Partner and I ordered tasting menu and wine pairing. The Sommelier was knowledgeable and engaging. Our server, Chris, was attentive and accommodating. Live music was fun and never overbearing. Our table faced the kitchen, which my partner found distracting; however, there were many other lovely seating options.
Food was delicious. I give it 4 stars because we were both underwhelmed by the halibut plate.
While we have had more memorable meals at this price point, the dinner was a success and we both thoroughly enjoyed our experience.
Our server was phenomenal and made each and every dish dazzle
Omg ! This place is incredible. First of all their ambiance is beautiful. Feels like your in heaven. The service was excellent. I ordered the crab and avocado Benny and holy moly ! This is by far the best I ever had. The place is located at the Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel which is also beautiful. Amazing amazing amazing! A must if you are visiting Vancouver.
Avocado toast was amazing!
Family trip to Vancouver.
While the food was good, the ambiance is cold and a bit pretentious. The food is overthought and desperately nouvelle cuisine. A good place to impress a boss, but not a place to have a comfortable meal.
What a delightful dining experience! My friend was having his birthday celebration and the restaurant was extremely attentive and went well above and beyond recognizing this event. The quail egg appetizer was incredible! The sable fishNd the halibut were cooked to perfection! The service was impeccable! There is a reason why this restaurant is number one in Vancouver!
Fantastic. Great experience for special occasions and regular dining.
Great ambiance and service, even had a birthday card addressed to the birthday boy.
The mushroom tagliatelle was delicious, as well as the rib eye.
However, the lamb I ordered to be cooked medium rare came out medium well to well done, way overcooked and very disappointing, the watercress salad was also lackluster.
Botanist is absolutely stunning! The team has put together a thoughtful, creative, scrumptious experience. From the finest of details, to ambiance, to deliciously crafted meals Botanist was the best brunch experience I've had in Vancouver. No wonder it's won so many awards in such a short amount of time. The garden room feels like you're dining in an elegant jungle, and the details leave you in awe. We went for an early mother's day experience and can't wait to return to experience the cocktails and dinner.
Beautiful dinner, sat in the garden room. Live music and food was to die for. Fairly expensive, but was a fun experience
Great restaurant. Valet parking insanely expensive though. Park on the street—or pay $48 for 3 hours like we did!
We had made a reservation on advance to celebrate my wife’s 60th birthday based on the reviews and appearance of the restaurant in the photos. On our arrival we were politely greeted and coats checked and seated at a table for two. The first thing we noticed was an extremely loud sound level in the restaurant, due to hard surfaces and also the live hotel style music. We found the menu to be interesting, we tried some of the custom cocktails which were quite good as was the signature bread. On the menu you only have a choice of an appetizer and the main or a tasting menu, so we opted for the foie gras and then my wife had the ribeye and I had the sablefish. Here is why our rating is only three for the food even though everything but the steak was well presented and had good flavor. Her ribeye looked like a London broil a.k.a. a top sirloin cut and had no marbling and was chewy. For $49 for the entrée this was really unacceptable. We did ask if this was indeed the ribeye and we were told yes. We do not believe that was true, as we order ribeye on a regular basis and this was not one. Again everything else including the two desserts that we chose were wonderful, and we really appreciated the personal birthday card signed by the staff presented to my wife. The steak is the only reason why we cannot give it a higher rating. Total meal with tip ran over $300 Canadian, about $70 of that was alcohol. At this price level our expectations are high and were only partially met.
I found the food a but fussy. The basic ingredients are top quality, but the accompanying sauces and garnishing are rather overwrought, as if the kitten tries to hard to impress with exotic ingredients. That said, mt scallops and duck breast were cooked perfectly. Portion sizes were very good for an upscale restaurant, which is my writing means that they were a moderate size to serve one person at dinner with out being meant to fill a "doggie bag" for a second meal at home.
Outstanding! Simply Outstanding!
Very tasty food, interesting environment (being in a hotel) and exquisite service
My wife and I dined on Saturday, 1pm, in the Garden Room, which has no view of the water, yet is quite attractive and relaxing. The Garden of Quarth cocktail is both smoky and fruity, & contains fennel. It works. I recommend it. Those appetizers/small plates on lightly toasted bread come on thick slices with fresh, chewy crusts. The veal bolognese is hearty yet not overly salty. The french toast uses a brioche so the flavor of the carmelized bananas comes through.
Beautiful space but was disappointed about the price point for the amount of food received.
Four of us went to The Botanist for dinner. My wife and I shared the scallops as an appetizer. Wow. Some of the best scallops I have had. For the main I had the ribeye and my wife and sister-in-law had the lamb. All were excellent. My brother had the sablefish. Also excellent. Lots of subtle flavours and fantastic service. I will definitely recommend this restaurant . ... and return myself.
Outstanding. Greeted quickly and warmly. Seated immediately with reservation. Pleasant, attentive, knowledgeable server. Had scallops and charred octopus appies-superb. Halibut and lamb mains- perfect. Chocolate dessert was best we’ve had.
Overall, one of the best dining experiences we’ve had. Will go again when back in Vancouver.
Went for a special occasion lunch, all the staff are very friendly and welcoming. Had the Sunchoke Soup with crab which sounds weird but was absolutely delicious. The Sablefish was also perfectly cooked with a crisp top and seafood foam. My husband had the Lamb Tenderloin and loved it. Presentation of all dishes is beautiful and adds to the enjoyment.
Birthday card and dessert were an added delight.
The plants make the room extremely attractive.
Much of the menu can be prepared gluten free.
Excellent food however, just a little pricey. Overall it was a wonderful dining experience.
One of the best restaurants in vancouver the chef tasting menu is fantastic and great wine pairing my boyfriend is vegan and they do and amazing food to him
Absolutely amazing service! The moment I stepped in they asked what the occasion was for and when I said it was my birthday the server returned with a birthday cocktail on the house and a birthday card for me. What a nice little touch for that extra mile. Amazing food and ambience. We got seated in the garden area where all the greenery is and it truly is a beautiful space!
Waitresses with bad attitude, food took forever to the table and was not prepared the way ordered. Prices weway high for the value of food. Would not go there again.
A good friend and I had a great dinner here. Started with an amazing cocktail in the bar downstairs. My dairy intolerance was easily accommodated with lots of choices the octopus with chorizo, duck breast with black garlic jus and the black cod were all cooked to perfection and the sauces sublime. House made bread is worth it. Wines by the glass paired by their sommelier Jen made it a dinner to remember. Beautiful room if a bit on the loud side.
We had a private booth (did not ask for it). On one hand nice and quiet and on other we did not really get a feel for the vibe of the place as it is far away from the main seating area.
Stayed at the Pacific Rim and tried their signature restaurant. Food was good but overall atmosphere, service and noise from the downstairs bar overshadowed the better aspects.
We sat at the bar, which is almost always are choice. Both the bartenders were attentive and engaging. Both the small plates we ordered were fantastic. The room itself is stylish, yet inviting. We will definitely go back.
Great ambiance! It's a try again restaurant for sure.
Had an outstanding experience at Botanist for a special gathering of four people.
Service was excellent. The Botanist team made my guests and I feel extremely welcomed and special.
The wine list is outstanding, and the food matched right up to the high caliber of the wine program. I love this restaurant because I can actually hear the people I am with, and I NEVER feel like I am being pushed out so that the restaurant can turn the table over for another guest — I feel valued as a person, not a bill cover.
Huge Fan! Will be back again soon.
We had a reservation at 8:15 but sat down at 9:30. This is unacceptable especially when we book through open table service.
The manager Sean did a great job after words but it was a long wait.
The service was world class from reception to bar to table. We took advice from reviews and went early to the bar... a lot of fun to sit and talk with the bartenders and other guests. For dinner we ordered off the menu rather than the tasting menu which was very good. Service was terrific and the pace of the meal perfect. Highly recommend it for a special night when you want something more than your usual favorite
Amazing!! Perfect all around.
Server was very friendly and made some good recommendations. Really liked my cocktail - poetry in motion.
Very great environment, and the food was fabulous!! The seared sablefish is little bit salty, and the radish that come with it is salty as well. But overall great flavour and the rib eye is so tender. Love the Espresso Martini #2. The restaurant comes alive around 6:30. It got a little noisy when there’s a large group sit next to you and the lady just keep laughing so loud. :) anyway, botanist is a great place. Although the price is a little high, I would definitely go back once more.
Had Sunday brunch at The Botanist yesterday. Extremely disappointed with the meal. I would expect a $28 Eggs Benedict to be something a little more special.
There were 3 guests in our party. We all ordered coffee. Each of use received an individual French Press Pot. Of course, the coffee got cold between pours. Why would server not suggest we get one Press at a time to avoid cold, wasted coffee!??
I have had many better brunches at FAR lower prices. Botanist - at least for brunch - is utterly disappointing and exorbitantly priced.
Nice layout and a good use of space. Definitely paying to “be there” than for the good food.
I received a strong recommendation from a friend so decided to try Botanist for a long catch up mid-week lunch with a dear friend.
- The space and ambiance was fabulous- warm light, colour palette, open space, creative decor and most importantly - quiet enough to have a great conversation.
- The service was excellent - warm, real, not too intrusive, attentive
- The food was elegantly plated and creative. The mushroom and polenta dish was unique and delicious in texture and flavour.
- A few things for improvement: our bread squares were dry. The mussels were overcooked, which I would not expect at this price point. The carrot salad was smokey and wonderful however burrata was runny and not best quality.
A hard review to write as we enjoyed many aspects of our experience. To be fare we did not experience a broad range of dishes and I'll definitely try again!
My girlfriend and I went to Botanist for our anniversary, and were very pleased with our experience. As soon as you enter the resturant the staff are there to greet you and make you feel welcome. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the staff very friendly and knowledgeable. The meal itself exceptional, everything was delicious, and the fresh. I would recommend Botanist to anyone looking to try one of the best dining establishments that Vancouver has to offer.
