Bistro Hatzu is located in the West End, a vibrant neighbourhood in downtown Vancouver. At Hatzu, we provide Japanese-inspired cuisine covering a range of authentic to fusion dishes. In Japanese, the word hatsu means “first,” and we chose it for our name to symbolize the importance we place on first impressions. The moment you first walk into our friendly setting, your first sight of our beautifully crafted dishes, the first flavour to captivate your mouth; with all these firsts, we hope to create an inviting and memorable dining experience for you.

I enjoyed the Call 911 roll and the Sushi Pizza! The sushi pizza "crust" was very crunchy but i like how it wasn't hard.

Even though the restaurant was only 1/4 full on a Thursday night, the service was slow due to only 2 servers working and it took us 30 minutes for someone to finally take our order. The menu was trying to be a “jack of all trades but master of none” with strange fusion combinations. The food arrived within a reasonable amount of time but was underwhelming and tasted unauthentic. Especially the sushi which was unevenly rolled and sliced too thin, breaking apart as soon as the piece touched the soya sauce. Obviously not made by a real Japanese sushi chef. This would be the first Japanese sushi restaurant I’ve ever seen which didn’t have a sushi bar and the sushi was prepared out of the kitchen. Thus the value of the food was not worth the price. Disappointed, I would not return or recommend as there are a multitude of other better choices in Vancouver.

The food was very delicious and super tasty. They used fresh ingredients. I just wish that they gave more crackers for the tuna poke tartar. There was a good portion of the tuna poke but they only gave 3 melba toast-like crackers.
