Bistro Sakana is located in Vancouver, British Columbia and offers a menu of delicious Japanese food, both traditional and innovative. There are also dishes with a fusion of Japanese and Italian or French influences. Vancouvers largest list of premium cold sake is at Bistro Sakana, and you can enjoy beer and wine, as well.
Bistro Sakana has many great menus showcasing many types of foods. You can enjoy sushi, nigiri, sashimi, lunch, tapas, dessert and drinks. The lunch menu has an assortment of options for a great price so you can try something new and exciting. One of the most popular offerings on the nigiri menu is the assorted tempura with tiger prawn and vegetable tempura served with a sweet and tangy dipping sauce.
Great restaurant. Yummy food, clean and great service
As always excellent food and service.
Food and variety including specials of the day are always exceptional.
Service is good and fast. Was a little cold on the patio
I have been to so many restaurants all over the world. Very impressed with this service and food.
Overall experience was positive. It is a nice restaurant in the heart of Yaletown. Service is a little slow, mind you it was a Friday evening. Not sure if this is the norm or a one off. The food was great and the atmosphere was nice.
A little bit on the pricey side, but again, this little bistro is in Yaletown and should be expected.
Waitress extremely hard to communicate with - they serve the wrong dishes a few times - and took some dishes away without saying anything. We missed 2 dishes - and asked them a few times and they never got back to me till 30 minutes after. They also extremely hard to communicate with.
The staff were the stars of the evening. Everyone was checking in on us to make sure we were taken care of.
Food was excellent. Great fresh sushi.
My main issue was that the tables were too small. You am barely fit the plates they provided with the glassware.
Excellent food and great service. Servers took the time to explain the menu items. I will dine here again.
Bistro Sakana is our most favourable Japanese Restaurant. We go there every 2 weeks. Sushi Chef Yama san makes the best sushi in town. Servers are very friendly and the price is very reasonable.
The only reason I’m giving 4 stars is because the service was slow and a bit lackluster. The food was incredible.
Everything was very good, I had a great time with my colleagues, we sat on the terrasse and had good food with some wine!
Excellent quality of food- the uni was spectacular. Terrific service as well. Overall a great experience and very good value.
Fast casual service at high end sushi prices. No personal attention at all. Not for us and not for anyone else in the dining room. Perhaps the sushi bar is better? I’ll never know as I won’t be returning or recommending this place. There are so many wonderful Japanese restaurants in Vancouver but this one has a great location in Yaletown with patio seating. Unfortunately the food was just average too. If you’re going to be preparing Aburi and you’re location is across from Minami, it better be as good . It wasn’t. If I’m paying a minimum of $50 per person I want personalized service!
The female Host is obnoxious rude and terrible. Non reservation was given a choice of table while a reservation has no choice!!
She doesn’t care about customer service. She is a bad example of Japanese hospitality and she just doesn’t care. Why did this place hire her????
Visit this restaurant time to time when I am in town. While this restaurant is good it is inconsistent. Won’t come back if she is here
I’d travel from my home in Chicago all the way to Yaletown just to eat here. Best sushi/sashimi around - super fresh and prepared with great care.
Most waitresses there are friendly and attentive to your needs.
Owner listened to customers feedback and is willing to change and improve their services.
The sake tastes awesome.
Fresh fish and quality is at top.
Hope they can keep it up with their standard long term.
We are loyal customers for many years :)
Our little one loves their gyoza.
We were there with friends enjoying the happy hour and their fresh menu list. It was fantastic food and drinks selection. We will be back there soon for sure.
Their food used to be much better quality, so a little disappointed at this time. The owner of chef must be changed....
The food was very good but, quite disappointed with (most of) the service.
High end pricing deserves us diners getting high end service, food and ambience. The young female servers were very inexperienced. Only the male server was able to properly look after us, especially explaining the menu items.
None the less, the dinner went ok but the experience can be so much better.
Many of the dishes were new to us. Very tasty food but hard to order for someone that does not like spicy.
Top quality sushi
We really enjoyed this restaurant with the outdoor seating and the food was fantastic. The menu is diverse and we loved sharing several of the entree options. Our teenage daughters wanted to go back for a second time before we returned to Madison.
Every time we come to Bistro Sakana is a wonderful experience!
This time I came with some friends from Japan.
The food is awesome, especially the fresh fish from Japan beautifully presented by Chef Yama.
The service was on point and everyone was very friendly.
We had such a great time! Everyone loved it!
By far the best Japanese restaurant in downtown Vancouver! Great price and high quality food. Highly recommend it!
We have been loyal customers for long time and this time we got ding for $13.5 before tax and tips for a plain udon we ordered for dinner. The pricing is wrong and the quality is not good.
There was one time previously that we were charged for extra $10. Instead of charging $4 for a piece of tuna they charge us for $14, "by mistake".
So we suggest that you please get them to repeat your order again with the price stated.
Please beware and always ask about the price when u order something that is not shown the dinner menu and please carefully check the bill and each item before you pay.
Food court quality for prime price. Waste of time and money
Excellent sushi made by Yama San.
Happy hour is worth it. Food is very delicious, but pricey & small portions. Atmosphere was quite noisy and service was slow.
Don't bother making a reservation, as they are unable to manage between walk ins and reservations. Waited over half an hour past my reservation time and others had the same issue. Only one waiter spoke fluent English and poor woman had ever server asking her what to do for every thing. The food was good, not great. Disappointed in their Aburi as it was unfavourful. I was so excited to try this place as the menu sounded great.
Great food. Bad service.
First the bad.... it's the rolls. What prevents me for giving 5 stars was that we ordered a few rolls on the side which I would not recommend. They aren't bad but they aren't on par with the rest of the food that this restaurant is serving.
Restaurant has friendly staff. I was nicely greeted and shown to my table. Had Sushi Omakase at the table which includes appetizer and with several nigiri served to you pieces at a time and a dessert. The nigiri is the best that you can have in Vancouver. The amount of Sake on the menu and incredible. Death stares all around for asking if cold sake can be served hot.
Ambiance is comfortable with air conditioning with good service to match. Keep it up!
Some of the best sushi you can find. Hidden gem in yaletown.
Definitely beats all the big name Japanese restaurants such as Masoyoshi in terms of creativity, presentation, taste, and value.
I have noticed that the best value of the restaurant is the Japanese fishes featured on the Today Special Menu. By contrast it is a better bargain than Rolls, or normal sockeye salmon and albacore.
In reality though the rolls aren't very well made. The new roll sushi chef is somewhat of a degrade from the previous.
Came here for a birthday dinner with their Sushi Omakase course, which was very fresh and delicious.
Definitely recommend trying if you like omakase.
Very friendly service and amazingly good food!
When we got the restaurant, we didn't see anybody at the front door so we hesitated to go inside for a minuet. The restaurant was almost full when we got there. Many tables were reserved. I thought Tuesday night wouldn't busy. It took time a server came to take our drink orders. Their menu is not easy to read, too crowded, I felt. Food was good.
Food very good. just be prepared to be a very tight and busy place.
One of the best experiences. It is fun to be here.
The Sake Omakase is soo interesting and full of surprises. Our group got served 5 different sake with a brief explanation.
Chef Yama San makes excellent food. Fresh fishes. Server was very friendly.
Authentic high end dining at its best. Best time to come is past 6:30 when happy hour is over with the best Sake menu. The restaurant tranforms from low end to high end instantly.
We had a business dinner after a long day and want to enjoy ourselves. The Happy hour crowd is always noisy with a lot of the younger crowd. We don’t feel comfortable spending $$$$$ in that atomosohere.
Great fresh fish, excellent service and a cozy atmosphere is what keeps me coming back. Great value as well.
