   We specifically ordered appetizers and asked to start with. They brought out main out the which was sashimi then hit apps at the same time When confronted about it they laughed like somehow we were ludicrous to be asking for something that we clearly stated. Then we were told it was a language issue that the server doesn’t understand English. Then when asked for manager. They had no manager. Just sad that when you go out and spend your money that something as simple as asking for your appetizers first is a problem and you are made to feel that should just accept whatever you get. But then pay a 22% tip. Very disturbing and disappointing.

   They have a sign outside that says "Please wait to be seated" which I can totally respect given that it's a small shop. I would not have been bothered except that their staff do not pay attention to whether or not anyone is waiting outside. A couple in front of us was eventually seated and, given that we were right behind them, I assumed the hostess would return to seat us soon, especially as they were not at all busy this evening. I assumed wrong. If the hostess had seen us she quickly forgot. I had to go inside to ask if anyone would be seating us. I found this reception a bit rude. Especially given that I had to secure my reservation with a credit card on OpenTable, then wait only to be ignored. Throughout our meal the staff were mostly huddled in the furthest spot away from the door and I noticed did not seem to pay any attention to the front. Anyone who did come in, had to come through the door to get attention. So...why the sign? Maybe just put the sign out when you're busy? Otherwise, it's just keeping patrons out in the cold and putting the burden on them. The food here is good (not my first time here) but I found the service tonight to be a bit careless

   The valentine day’s surf and turf set is great value with good quality food. Most of the tables are outdoor, but heat is not strong enough. Had to keep jacket on for the entire meal. Not sure if it’s because it’s Valentine’s Day, food is served slowly.

    Love the food! Everything was so tasty! The seafood salad appetizer was really flavourful and refreshing! Engawa and black cod aburi sushi are must try! They literally melt in your mouth! The yuzu cheese cake was such a nice touch to finish the meal! Can't wait to go back!

    I always love dining at Bistro Sakana. Tried their Dine Out menu and really enjoyed it. Lovely dish selection which highlighted their expertise of proper Japanese fair. Their a la carte is on the pricier side but their fish quality is always top notch. I’ve come here for years and will continue to recommend for high quality sushi.

    Went there to try their dine out menu. They have a good vision on twisting some of the traditional Japanese dishes. However, some dishes like the hamachi in the second course is severely overcooked.

    I love Dine Out Vancouver because I get to discover new restaurants and Bistro Sakana is the best find so far! We were seated on the covered and heated patio, beside a cherry blossom tree by Koji. He proceeded to explain how the dine out menu works and offered suggestions on sake. We were blown away by the food and sake pairing. Every bite was delicious, thoughtful and nicely presented. Each sake definitely complemented the course it came with. Our server, Koji, as well as the other servers who brought the food, were friendly, attentive and efficient. The ambience was also very pleasing. The entire dining experience was so enjoyable. I will definitely be back!

    I’ve dined here for Dine Out the past two years. This year was the worst. Food portion was small. Service was poor. My friends and I left feeling hungry. I have no intention of returning.

    Bistro SakanaResponded on January 25, 2023I would like to apologize if you felt service was subpar. There is a definite learning curve and flaws in the initial stages. It would have helped to have been more vocal about it from the very beginning. I believe that it was only a table for 2 so I assume that you meant friend rather than friend(s) Cost of producing dine out has limitations and for the purpose of promotion as more of a tasting menu of quality rather a large multi course meal. Margins are very minimal if any at all.

    Great dine-out tasting menu. Very nice presentation of the food. Food tasted excellent with the sushi chef choosing the right complement and the sauce. Excellent experience watching the two sushi chefs taking pride in preparing and presenting the dishes!

    We had not been to your establishment since before Covid and were pleased to be back. We broiught friends from out of town and they thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The food and service were excellent. Always entertaining to watch the sushi chefs at work.

    Seating at the patio was beautiful, relaxing and the heater on top kept us warm even on an October night. Overall ambience was really good. The aburi was outstanding and something you must try! Rolls were decent but the aburi was much better in comparison. Will def. visit again.

    We always enjoy our visits to Bistro Sakana. My mother chose it to celebrate her 90th birthday as we had been there before and she liked it enough to go back for her special day. Both food and service excellent. Everything we ordered from salads to rolls to chawan mushi to sashimi to aburi sushi were delicious. And the servers were efficient, friendly and attentive. We sat on the outside patio which was nice. Thank you for a wonderful evening.

    Delicious sushi and sashimi omakase. The only thing I didn’t like was that we were served blue fin tuna with both courses, and I usually try to avoid it due to overfishing/ecological concerns. With that being said it was absolutely fantastic, which was akin to finding out that mountain gorilla or white rhino meat is actually delicious - a sinful treat. Otherwise, the scallop skewers and chicken kara-age were similarly beautifully made, and the service was quite good. Unfortunately we didn’t realize the dinner omakase needed to be ordered 24 hours in advance, otherwise we would have loved to try that.
