Set in Kansas City’s historic City Market, Brown and Loe Restaurant’s inviting atmosphere is a blend of “big city” bistro with the welcoming casual flavor of a neighborhood favorite. Housed in a former Merchant’s Bank constructed in 1920, the restaurant honors the architectural details of the two-story building which features a façade of plate glass and verde marble floors and walls.
In the 1940’s, Brown and Loe was originally a produce broker with offices on the second floor of the Merchant’s Bank building. The new Brown and Loe Restaurant celebrates the techniques of curing, pickling and smoking meats, beautifully interpreted into marvelous American comfort cuisine. This is a true local venue, evidenced by the restaurant’s allegiance to the resident farmers and food artisans who supply most of the restaurant’s fresh ingredients.
Brown and Loe Restaurant is the second dining concept introduced by Harry Murphy, owner of the City Market’s popular Harry’s Country Club.

I was definitely not expecting for me to love this place so much. I guess I was just surprised that it is not advertised more. Perfect for date night, and perfect location. I loved the ambiance and just the overall feel of this place. Our waitress was amazing! I am so sorry, I forgot her name but the meatloaf is her favorite and it was so good. Thanks for a lovely evening!

Food was great. However, apparently the power went out and it took a long time for our meal. Breakfast became a 2 hour event. Would have been nice to offer us a discount or additional Al drinks as we waited. That was disappointing.

Had a great selection on the menu and their special of fried catfish was fantastic. My jerk chicken was dry which is hard to do for a chicken thigh. But it was way over cooked or precooked too long ago. Rest of the experience was great and our server was amazing.

This is such a special little place carved out of a corner in City Market. We’ve been here a handful of times now and it’s always for a celebration. We have absolutely nothing bad to say about the service or food. Sitting out in the patio is such a treat! It’s beautiful out there next to the small nursery that hugs the patio.Highly recommend stopping in for a delicious cocktail and brunch. Its a true KC gem!

Brown & Loe is my go to favorite for meeting friends halfway between the Northland and South metro area. The staff is always friendly and efficient, the food excellent. My only issue during my last visit was that the food wasn’t warm, almost room temp. In spite of that it was still delicious. When crowded, it gets very noisy and the tables are close together but the staff has always been accommodating and helpful in seating us where we are comfortable.

We were visiting from out of town, and this was a recommended restaurant. We made reservations using OpenTable. The staff was friendly and attentive. It was cool that they kept the building's history by preserving original architectural details. However, I think this led to the higher noise level because of the acoustics. Now to the most important part, the food. It was prepared perfectly. I had the rib-eye, a sizeable portion seasoned beautifully with scrumptious sides. My family members had pork chop and salmon plates and were equally impressed. I only wish we had more room for dessert, but I plan to return, so I have something to look forward to!

Food tasted great with a good selection of options. Cocktails were all very good with some nicer options that are not going to be available everywhere. Sat outside on the patio as it was great weather and the outdoor patio space is situated in a spot that is great if you want to people watch. This is especially true if you go on a day the farmers market is operating. Service was very good and waitress was on top of things but could have checked in a bit more initially as we were sat. However, we were waiting on a person to arrive so I understand we were not a priority. Pricing is reasonable for the food, drinks, and atmosphere that is provided.

Enjoyed the morning at the river market and brunch on a bussling beautiful Saturday, one of my daughters very favorite thing to do, and seemed fitting for her birthday. Made reservations, and arrived sooner than expected and the hostess team was very kind and help us get in to our table. We opted for the vault room but we very loud with the big party outside our room, their loud voices echoed into the vault. The food was good - I ordered the croquet and it was incredibly spicy- and didn’t see anything about that on the menu so unfortunately I couldn’t eat it. I will know better next time. Appreciate the hospitality.

They bill themselves as “American cuisine”, and it is, but the spicing and inventiveness borrows from countries all over the world. The split pea-spinach soup with yellow curry was excellent. The calimari and sauces superb; deviled eggs sublime. Coffee cake dessert and blueberry-banana sorbet very unique and delicious. Jameson was a great server. Highly recommend!

Everything was really great with tasty drinks and food. I simply did not like our seating so close to the door on such a cold night. Especially since we were crammed right next to the hostess stand we could hear that even though others didn’t haven’t reservations like us, they got what would been preferred seating.

A wonderful venue (former produce bank) for a wonderful dining experience. Service is outstanding. Knowledge of the menu and specials was outstanding. The food- exceptional - each entree chosen exceeded expectations. Highly recommended - from appetizers through dessert , all items are uniquely Brown & Loe’s and delicious.
