Bistro Sakana is located in Vancouver, British Columbia and offers a menu of delicious Japanese food, both traditional and innovative. There are also dishes with a fusion of Japanese and Italian or French influences. Vancouvers largest list of premium cold sake is at Bistro Sakana, and you can enjoy beer and wine, as well.
Bistro Sakana has many great menus showcasing many types of foods. You can enjoy sushi, nigiri, sashimi, lunch, tapas, dessert and drinks. The lunch menu has an assortment of options for a great price so you can try something new and exciting. One of the most popular offerings on the nigiri menu is the assorted tempura with tiger prawn and vegetable tempura served with a sweet and tangy dipping sauce.
japanese style pan-fried dumplings, stuffed with pork, garlic, and veggies, 6 pieces

One of the best Japanese restaurants that I have ever dined. Lots of variety, it can be difficult to choose what to order.
Service is very good and we were treated like royalty.
The sushi nigiri is the best. Blue Fin and king salmon all the way!! To my surprise this place does really good cocktails as they really nail the flavors.
The only negative thing is that they over do it with the Plexiglass.
Best quality Japanese food in the city! Patio set up is awesome and good Covid protocols being adhered to
FABULOUS! We wanted omakase and they didn’t have the usual omakase, but they added some extra sushi and sashimi to the 3 course dinner and it was FABULOUS. Everything was so good. I was happy to get to try more than the sushi (but the sushi was also incredible).
Overall positive experience and we enjoyed the dine out selection.
The service was terrible. They were serving the plates laying over to of the guest in one side of the table , even with enough space to serve each guest properly ,that guest was often laying back to allow them to pass the food to the people in the other side of the table -No social distance either . The training for the servers wasn't in-existent . We ordered a bottle of wine and they didin't even know how serve wine. The place is like a more high end sushi place but the foods isn't what it used to be, was lacking flavor. I suggested the restaurant , not sure the other 3 people will go again
Went for dineout - sushi was amazing, some of the hot dishes in the bento were cold and a little lackluster. Still tasted great. Ambience inside was nice, patio was comfortable. Would go back for just the sushi. Friendly service but blatantly trying to upsell when they could.
Always amazing food and service - def the best sushi in the city
The hamachi salad is amazing!!!!!!! Aburi sushi is a must! Cocktail are nice too but a little bit expensive
Hands down the best sushi place in Yaletown and great value.
It was a great experience for us with delicious Japanese foods.
Bistro Sakana is consistently excellent. The staff are great and always happy to try and accommodate your requirements. The food is outstanding. It is a relaxed place to eat and overall great value.
Wanted to love Bistro Sakana, but wasn't off to a good start when our server told us about 1/2 of the menu items we wanted to order were sold out. Not sure if this was due to Covid or other supply issues, but my wife and I started to get a little embarrassed about ordering off the menu as we started playing "will they say it's sold-out?" when ordering. Our server was pretty good and attentive.
Not a great anniversary experience. The food we did get was good (as we expect sushi in Vancouver should be), but didn't really blow us away. We've been to other establishments with better and more consistent offerings for about the same price.
Don't think we'll be back.
All the dishes are very good! Fish are fresh!!
Maybe due to the pandemic, the restaurant was a little quiet.
All the servers wear masks, very friendly service!!
Great hospitality! Service was also efficient, good recommendations. I got an extra dish to go so I could have it for breakfast
A nice casual restaurant that always has fresh fish and specialties brought in from Japan. I've been here many times and never had a bad meal. The patio is nice as well.
One of the best hidden gem sushi joints in all of Vancouver!
Bistro sakana was the first restaurant we went to dine out during COVID and we were seated in their heated patio. The dining experience was positive and we had no concerns. The day we went though, they were out of mint so no mojito and no brussell sprouts.
Excellent service, excellent fresh and premium quality fish, all combined with stellar customer customer service. Excellent value, a wonderful experience. I always have an amazing lunch and dinner at Bistro Sakana! Thank you to the Bistro Sakana workers!
Good service. Wide selection of menu, relatively reasonably priced. Food was great. Thanks.
The food was Ok but not amazing for the high price
Tempura spot prawns were simply amazing. Chef's choice - a good idea.
The food is always excellent. Our favourite is definitely the Omakase for Sashimi for 2. The drink menu is also a highlight with a decent selection of drinks.
I must say the service has greatly improved. I remember a mean Korean server that used to work there that acted like she was the owner.
The prices are not cheap but this is yaletown and you get what you pay for in quality.
Service was very responsive. All of the food was excellent
We love this restaurant- best Japanese in Vancouver
I love this restaurant. The restaurant has a quiet atmosphere and plenty of choices on the menu.
Everyone in this restaurant is so friendly. They offer sanitizer before the meal.
Above all: I used to complain about the super rude lady host. Super treat that she wasn’t working today. We were all so happy. Yah!!!
Love this place, food is so good, service is excellent! Great choice for date night, friends get together, and just everyday dining also!
Fresh! tasty! great service. love this place. .....
Still offered full menu during these unusual times. Food was delicious but small in portions. Server was friendly but the service was all awkward due to the unfamiliarity with the new policies. Offered hand sanitizer and saw them cleaning tables thoroughly. One suggestion would be try to minimize number of servers coming to the table (designate a person).
Amazing food and great service! Wish the portions were a bit bigger, but quality was outstanding!
Top quality sushi with superb service
We had a fabulous meal. Everything was delicious
We are regulars at Bistro Sakana and it is always very good, however the service can be hit and miss and on this occasion the service was definitely less than great. Not so bad as to deter us from coming again but for such a good place like this, it’d be nice if the service was as high quality as the food.
Rolls are terrible!!
Service is the highlight of the restaurant. The Japanese fishes are the best here. The rolls however, are the worst.
The avocado falls apart on the caterpillar roll, the crispy rolls are not crispy, The spicy rolls with no spice inside them and rather they are on the side. The presentation is even worse as they look like supermarket rolls trying to be upscale. A messy black sauce drawing on a black plate topped with messy rolls.
Food is unique and tasty. The wagyu stone grill was tender and marbling. The atmosphere is relaxing and beautiful.
Food is Always great. Service is always a bit strange. The tables seem to be attended by multiple servers and not a dedicated one. I think at some point someone decided it’d be more efficient but it clearly isn’t. The service is typically always a mess. I come back due to the food quality but the front of house team needs a proper manager
It was a great experience. Their course menu is wonderful! Will be coming again soon.
The food is amazing!! Some of the best Japanese food in Vancouver (and there is a lot). The tables are crammed together so be ready to overhear everything your neighbours have to say as well. But the food makes the overcrowding easier to deal with.
Bistro Sakana is a wonderful Japanese restaurant in Yaletown serving fresh fish from Toyosu fish market in Tokyo. Their menu is quite extensive, including omakase and the quality of their sushi is top notch. We enjoy sitting by the sushi bar to see the sushi chefs at work, marvelling at their attention to detail. Our favourite is the gindara aburi sushi. Everything they serve is fresh, and they take pride in their craft, as can be seen in their presentation. All the servers are polite and accommodating. The restaurant is small, and the space is tight. It’s probably best to order a little bit at a time, as there isn’t much real estate on the table for all the food you want to order. The washroom is shared with the restaurant next door, which is not ideal, as there is only two washrooms and you need to go out of the restaurant with a key.
I haven't been here for awhile for business reasons and I was hyped to revisit my favourite all time Japanese restaurant. While most food here is pretty good, I can recognize that they now have a non Japanese sushi chef. His rolls just seem to fall apart and the presentation is simply lacking. Not only that the Salmon Aburi which used to be so popular here has become very mediocre. The Toro Aburi has especially become worse.
I used to come here three times a week and spend hundreds just for some salmon and toro aburi and Japanese fish.
As a positive note the ambiance and service is good.
