Our first visit and it was wonderful! A great meal before walking over to the XL Center. Convenient parking right across the street.
Food was delicious as always, the server was very friendly and efficient.
Great food employees were extremely nice good prices
Son’s birthday Brunch. Good atmosphere, good food…good choice!
Great experience as usual. Great ribs, red beans and rice, good slaw, excellent cornbread and honey butter! My daughter had her favorite crispy chicken and fluffy waffles. Lively atmosphere and wonderful service! Highly recommend.
Love this restaurant!!! We have been many times and have never had a bad experience
The restaurant staff was very helpful and knowledgeable and attentive, we were greeted and seated right away, although we had a reservation, our waitress was extremely helpful with drinks and appetizers and of course our entrees, food was delivered promptly and very delicious, we will recommend this place to all our friends and can’t wait to go back again and try something different from the menu
We love BES, awesome service/ambiance/food. Can’t wait to go back next week.
My favorite restaurant in Hartford!
Food and waitress we great. Bartender was extremely slow. I am sure it wasn't his fault. Nobody has enough employee's. Just happy to eat out again.
OK at best. Potion have decreased. Use to be much better. Has changed since we were last there. Service okay. Bathrooms could be cleaner
My boyfriend’s birthday.
Wonderful meal in an inviting, vibe kind of place. Enjoyed the mojito and while the shrimp and grits were great…they didn’t look like the photo. Gravy was a little greasy. We would go back though!
The food was great but our server was a little rushed when taking our order; he also wasn’t helpful when I ordered the wings… I didn’t see that there was three choices so rather than point them out on the menu so I could choose, he just looked at me like I was supposed to guess by osmosis…. Otherwise we had a great experience. And the mango mimosas were delicious!
Not fancy, but a great place to eat. We will definitely go back.
Amazing my first time there was referred by a friend brought my nephew from Atlanta there for his Birthday he loved it very friendly STAFF😍
Absolutely terrible service. Bartender was waiting on tables as well as tending bar, but besides being inattentive, he wasn’t friendly or helpful. The quality of the food was not as good as prior visits, notably the grits and jambalaya. The ribs were tender and flavorful. Overall a disappointing evening for my son’s birthday.
First time trying this restaurant - as good as expected and solid service too!
This is my second time going to Black Eyed Sally's in the last year and both times the service was awful. We had to ask for the server to come to our table, she did not come prior to that. We put in our whole order all at once because we were concerned about if she would come back. She delivered our drinks after they had been sitting on the bar for a good 10 minutes. Definitely need to work on the servers and being on top of their game. Other than that, the food was good and the atmosphere was exactly as it should have been.
Food and drinks were incredible from appetizers to dessert! Service and employees were very friendly and attentive!
Love this restaurant! Everyone I so friendly! Place is very clean. Good music and food is really good. This is my 3rd time this year eating from here!
The waiter was not friendly at all. He took our order and never came back to check us. Someone else served us our food. The food was bland no flavor. I ordered chicken and waffles. Had to send the food back to the kitchen due to the chef pouring syrup on the food and saturate it so much that the waffles was soggy. It took another 20 minutes before the waiter returned with my food, by then my wife had already ate her food and we had to leave so we wouldn't be late for our show. It seems as if the waiter was avoiding us, we had to flag him down so he could bring our check. I will not be going back there.
Food was good hot. My wife had the chicken it was so hot that when got back to hotel room it was still warm. Lol
We were really impressed
Good location with nice art. Drinks absolutely wonderful.
It was a date. Very good restaurant. Miss the live bands
Food was very good. Portion sizes were large and very affordable. Service was great
Perhaps we can in the future return, but our recent visit did not meet our expectations. It took twenty minutes to get our drinks and our food came out barely warm. Not enough waitstaff for a Saturday night.
Great food and atmosphere. Wait staff was very helpful advising on menu items. So impressed I got the t-shirt.
The food is always pretty good here but they nailed it this time around. Everything was terrific. Service was well timed and friendly. A++
Really glad we found this place. Great decor, terrific menu. Wish we had more people with us so we could try more of the menu items. We were there on a Sunday, so all-day brunch was available. Bloody Mary's were fabulous. Loved the fried green tomatoes and fried okra. Blackened catfish outstanding. Pecan pie with industrial crust was disappointing. Our server was totally sweet and helpful.
Great food and ambiance. Waitress was nice just needed a little more training
Awesome food, awesome vibes, great service! The playlist was straight fire. Definitely going back!
Always love to come here! Amazing corn bread, drinks, fried chicken.
We actually got there early for our reservation. They seated us immediately but we waited about 15 minutes before anyone even came to ask for our drink order.
Similarly, once we got our food it was great but service was slow, and took asking someone else for a refresh on drinks.
We could see our waiter was busy, also working the bar, but kept seeing one waitress just walk around doing nothing.
Everything was awesome, will definitely be back. Service and food were excellent
Prompt service. Food arrived quickly and was delicious. Chill vibe for the dinner crowd. We were pleased!
Father’s Day dinner with the kids (18 & 16). Place was pretty dead when we got there. We were seated right away but took forever to get a drink order in. Not sure who our waiter was because the bartender seemed to be doing double duty. Had to flag the waiter down for refills.
The menu viewable online isn’t the same as the paper menu they hand you. Of the four desserts on the menu they were out of two of them.
Food was incredibly good but service was lousy.
Southern style food in a blues atmosphere. Hartford staple.
The food at Black Eyed Sally's Southern Kitchen is outstanding. I had the Shrimp and Grits, a southern classic. The shrimp were very flavorfully seasoned, and they developed some great char on the shell without over-cooking the meat inside. The shrimp were plump and moist, and the char on the shell added another level of flavor. The grits were smooth and creamy. I'm used to cheddar cheese in grits, but at Black Eyed Sally's they use Parmesan, which was a new and interesting take on grits for me. I don't know if I would make them that way at home, but what is eating out for if not to explore new things one might not ordinarily eat?
By night Black Eyed Sally's is Hartford's premier blues venue. As a result, the walls of the restaurant are adorned with portraits of our nations most important blues musicians, and classic blues cuts play over the sound system at a comfortable dining volume.
My only issue with Black Eyed Sally's is the price. What is now so eloquently known as "Classic Southern Cuisine" was up until not too long ago working class food served in greasy spoon joints throughout the South. And so it is difficult for me to accept the concept of paying $21 for a lunch of a bowl of grits with some shrimp on top. But to be fair, it was an exceptionally good bowl of shrimp and the price is not at all out of line compared to any other decent restaurant in downtown Hartford at today's prices. So when I say I have an issue with the price, possibly my real issue is with the times.
So if you've got the bread, if you enjoy soul food, and if you enjoy a decor and ambiance that befits that cuisine, Black Eyed Sally's is absolutely the place to go.
I will mention that I took away one star for service. I found them to be understaffed for a predictably busy Father's Day Sunday brunch. Although our service in no way suffered, their FOH staff were all clearly doing double and triple duty. Ultimately that is bound to affect their service.
We went to enjoy our traditional Father’s Day meal of BBQ, and Black-Eyed Sally’s did not disappoint! Great food, great service! Thank you again!
