Our home, Callington Mill, lies in Tasmania's picturesque Heartlands. It was built in 1837 for two reasons: to legally grind flour, and to illegally make whisky. After nearly two hundred years, we're proud to return the mill to its original, illicit purpose - now perfectly legal, of course.

    Easy booking. Friendly knowledgeable staff helped us make selections with both food and drinks. Beautiful surroundings Wide choice of delicious food, with great serving sizes. Enjoyed a relaxed wonderful afternoon. Don’t stop at just the restaurant as you can do a tour of the distillery as well as the stunningly restored buildings on the grounds. Definitely worth a visit.

    we were greeted on arrival by welcoming waiter who showed us our table, explained the menu and offered accurate suggestions as to the number of dishes likely to satisfy the 4 of us. Wine list was of interest and the "house spirits" definitely worth trying.

At our whisky distillery, our priority is providing a unique culinary experience that complements our spirits. Our aim isn't to maximise profits from food dishes - only to optimise the experience. We’ve undertaken extensive competitive research and believe our prices are below or on par with the market - and our portions are greater than most other restaurants. To deliver a restaurant offer of this calibre, in a remote town like Oatlands, is challenging from a logistics and costs perspective. We’re very saddened you were disappointed with our prices and portion sizes and sincerely hope that our reply might help clarify our predicament.

    We celebrated my fathers birthday at the Mill and before going I read the review. 99% of the reviews were either 4-5 stars with a couple low ones that seemed quite whingey. Rest assured this place is deserved of its rating. The food was prepared immaculately and tasted just as good. The wine was beautiful as well and on par with any in the country (I live just south of the Barossa) The service was faultless. Warm, friendly and attentive. In a township that has been crying out for even a simple pub for years, this place is an essential stop for those travelling through the midlands. Well done.

    Great concept, has the wow factor to take interstate guests. We are Builders (redeveloped The Spring Bay Mill) and really appreciate the quality and workmanship in the buildings including the distilling apparatus! Have visited 5 times and we’ll be back….

    We both believe the scallops were over cooked and so was the snapper which was rubbery. The twice cooked pork belly was not as expected either with the fat still uncooked and not edible.

    The 4 of us had a wonderful long lunch at Callington Mill this week. We started with oysters, scallops and arancini which were all delicious. My snapper with toasted coconut crust was sublime. My companions all had the steak cooked medium rare. It was cooked very well although they all found the outside of the fillet which had been salted was way too salty so they cut the edges off their steaks. We shared desserts of chocolate cake and apple crumble which were delicious. Great service from the attentive wait staff. We'll be back.

    It was our first time at Callington Mill Distillery. The service was excellent and the food top notch. People had told us it was expensive but it was actually reasonable for the quality. Just towards the end, a fire alarm went off and we had to evacuate, but we still feel it was an enjoyable experience. Will definitely go back again.

    Second time we’ve been to Callington Mill for lunch and again didn’t disappoint. The eye filet melted in the mouth and the charcuterie board was spectacular and very large. The service is impeccable and very knowledgeable about the whiskey from their distillery.

    The overall experience was absolutely fantastic. The venue is bright and open and has views of the property and distillery in all directions. The service staff were very welcoming and on the ball without being overbearing. The food was fresh and very well prepared and presented.     It was fantastic. A great stop in the way from Launceston to Hobart. From now on I will stop in Oatlands instead of Campbell town. I hope they can keep up the quality of food, it was amazing.

    Such a beautiful location. Food was lovely and staff very friendly. The only downfall was that everything came out at once - cold starters and hot mains that we all sharing. We just needed to ask for them to be staggered. No big deal but felt a little rushed.

    Another outstanding dining experience. Food was exceptional. Real value for money, and just to top it all off, because it was Mother’s Day, we received a complimentary gift. What a lovely surprise. This was a special event for us, as my son gifted the experience for his step mum, so it was a lovely time. And what a setting. I think we may well become “regular” diners.

    Enjoyable meal for booking for 10 people. Making a reservation is a must during busy season and accommodated my late number increase from 6 to 10. Good choices of food available for mains and desserts. Something to suit most tastes and needs. Share plates available with sides as extra. Tried the whisky and gin tastings at meals end. Wait staff were friendly and efficient. Great atmosphere of friendliness with a great welcome on entry to restaurant. Well done and very pleasant to get restaurant service at this venue.
