The servers are friendly and nice. We ate urchin pasta and kyudon rice I believe(?) pasta was great but the rice has a lot of room for improvement. Overall was great. I will definitely go to try other dishes next time!
Amazing fusion menu and the service was excellent and friendly! There could have been some better execution of the food, but overall it was still delicious.
Been here several times and have tried different items on the menu every time. Have never been disappointed. Suggest you look online at menu beforehand as it’s not for unadventurous diners. Always busy and yet service is good, although one complaint is that not all our food is served together and it’s not nice to have allow your food to get cold while waiting for everyone to be served. Let that be the worst complaint. Everything is great otherwise we wouldn’t be going back. Not a beautifully decorated restaurant, tables packed close together, but somehow that adds to the flavour. 👍 to the Black Bear!
As always, their services are excellent. Will definitely go back again.
Good food and service.
Black Bear was an interesting fusion of Japanese and American food. The Groupon we had offered 4 courses and all of them were great.
Went back for another tried. Surprisingly good and exceed my expectations. Service can be a bit better tho
This is the first time we went to Black Bear. It has a variety of foods on the menu. This place offer modern fusion meals. The main dish potion is abit small for big eater and appetizers seem abit expensive. We enjoy our meals anyways, and will come back another time!
Food was really good, decently priced as well. I'd definitely go again.
I saw Black Bear's AD on a Chinese social media. The photo and the fusion style made me interested, so me and my bf went to the place right away. However, we were disappointed by the food quality. All the dishes(including appetizer, main course and dessert) we ordered were just okay with a plain, boring flavor, and what we ordered were the most popular ones on the menu. I cannot imagine how the other dishes would taste like. And the room temperature was too low for a fall Toronto. The only thing we enjoyed was the cocktail style beer, it tastes really fresh n special, but good drink is not enough for a dining restaurant. One thing that really surprised me was the servers were very friendly and professional, they indeed made the meal more tolerable. In conclusion, if you are looking for a place for casual dining or quick take out, this place can be one of your choices. But if you really wanna enjoy the night, there're many places better than here.
It's a small place but enough for alot of people. Food came out fast, a little bit felt like some of the stuff is precooked. Overall it a good place to try.
Food was over cook, fry chicken is breaded fry, chicken is dry. The noodle i ask for not spicy but at the end came out so spicy. The soft crabmeat burger, cant taste the crab, the fry paste is too thick, really disappointed
Booked a table for 6, and each person enjoyed their meal. I had the softshell crab burger with curry fries. Flavour was great and service was quick. Black Bear is good for groups, and they're quite attentive.
good service, nice food.
The Veggie pasta have a rich flavour.
Soft shell crab burger is our fave thus far! We have returned to Black Bear for the third time and brought a new friend along - he loved it as well. Great place for casual get-together and fun meal. Location is easily accessible near Downtown Markham as well.
Good little Japanese Fusion restaurant. We like the food. Something special and unique, makes you want to try the food on the whole menu. Been here twice, appretizer always come later or at the same time as entrees. Kitchen's time management should be improved.
Food quality is not worth the money paid, the chef didnt know what is creame brulee made with. The rice burger is hard and dried , ruin the texture of rice
when you enter already asked if you are coupon holder and lots of special dishes are not
allow to order and so that means you have to spend more then you expect or you cannot
fully use your coupon.
They should set up a fix menu for coupon holder instead of coupon value
Food is great except dishes are all in lady's size, my husband would need a double order to fill up for dinner. Waitress/waiters are very nice for we have visitors in town and brought them to trial out some fusion menu, they liked them, however, like I said, they are all in lady's size.
Food took too long, appetizer came really late that when we finished our mains came out shortly after. Servers were very diligent in filling up our water and removing empty plates though.
Reserved with Open Table. I got a confirmation on my account and email; however, when I got to the restaurant, they said they have no reservation under my name and asked us to wait for 15 minutes. We weren't going to wait, so they offered to squeeze us in table for 4 (for 5 people) with an extra chair on the side.
Service is very good. Food is also v good
The food was really good. The waistresses were also very friendly and nice. Will come back to try other things.
Their Uni creamy spaghetti dish tastes great but portion is way too small for $16.99 price point. The beef volcano donburi is over priced, lots of beef and rice but not enough seasoning - no taste. All burgers taste great. Curry and cheese fries is good.
Again, their dishes in regular price are way too expensive compared to the portion and taste. Using the half price groupon discount is more a fair price to me.
It was goid
There were so many things on the menu that we wanted to try, but had to settle on two appetizers and two mains. The flaming sea urchin baguettes were excellent; however, the sea urchin and salmon tartar salad was not what we expected. The "tartar" turned out to be thin slices of smoked salmon.
The soft shell crab was nice and crispy as well as flavorful in the burger, accompanied by the creamy avocado which served as a nice contrast. The sea urchin squid ink spaghetti had a wonderful taste, although there could have been more sea urchin pieces.
There was no wine on the beverage list, but lots of other alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. I tried the Lemon-Hi which the server said was a popular drink. It was quite pleasant with just a touch of alcohol. We were too full to have dessert. Maybe next time.
The service was attentive. The tables were a bit too close together so it was hard not to overhear the conversations at the next tables.
We look forward to going back to try the other menu items.
I book from open table and want to use the cheque you send me , but the waiter said they don’t accept it , they have never seen, so we need to pay the full amount ourselves at the end. We are disappointed of it, this restaurant is under open table why cant i use my cheque ?
It was the worse pineapple creme brûlée I have ever had.
I enjoyed my time at this restaurant. The portion of food for the price you pay is decent. My partner and I shared food. We got pasta and I got the curry chicken katsu. My only complaint is the way the katsu is breaded that I recieved. It was not fried enough for the batter to cook all the way through. There were some gooey areas and it was also too greasy. Other than that, the curry flavour was there!
Very basic, the food was tasty but it was cold in the restaurant, there was none of the traditional Japanese dishes, so I am not really sure what type of food this restaurant serves. The pasta we ordered was good, the best of all were the fries! I was not given my open table points, so that was upsetting too. Service was good and the place was clean, but I don't think I will be back.
