This has been the most pleasant places to come with the gf and friends and family since I found out about it 3 years ago. Have been coming religiously since and is such a bummer that it’s being shut down. Always love dead rabbit but confident you will Open something similar to Blacktail here soon!
Thank you! Every drink, every detail was always perfection!
This place was amazing. We will miss it
Live Cuban music, fantastic mixed drinks, and attentive, knowledgeable staff make for an unforgettable experience. Highly recommended.
This is an academic exercise since I learned that Blacktail is closing on Saturday, Jan. 11. I went to hear (and see) the band that's been playing there on Sunday nights for over 3 years. Although the personnel varies slightly week to week, the musicians are all my friends. While you can hear the band (if possible over the crowd noise) anywhere in the room, you can only see them from a couple of tables. Mine was not one of them.
I've never been fond of the menu, but the music has kept me returning (and I live 160 miles away). The plates are small and the selection not too varied. For the type of cuisine presented, I guess it's good; it's not just my type.
Great food, drinks and atmosphere. Not for a quiet dinner or deep conversation (loud) - but was a great place and I’ll definitely go again.
Incredible atmosphere and wonderful drinks - what could go wrong?
Great looking room. Perfect for a date. More of a bar than a restaurant, with tasty small plates. However the hostess had an attitude when we ask for a different table, and we had to ask the manager who accommodated us, but it was unconformable for a bit.
We had an extra person added to our reservation - so we got moved into a hallway or entrance area and ate our dinner from a coffee table sitting on couches and chairs. Not idea. for dinner and there were people constantly walking by. Wish they'd been more clear about what moving us to that area really entailed. Probably would have just cancelled the reservation on gone somewhere else.
Great experience, food was very good. Would come here again in the summer, we sat at the bar because we felt like the tables were too close together. Bartenders were very engaging and pleasant. We were wondering why the playlist didn't include Cuban music until much later in the evening, would have preferred the whole experience music included.
Used to come here when lived more local. Been some months but finally made it back and it’s just as amazing as when we were last in. Easy top 3 (if not # 1) in my book. Service. Food. Ambience. All a+
A trip to the roaring 20’s with a Cuban flare. Anyone that likes speakeasy vibes and eclectic atmosphere would enjoy this place. The food was small plates and on point! Lovely NYC gem will definitely go back!
Great atmosphere, food and cocktails.
Sunday evening Jazz at BlackTail is wonderful. The cocktails are well-balanced and worth it. The menu is very unique in that it tells a story. One of my favorite places I try to visit every time I am in NYC.
The place is really a delight. Food fun and delicious and servers wonderfully attentive. We had a family birthday dinner there for our middle child. We are in our late seventies and our kids are middle age. Well, as can happen some were late and we notified the restaurant in time to retain the reservation. So my wife and I and our daughter meet our other daughter and her husband and we are told we have to wait and drink in the bar till the last two guests arrive. The table we were eventually shown to was right there and completely empty all the time we had to wait. The staff member was unfailingly polite, but could not offer a real reason other than it is the policy. Sometimes I think restaurants forget they are in the “service” industry.
As a younger person, I might have just chalked this up to obnoxious restaurant narcissism, but at 78 years old (in good health) it felt deeply disrespectful, not specifically ageist, but pretty humanly insensitive.
The staff was obviously selected and trained to be very customer friendly, but the stand till you drop policy undercuts any sense of civility. This is, of course, a personal beef. It’s super place and probably magical in the summer.
Only the noise level is a negative here but on a Friday night that is understandable.
Best drinks ever.
We didn't eat this time but have in the past and the food was terrific.
OUTSTANDING! The shrimp creole was absolutely out of this world fantastic! Short rib empanadas and burger outstanding too! The drinks are made with unusual blends of ingredients providing for a unique cocktail that is delicious every time! All served by an attentive and enthusiastic staff set in a Cuban bar!
The restaurant is special!
I took my husband here for his birthday celebration. I wrote in OpenTable that it was a birthday celebration, and when we ordered the churros at the end, we were given no celebratory mention. No candle. Nothing. The entire time we were there, our server was fair at best and rude at worst. She was so forceful in her speediness with addressing our table that my husband said he felt rushed at times to order when the menu we were given was practically a novella. We both work in restaurants so we know that the worst type of a meal is one where you can't stop talking about the server and the service. And unfortunately for us, that was the case. If only at the end there had been some sort of birthday mention, maybe I would feel differently about our overall experience. But this being our first time out in six months since I gave birth to our first child, this experience was supposed to be amazing. Especially with the amount of money I spent.
Great as always. The new cocktail menu is outstanding
Food was delicious, service was great and the staff was very nice and attentive. Would definitely recommend as a date night location for drinks or shared plates.
Such a lovely place. The food was amazing as well as their drinks. I would definitely recommend!
Súper recomendable. Menú simple con muchas opciones para todos los gustos. Un ambiente impresionante.
Drinks taste great but definitely looks simple for its price. Service is good - there was some fuss about having more people showing up than the reservation, but it was resolved at the end. Noise level is acceptable but on the louder side in the main bar; by impression the other side closer to bathroom would be more conducive to discussion!
Booked Blacktail based on Dead Rabbit experience and was not disappointed other than the fact it’s closing soon & so won’t be there when we next make it back to NYC.
Despite having walked so far in heels the music has me itching to get up and dance- thankfully its was quiet and so I didn’t dare.
The drinks were as every exceptional- even if I think I did disappoint my husband who was trying to be sophisticated in his drinks orders when for my second drink I ordered a Miami Vice.
Great date night spot. Could be even better for drinks with friends but was so big maybe not busy enough for 10:30 on a Saturday night if you go out early.
very convenient to the Staten Island Ferry. Cuban was a nice change from the traditional cuisine. Our server was wonderful and attentive . (forgetting her name. Charming Irish actress). I hope to make it back when I am in the Battery area.
Went to a birthday dinner. Everything was flawless. Highly recommend.
The food and drinks were amazing. We were attended to really well. It was too cold in the restaurant though and that made it uncomfortable.
Wonderfully warm service, great atmosphere and consistently well made drinks which are both true to their Cuban roots and a refreshing twist on various classics. The food is also excellent - making this hidden gem an all-rounder!
Perfect for a group of 6 hang! Amazing cocktails! Great bites and excellent service. Blacktail itself if gorgeous inside and the ambience was exactly what we were looking for - we drank many drinks and celebrated 2 birthdays in which they brought out two delicious birthday surprise desserts with candles for the birthday boys. The Glam Rock cocktail was particularly wonderful.
The service makes you feel like you’re the only one in the restaurant. Food is great
I absolutely love this place. Authentic Cuban atmosphere in the heart of NYC. I love all cocktails I tasted so far and food is great. I am a big fan of Tres Laches dessert and it is delicious there (except the last time). Earlier this year I went there with my mom and grandma the night before my Bday. All 3 generations of my family enjoyed it. Live music is loud, but performers are great. One more fact: you can ask for a postcard to fill out and the restaurant will mail it anywhere in the world!!! This is pretty awesome! Once had a bad experience when my fiancée’s assistant screwed up the reservation date and a hostess was unable to find a table for us. She was pretty unfriendly and rude. My fiancée got pretty offended and doesn’t go there anymore. So the only option I have now is to go there with my girlfriends and friends out of town. YOU CAN NEVER BE RUDE TO YOUR CUSTOMERS.
We come here once a year to enjoy ourselves and splurge.
Interesting and varied drink menus, attentive staff and delicious food. A hidden gem.
Great cocktails and atmosphere. Well worth a visit when you’re in NYC.
Number one 2017 bar in U.S. for a reason! Spot on drinks and service!
Cool place for something different.
Pretentious - over extending and under achieving. Second time there, will not be back.
