Recommended by family as they had eaten the chef's food at another location. Attended and was greeted by the hostess who took our coats. Observed that there were 3 other tables in various states of their meals. Seated at a table in poor condition extremely wobbly. The building is old I understand however many renovations were done and yet the floor had a noticeable dip which affected the table. Chairs were modern and uncomfortable. No cocktail list. Hostess was our waitress. Long wait times for food even though once again only 4 tables present. 5th table arrived towards end of our meal, would have ordered dessert however waitress had seated, taken drink orders, served drinks, taken appetizers order and served appetizers prior to questioning if we wanted dessert.
The food was good, the service needed improvement, the price point is too high for the experience obtained.
Phenomenal duck and beet salad.
My husband & I went for dinner but it sure will not be the last time. The soup, wings & lamb were excellent! We highly recommend this restaurant!!
Delicious food, innovative menu. Small portions. Rather noisy, hard to have a conversation across the table
It was a pleasant find. Food was excellent, beer menu is limited. Overall nice evening, it did get loud inside due to the group beside us.
Fantastic presentation of food, unique food combinations the music was awesome! What a great find in downtown St. Catherines - it was worth the drive!!
We have always had great service at Bolete, but on this occasion we had to wait for over 35 minutes for our cocktails!! and they weren’t even made right! Our starters were delicious but the main courses were a big let down and over cooked/deep fried.
The olive starter was great. Beef was very tasty as was the duck. Pasta needed more seasoning. Desserts were delicious. The service was excellent and the music was soft enough to allow for a good conversation.
The service was fantastic. Not overbearing, just timely and genuinely friendly. The food was fantastic. I never order a vegetarian main course, but the corn and polenta salad seemed interesting. It did not disappoint. It was light, fresh, and packed with flavor. If you’re in St. Catherine’s this place is definitely worth checking out.
The food was fantastic did not expect this elabore restaurant in a small town like St Catharines. The service was superb
Had a very pleasant time. Order the salmon tartare was excellent. The eggplant dumpling was good not great. Pork belly was outstanding. Had the chocolate Carmel brûlée : if you are a chocolate person it was very good, I’m not so I expected a creamer brûlée with a hint of chocolate but it was more a chocolate brûlée with only a minor hint of caramel.
All in all a very nice evening- will serve going back.
Service was friendly and proficient- although I felt the server let me down on the dessert as I asked if it was more chocolate than caramel and they weren’t sure - which means they either haven’t had it or it has not been explained to them. At those prices I expect the staff to know the menu
Inventive, delicious menu and excellent service. Best gnocchi we've had in years.
Very creative chef, perfectly prepared and presented food, all of it, the appetizer, the main course and the dessert. Unbelievable surprise to find this quality in St . Catharines after the widespread mediocrity in so many restaurants in Ontario. Go soon, before the chef is lured away.
We were looking for a fine dining rest. July 14. On Open Table Bolete’s name appeared. It was local, not far away. We viewed the write up describing Bolete and it seemed to be just what we were looking for. And it was! It’s large enough not to be quaint, and small enough not to feel franchise. The menu was ideal, a single page. The service fantastic. We started with fresh oysters (Malpeque). They were shucked perfectly, clean and well presented. We drank Oast beer, always a good choice. Humbolt squid and a salmon tar-tar were next. My suggestion, “try these as you’ll be sorry to have missed out if you don’t”. The main course was halibut, and seared pork belly, both with seasonal veggies. We opted out of desert as we were pleasantly full. And, to add to the great evening, it was well within reasonably priced. We’d easily recommend Bolete.
Excellent oysters! Parking is very difficult though.
Restaurant was hot - no ac on a very warm evening, noise level was uncomfortable, food was good but small portion for the cost. would not return, wait staff seemed put out that we asked for my grandson's beef to be cooked a little more.
Never disappoints! Food and drinks are always top notch.
I was dining with 2 others. All was going well until 7 pm when a DJ began playing very loud, electronic type music. It became very difficult to hear each other from that point on. It spoiled what had been a great meal.
Excellent food... all courses. Will come here again.
Amazing food, need to go back for the Buck a Shuck they do from 4-7pm everyday.
It was a return visit for my husband and me and it met our fave review for the friends that came with us, this visit.
Great evening with some friends. I had the lamb a couple people had Cornish hen and one had the pickerel. All food done perfectly and service was amazing. We continue to go back as the meals are always fantastic.
Mother’s Day brunch after a local run; excellent meal and service, and they made a regular burger and fries for my daughter who didn’t care for anything in the menu. Only complaint is one that we have of many restaurants- no sound proofing in the walls and therefore conversation from other tables is loud and it’s hard to hear across our table. Highly recommend, however.
Worst dining experience ever!!!!!!!!!!!
Creative, innovative food preparation. We’re still talking about it!
Great, creative cocktails and tasty vegan options. They were able to make a vegan version of the pasta which was amazing and the mushroom dumplings were to die for.
Great food, extensive wine and cocktail list, Stuart the bartender crushes it every time we go. One of the best places in Niagara for a night out.
My friend and I were attending the Small Feats exhibition in St. Catherine's last weekend and found Bolete by accident. I would say that Bolete was one of my best eating experiences I have ever had. The food was fresh and unique and all the ingredients were local sourced. The service was exceptional and I recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting St. Catherine's. The following night my husband and I went to a well known restaurant in Toronto and I told my husband- Bolete was better!!!!!
Best new restaurant in the niagara region. 10/10! Highly recommend, amazing food, great service, causal fine dining.
Wonderful meal with friends who had not been before. Excellent food and decor. Friendly and “ as you needed it” service
I am saying I would recommend because I'm going to hope it was just an OFF night. The waiter had zero personality, a lady who walked around with attitude kept asking for the salt shaker I requested back, I felt like she thought I was going to pilfer it. Not nice! It was not busy but I liked the bar in front of the kitchen idea and will try it. I use to frequent Spencers in Burlington so I am hoping to have a better experience the next time. I also just ordered the "wrong" thing.
Service was excellent! Four of us had the Scallops. Three scallops on a small amount of vegetables wasn't enough food for the $26.00 cost. All four of us found the Scallops a bit too salty, overpowering that great Scallop taste.
Loved it! The food was great and service was great - wonderful find!
Totally enjoyed our experience before a show at the PAC.
The staff were remarkable and moved around like a well oiled machine.
I have dined at Bolete before because I am familiar with Chef Andrew McLeod. The food and cocktails were fantastic. Absolutely delicious. But I must say the price was expensive. I believe it has increased by a couple dollars per dish since the last time I dined there. However for that price I expect the service to be superb and instead it was pretty bad. Our server, although gracious was clumsy, forgetful and not accommodating. He spilled part of one of the cocktails we ordered and almost always spilled the water when refilling the glasses. He served myself and the other man at the table first instead of the two ladies when it came to drinks and food which is a no-no in my books and maybe fine dining establishments. When we told he about a dietary issue(an allergy to bell peppers) in the side dish to the scallops (a red pepper and corn succotash) he told us that it was actually just tomato and fermented chillies. Instead of replacing or substituting the side dish he left one of us to just eat half a meal. The beer and wine selection is good.
We had an amazing time on Saturday night with are friends. The food was perfect. Will definitely be back
Was pleasantly surprised that st catharines hosted such fine dining. The food was excellent and reasonably priced. You would expect to pay much more for the meals we had but the preparation and presentation was first class. Service was attentive but unobtrusive, our waiter was friendly, polite and well versed, making several recommendation that were appreciated. Overall I would highly recommend Bolete for special dinning experience and look forward to our next visit.
I don't think I have had a better experience in recent years at a restaurant.
The food, the atmosphere, the service. Absolutely fantastic! If you love good, creative, thoughtful cuisine, it is a must.
The food and service was excellent.
Definitely recommend Bolete.
I will visit again the next time I am in town.
Food is always on point- love the cocktail menu with seasonal influence.
