Sarawak Black Pepper Roasted Duck and Pancake£42.00
Executive Chef Daren Liew created our signature dish using several South East Asian spices, including the famous Sarawak black pepper. The pepper, found only in the deep forests of east Malaysia, will transport you to a memory from the Chef's childhood. The roasted duck goes through a seventy-two-hour journey in the kitchen. After marinating in a blend of spices, the duck air-dries using ancient methods. It is then smoked in cherry wood containing natural sugars, producing a caramelized layer on the skin. This slow process provides a delicious duck with crispy, delicate skin and succulent meat. Following the lengthy process in the kitchen, the duck is accompanied on the plate by homemade pancakes, baby cucumber, fresh leek, and a hand-crafted condiment using hawthorn jelly. On first impressions it’s was lovely , peaceful chilled atmosphere we sat at the bar for a bit and had a drink while our table was being sorted, was a little bit disappointed with the table we had been placed at all though very well presented it was seated between a large group which were rather loud and we chose a late booking at we wanted a chilled evening . I think for couples you should maybe take this in to consideration ? All in all it was lovely and would book again , I hope this is something you would look into for the future . Excellent food, though maybe not quite as exceptional as expected for the price. Not keen on the slow noodling jazz 'hotel lift' music throughout - odd choice for a South Asian fine dining restaurant. Still, good service and plenty of interesting things to try on the menu, so will come again.

The restaurant has gone down hill since we first went there last July. Lost it’s sophistication and excellent service. Good menu has also worsened. A great pity. Won’t be returning.

We booked lunch for three as a birthday celebration. The food was faultless and I would highly recommend. Sadly the service was poor there were 3 waiting staff and only 6 tables occupied. One main course dish recommended by the waiter never appeared, as the tapas style dishes were gradually brought out we assumed it would be last but the waiter started to clear plates before we said it was missing. Wine was poured and taken to a cooler by the till as no waiting staff were attentive I got up twice and went to get it! Perhaps little things to some but given how quiet the restaurant was really not excusable. I would return for the food but do feel some dishes for their size were over priced and other places provide better fr value for money.

Staff who served us was lovely and gave us a dessert for our anniversary Tables too close together (so felt we couldn’t have an intimate dinner), many with no view of the harbour One dish was inedible due to the amount of salt used Very high prices and the more expensive ’signature’ dish wasn’t worth it The crab and prawn starters however were delicious!!

We have been there a few times and the food and service is always been AMAZING. I can not recomend this restaurant enough.

We visited whilst staying in Southampton for my mums birthday. The meal was absolutely outstanding, great choice of different cocktails to start the evening followed by fantastic service and amazing food.

34th Anniversary let down by long delay at being served, over-battered crab and dry chicken and nuts like Bombay mix starter followed by overrated signature duck dish with a ridiculous small portion of sauce. Totally over priced food and drink costing us £120 on a meal we could have got for one third the price from a shop. Will never return or recommend

2nd time seated in the top section. Really don’t enjoy the ambiance up there. Too light. Not intimate. Will make a point of requesting main restaurant space next time. Also, felt very rushed by the service. The room was packed up around us. Supporting waiter seemed like he needed a little more training too…kept putting cutlery back to front etc… Food amazing as usual though. Can’t beat & won’t let the service stop me coming back…love this place
