to be polite we just starred at either othr.
I have never eaten at a restaurant that has one type of Chardonnay by the glass - which wasn't very good!
This was a serious disappointment - we will not go back any time soon!
Always delicious and fun at birroteca. The only complaint is that one of our friends who has a severe allergy to red pepper, told the waitress that and we chose based on her knowledge of what didn’t have red pepper. But one of our pizzas clearly did. Just think the staff needs to be more vigilant about food allergies. But will not keep us from coming back!
Delicious thin crust pizza, actually more like a round flatbread. Interesting tasty salad with kale and farro. The cauliflower appetizer with lemon aioli was my favorite dish. The restaurant was crowded and noisy. I recommend this restaurant and plan on returning.
To start we were sat 3 inches away from another couple in the corner. Our server took 10 minutes to come over. Once you brought over our drinks she was juggling 3 bottles. Our charcuterie took 20 minutes to come out. Not sure why cheese takes 20 minutes. Our 20oz strip was cold when we got our food after taking an additional 30 minutes. Our server was not knowledgeable and had other servers take care of us. They did not give me a new glass for a different wine, very unprofessional. Would have stayed for dessert if it wasn’t for the terrible wait time for everything. Would not recommend if you are looking to go on a date or any special occasion.
Have gone to both locations before. Food is amazing! Great wine selection too.
Something needs to be done to dampen the noise. My ear drums hurt this morning.
Reserved a high top table. Was told upon arrival that they were "overbooked on high top tables due to a problem with Open Table". This was as there were 2 tables available. We spoke to the manager, and he did seat us at a 4 person high top table. While we dined, every table in our section, and 1 in the larger high top table section, was vacated. I'm not sure why they were trying to seat us elsewhere, except that perhaps they were trying to give other servers the business. But to blame it on the "system" and start our experience at Birrotecca that way was frustrating. That being said, our server was amazing and the food overall good.
The food was really good quality however somewhat overpriced for a limited menu. Our table was not ready when we arrived for our reservation and we had to wait over 45 minutes for our food after ordering.
Friday the 15th we had 5:30 reservations.I ordered lamb chops that sat on top of risotto, the risotto was super under seasoned and mush due to being over cooked and lamb chop juices. A friend ordered the mussels, there wasn’t any broth in the bowl and they were extremely fishy. The waitress handled it very well. She brought us a small side plate of risotto and that dish was so salty you couldn’t eat it...the mussels were taken off the bill...my wife and I go there often and this time we brought 3 friends with us and sat on the bar side high top. We had talked up Birroteca and they drove a good ways to meet us there. So to say the least we were super disappointed.
Thanks for taking the time to read this
It’s a date
Fits all criteria!
Food and atmosphere here is great; but, the knock off sodas and lack of brand name beer is less than desirable and really detracts from the overall potential. The Pinot Noir on he menu was awful!
Great food and craft beers. Temps outside we're very cold, we sat on outside wall and it was chilly at the table. Really aggravates when servers don't write orders down and than forget or bring wrong foods. They made it up to us though. Overall good place, been there many times. I'd recommend.
This is an interesting restaurant with good food. In the winter there is a big problem... Because they haven't invested in a double door, the whole downstairs is cold... And it gets colder everyone someone walks in. I had to wear my coat during dinner. Waited a long time for food (first appetizer) to come out and entree came before one of the other appetizers. They apologized and said it was"family style." The lamb chops were nothing special although the risotto was great. Appetizers were fantastic. The restaurant is a bit pricey.
A really fine experience! Service was friendly and efficient. The mussels were among the best I have ever had.
Food and service were great. Restaurant was a little cold, drafty inDining room.
Except for being chilly inside, it was a nice experience. Appetizers were great!
When we arrived we were shown to a table right next to a family with young children, I mean within 18 inches. We asked for another table and was told that we could not be accommodated. We said we were willing to sit at the bar and at that point, we were on our own. The bar also was reserving places for patrons arriving an hour later but the bartenders graciously tried to accommodate us. Service was great from that point on although all of our food was delivered at once rather than being staggered a bit.
