the Napoleonic era give the restaurant the intimate character
that guests treasure. An exquisite cuisine, prepared with French savoir-faire
and showcasing the finest fresh regional products.
Restaurant haut de gamme avec un service très distingués !
Le tartare de bœuf est sans aucun doute le meilleur que j’ai mangé de ma vie,
La carte des vins est impressionnante, mais hors de prix!
This was not a good experience.
Cramped restaurant/Tables too close so that service/clearing was done by reaching over table....silverware not available when food delivered...temperature in restaurant too warm...snafus in missing/out of order courses on the tasting menu...unbearably long pauses between courses ....mushroom ravioli the best course but everything else the kitchen sent out was not up to par especially an over cooked/miniscule dover sole main...a salad improperly dressed(salad dressing dumped in a clump in 1 segment)....we overheard the waiter scolding 2 other tables for trying to order uniquely...wine and water not refilled at ours and multiple tables surrounding us...worst food experience by a long shot on an otherwise delightful long Montreal weekend
My husband & I booked our table a couple of months ago for our visit to Montréal from Halifax. We had been looking forward to it so much and we were not disappointed. From the moment one steps through the door, the service is impeccable. I ordered the phyllo goat cheese starter that just melted in mouth & my husband’s steak was one of the best he’d ever had. Our good friend joined us for dinner & Bonaparte has the perfect ambiance for quiet conversation. We would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in Old Montréal & we shall certainly return.
Nice French Restaurant located in a hotel in Old Montréal. Service was slow, but food very good.
It had been a few years since I came back to Bonaparte and this time was a big miss. The service has gone down terribly. We arrived and no one had offered to take our coats (something they used to do automatically that had impressed me). We came as a group of friends. We were sat right next to the cash register at the entrance. One of our seats was practically pushed up against it. Very uncomfortable. The noise level was very loud. Our reservation was for 8 PM...our meal order wasn't taken until maybe 8:45ish...and our main dishes only arrived after 9:40 PM! The appetizers were good, the presentation was alright. The only outstanding appetizer worth mentioning was the mushroom ravioli...it was delicious. The duck magret was cooked to perfection, the beef tartare was well seasoned. All in all, the food was good, but the service took so long that it will probably be a while before any of us thinks of coming back here again.
We were there for an anniversary dinner. The staff was so friendly and even sent dessert with sparklers. The food was delicious, I had the sirloin in a red wine sauce and my husband had the pork tenderloin-cooked to perfection. The lime meringue pie was amazing! We both loved Boneparte and would definitely go there again when in Montréal.
Lovely evening in a beautiful room.
Service was close to perfect.
Best filet ever, venison was a bit chewy but that’s probably normal since I don’t typically eat venison.
Mushroom ravioli was delicious.
Wonderful wine selection.
A bit pricey but that’s ok.
Honestly worth it.
This was one of the best meals and service I have had. The menu was extensive and varied as was the wine list. The service was outstanding. Our meals were beautiful presented with excellent tastes to go along. I would highly recommend this restaurant for anyone on any occasion.
Very nice restaurant, service and food was excellent. We’ll definitely go back during our next visit to Montreal.
We all know that it takes more than food to make a great meal. Certainly tasty, well presented food is necessary but also the waiters; the Chef; the background music; the table setting; the wine or other drinks and your overall feelings make it special or beyond. For me it was excellent!
We went to this restaurant based on the recommendations at Trip Advisor. At first the food and service was good, but then we waited 30 minutes for our entre, after complaining. Perhaps the chef forgot us. Also, 5 couples who were seated after us, ate and left before we received our entre. Needless to say, lost our appetite.
Excellent all around. We would highly recommend that diners close out their evening with the chocolate or Grand Marnier soufflés . !
I dined here with a friend whilst I was visiting Montreal, from Australia. I found the service throughout our dining experience was nothing less than excellent. Our waiter was very professional and attentive. The food served was of a high quality. There was a nice ambiance to the restaurant, providing us with an overall pleasurable experience. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
Beautiful room in lovely part of the old port. Our server, Catherine, was extremely professional and pleasant. Unfortunately, her shift ended before our night did and the server who took over didn’t even greet us the first time he came to the table. He was aloof but perked up by the end.
We had the chèvre appetizer and the sesame crusted tuna and filet mignon with peppercorn and cognac sauce (the highlight for me) as mains. All were very good, though not mind-blowing. Key lime meringue pie tastes like lemon meringue pie - good, but it wasn’t up to the standard of the rest of the meal.
Overall, it was a 4, and Catherine’s service was a 5. Very nice night.
Five course meal a value and gorgeous food
The dessert soufflés are absolutely incredible!! Chocolate chip, grand mariner and apple bourbon. We ordered all three and they were equally amazing. Light as a cloud. If you go to Bonaparte, always save room for the soufflé!!
Recommended to us it was an amazing experience and the food was outstanding. Service was a little slow and it was relatively expensive but worth every dollar! It was truly a wonderful dinner that made you feel you were in the heart of Paris!
Service was among the worst I’ve experienced. Thirty-five minutes to get water and wine ordered. Nearly 90 minutes until food arrived and it was totally cold. The seafood fettuccine was unsauced. Gave up trying to get a water refill
Excellent service, food and atmosphere!! One of the best restaurants we went to while visiting Montreal!
The servers are so attentive and accommodating. The food is absolutely delicious. We had the duck breast and the filet mignon. Both meats were cooked to perfection. Both were very flavorful and tender. The chocolate hazelnut cake is to die for! If you are looking for authentic French cuisine you will be in the right place at Bonaparte!
Bonaparte was friendly, refined and a wonderful experience. Our waiter was helpful with descriptions of the menu. For entrees, we had the chicken and mahi mahi. Both were excellent!
Host accommodated us despite delays due to cruise ship engine failure. Food suggestions by the serves were on spot. The pork tenderloin was the best I’ve ever had. The lime lie with meringue topping was wonderful. lobster bisque was also awesome. Service was impeccable. Ambience was nice and I highly recommend this if you want a special night out in the old town
We booked last minute and ended up with 9:30 time slot. We enjoyed a private table by the window. We had the 3 course dinner but will return for the tasting menu. Every course was delightful. We took many of the recommendations in the other reviews and had a great experience.
Absolutely fantastic classic French cuisine. Recommended for anyone looking for a memorable meal.
I am without words. :-) Everything I ate was wonderful. The chef should be very proud.
Beautiful location. Tasting menu is a real bargain. Good traditional cuisine. Excellent service staff.
Outstanding dining experience, start to soufflé finish!
Great meal with great service. Very very nice atmosphere.
Just wonderful. For a restaurant to have been in business this long and still so obviously care about the beauty of the restaurant, the quality of service, the creativity of the food and the quality of preparation speaks volumes. My wife and I wanted one really nice dinner in Montreal and Bonaparte delivered and then some. It's traditional French at heart but definitely not mailing it in--there were interesting touches and ideas in each course.
Outstanding in every way! Our server, Catherine was so pleasant, interactive, and engaging. Cannot recommend highly enough.
Excellent service and top notch food
Best meal I’ve had in years. Everything was amazing. Highly recommend.
Très agréable moment, cuisine très bonne et serveurs très sympathiques. Le cadre est bien aussi.
One of the most enjoyable dining experiences I've ever had. The service, the food and drink, and the ambiance all 5 stars. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Most of our selections were extremely well prepared and delicious. The one exception was the Dover sole which was unevenly cooked and underwhelming. The restaurant is beautifully appointed and very comfortable. The only other disappointment was the fact that the restaurant made no effort to recognize the very special occasion we were celebrating despite being informed in advance. C’est la vie!
Excellent! The mushroom ravioli was unbelievable.
Our (5 star) server told us it is rumored that people wake up in the middle of the night dreaming about these jewels. I think she is correct.
Fantastic quality and good service without being overbearing or snobby.
Great service! Thank you!
This is a charming restaurant in Old Montreal. Three of our table if four had the 6-course tasting menu consisting of their signature dishes from the al la carters menu. Each course was yummy. Fav was the mushroom ravioli. The pasta was so delicate and the filling had great flavors. Least fav was the lobster bisque which was still good, just not prepared different to my expectation. Dessert was a sampling of delicacies. The fourth in our group ordered al la carters. Frankly, his meal cost about the same as the tasting menu and portions were not significantly larger. I suggest going with the tasting menu. We did not have the souffle for dessert but the table next to us did. Looked amazing and was shared by three people.
Only criticism is the long wait between courses and our waiter relied too much on the support staff to check in with us to keep water glasses filled, etc. Prepare for fine dining for 3 hours. Certainly this factor will not keep us away when we return to Montreal. Highly recommend.
