the Napoleonic era give the restaurant the intimate character
that guests treasure. An exquisite cuisine, prepared with French savoir-faire
and showcasing the finest fresh regional products.
Have dined in restaurants world wide and growing up in NYC, I’ve had my share of everything from 1 star to 5 stars....this establishment is very good, and what’s even better? It’s consistent. My 3rd time and always perfect from food to service to ambiance. Go, you’ll love it!
Excellent French food the sauce on my fish was so delicious I will return to have that again! My husband had venison and duck it was fantastic. Perfect chocolate mousse!
It is always a truly elegant and comfortable to have a meal for either business or pleasure. I love it!
Excellent food . We tried the tasting menu and really love it.
The service is awesome. They know how to take care customers!
Bonaparte is the perfect restaurant for any special occasion. We had our anniversary dinner there and they took such good care of us from the moment we arrived. The service was excellent and everyone who came to our table congratulated us. We had the tasting menu and found the food to be sublime. The seafood was divine and the lamb was just gorgeous. They made us feel as if they were just waiting for us to make their day. Well, they made our day extra special and we can’t wait to return. Thank you, Bonaparte for such a memorable evening!
We took the Valentine`s Day menu and it was great all around. The staff was friendly as usual and the bartender knows his craft and shows it well. This is actually the only restaurant we enjoy having a drink at the bar before going our meal because nothing is watered down and the mix are pretty original.
The 6 course dinner was interesting. The wait time before the meat plates was WAY TOO LONG. The host apologized , but the time was too long. The meat plates were delicious, but heavily over shadowed by the long wait.
On another note, as a gay couple, we appreciated being offered a rose as we left. That was a true class act of inclusion!
What a great experience from food to service.
Many thanks to Catherine and Matthew!!!!!!!!
For Valentine's day, we had the 6 course tasting menu. Each was a reasonable sized serving and well prepared. Avoid the small room in the back of you can.
I enjoyed my dinner from beginning to end. It started with a nicely seasoned lobster bisque, followed by a delicious salmon tartare with smoked salmon, a scrumptious seafood crepe, and a spectacularly tender filet. The atmosphere was warm and cordial, and the service was attentive, prompt, and gracious. I'll be back!
Great food, great service, we truly enjoyed our evening made so enjoyable by pleasant staff.
A good place for business dinners — attentive service, good wine, and fine food.
Lovely, elegant yet cozy dining room in the old style with chandeliers and high ceilings. This is offset by modern fireplace and wine display. All personnel were pleasant and helpful and the food was excellent - and that's the opinion of world traveling foodies!
Delicious French food and French wine in a nice ambience
Incredible. Recommend 10/10
All in all a beautiful experience. The service was impeccable and the food was delicious.
I never write reviews, however, this was hands down one of the best restaurant experiences I have had the pleasure of enjoying. On a weekend trip to Montreal from NY, my boyfriend and I decided at the last minute to switch our reservation to this restaurant. Immediately we were greeted with smiles at coat check and promptly sat at our tables. We had the creme brulee fois gras with gingerbread toast which was to die for. I had the venison medallions and my boyfriend has the chicken with sage creme. Both of which were absolutely delicious. We finished with a chocolate and hazelnut mousse which had the perfect amount of sweetness (not too much). Our server went above and beyond for us and was so incredibly personable. He even wrote down markets and museums for us to visit while we were in the city. I beyond highly recommend Bonaparte to anyone, local or visiting, for a wonderful night!
My fiancé and I made reservations to celebrate my birthday and it was absolutely wonderful. We opted for the ala carte menu and tried the warm goat cheese filo dough appetizer. The kitchen was able to split this into two generous portions for us which was very sweet and not expected. It was extremely tasty, but I will say, we both were not expecting the cheese to have such a sharp taste -- still good, just unexpected. When we ordered our mains, our server was so fabulous and recommended a red wine blend for my venison medallions with mushroom ravioli. It paired together so well. The server also recommended that I get my venison rare, which I wasn't too keen on, but she convinced me to get medium rare and I am glad I did. It really did melt in my mouth and was so yummy! The only down side to my meal specifically was by the time I got around to my raviolis, they were cold which was a little unfortunate. As for my fiancé, he ordered an old fashioned and the filet mignon, both of which he said were the best he ever had. The plating was absolutely beautiful, as was the ambience of the entire restaurant. We ended the night with creme brûlée and their chocolate hazelnut cake, which were absolutely wonderful. At the end, they came out with a bite size strawberry-looking cake with a sparkler attached to celebrate my birthday, which was so lovely! I really enjoyed eating here and will absolutely be back the next time we visit Montreal.
Highist quality of ambiance, quality of food, and delightful service. A extremely complete wine list as well as reasonable priced Tabled’hote. All this in a restaurant like you just stepped off a street in Paris.
"We love the relaxed feel of this place – like a comfortable dining room in a friend's home. It was our anniversary, We definitely would return to try more dishes.
Merci beaucoup, pour une super soirée. Service et nourriture était parfait!!!
We went with higher expectation.
Food was ok, nothing to stand out.
We have the degustation menu.
Good experience, a little bit expensive
A lovely restaurant in the old town with outstanding service and excellent food.
We loved this restaurant! Everything : service, food, ambiance!
Excellent service from the woman who served us: she greeted me warmly when I arrived late (!) and realized I would need a second Prosecco! She also timed when we were ready for another course. We were out in 1.5 hours - perfect for going next door to the theatre.
Very nice dinner with my daughter, good food great service
Food was superb (although portions could be a bit bigger), tasty and varied. Service impeccable, right down to the coat check and greeting upon arrival. Spot-on.
If I had to complain about something, it was the fact that, when my wife and I mentioned that we were not going to be having wine that evening, there was a noticeable look of disappointment on the waiter's face. But in the grand scheme of things, hardly worth mentioning.
We will return.
Very good and prompt service, wonderful location near the fireplace on the winter /stormy night.
I have been going to Bonaparte since 1999 after the executive chef of the New England Culinary Institute recommended it to me. It never fails to provide excellent food with the most wonderful ambiance. The service is impeccable.
My go-to whenever I am in Montreal. HIghly recommended!
We regularly go to Bonaparte but this time took some friends from out of town. We were pretty confident we would have a good experience and we did: They loved the whole experience, especially the 6-course tasting menu. It was a very successful evening by all standards.
Tres bon choix a la carte et la table d'hote presente un tre bon rapport qualite-prix. Le service est de grande qualite.
I found that the soup was exquisite, the chocolate mousse was delicious and my daughter's scallops were good. However, my porc tenderloins were tasteless. I thought that a bit of fine herbs would have enhanced the taste greatly.
Excellent service, exceptional taste, ambiance galore.
I didn’t actually dine here, I made the reservations for my in-laws, who had an excellent meal and loved everything about Bonaparte!
It is always a pleasure to eat at Bonaparte, a lovely place with excellent service, delicious food beautifully presented and a comfortable noise level, rare to find these days in a restaurant.
At first I was not sure as I had bad experience in the past with tasting menus. Wow was i surprised. We left full and got to try all the signature dishes for one low price. The pest place in Montreal for french Cuisine. It really was amazing with friendly staff. This was the best find on my trip. I would really eat here again. I wish they had a place this nice in New York City!
Le serveur attitré à notre table avait l’air de ne pas être content d’être là.
Le 4 janvier 18.30.
Mais l’accueil à la réception et au service des plats était très cordial.
Un grand merci pour avoir eu la table demandée
