The food was not great and was extremely over priced, unfortunately there was not one part of the menu that was passable for the price. the wine pairing was less than satisfactory through the entire experience you recieve the equivalence of one glass of wine for $77 dollars.
The service was top notch the waitress and waiters were great. Other than that I do not recommend.
Phenomenal experience. Very good value. The plates were all well executed and delicious.
Food was great and service was polite. However, I wish the servers were more attentive and really explained the ingredients and where they were sourced from. I felt a little rushed when the servers would just come out and give us the next meal without truly explaining it.
Really good food through the location wasn’t what I was expecting. A bit plain and almost strip mall like setting but the food was out of this world. I appreciated they had pearl morisette wine on their list given that the winery is sold out for the year.
Definitely deserving of the accolades overall, really enjoyable experience for my wife and I.
Phenomenal. We just moved here from Northern California and have had our share of Michelin starred meals. Canis is the best dinner I’ve had since moving to Toronto. Very well done.
We kept raving about how good every course was - delicious and beautiful plating
From start to finish, the meal at Canis was superb. We chose their tasting menu without any alterations and without the drink parings, and each course was carefully crafted and displayed high level of finesse. I can still remember every course and the delight it offered, from the freshly-baked bread to the powerful chicken liver parfait, from the delightfully rich lobster and corn to the simple but striking flavors of the pork belly. I myself am not a huge fan of desserts, but it was definitely a highlight of the meal, with the buttermilk and rhubarb desert being a delight to all senses. The course was rounded off with a full peach experience: peach jam on a peach ice cream, with a peach tart. The balance of flavors was done wonderfully, and the whole experience left us quite full and satisfied.
Top 3 restaurant in the City. Jeff Kang is a phenomenal chef. I came with my pregnant wife and we were FULLY accommodated. Everyone should go for every menu change.
The menu is a tasting menu of about 10 courses for $80 rather reasonable for this type of dining. The restaurant is quite casual however and might disappoint if you’re trying to impress guests with the surrounding and atmosphere. However the FOOD will certainly impress! Everything is attractively presented and good. Be warned however that the online menu and even the menu presented to you at your table may not be what you will receive. They change parts of the menu on a regular basis but don’t update the printed menu. Mine showed one course as Duck and I asked if they could change it. The Chef agreed and I got Short Rib which is al o not a favorite. But then at the end of the meal when I asked about how often menu was changed, another server replied it varies from day to day ‘and as example we replaced the Duck with Chicken tonight!’ Too bad they didn’t tell that to me! Access to restroom is down a steep set of stairs.
The care and consideration put into every decision—from what flatware or plateware you got for what dish to the number and positioning of thyme leaves on a parfait to the progression of the meal to the every single perfect bite of food—was spectacular. Canis might have ruined me for other restaurants!

Not as good as the fave reviews on here but not as bad as the nasty reviews on here either. Somewhere definitely in between. You do get a lot of food with tasting menu and most of the courses are high quality, just not in the same stratosphere as a Michelin starred restaurant. Your dollars can be spent somewhere else and I believe the options in Toronto will be numerous for you to have an overall better experience than at this restaurant.

Fantastic multi course, fixed menu. Courses are small as would be expected but let feeling full. The two desserts were particularly exceptional on our visit.
I loved my meal here! Imaginative and delicious. There were no good non-alcoholic drinks options, which was a surprise -- I think coke, ginger ale, and ginger beer. All of these would knock the hell out of your palate... non-drinkers appreciate nice drinks too and I would have been happy to pay for a nice craft tonic water, or even soda & shrub or syrup. Or literally anything that would have paired well with the food! It felt like they just grabbed a few cans of pop from the store to have around, in case kids were there or something? Haha. Still an incredibly wonderful meal. I probably won't be back... it didn't feel great to be treated as though it was weird to be requesting something thoughtfully non-booze. Hopefully they can make a small change here, in which case I'd love to go again.
The staff were very friendly and the food was very delicious. The most notably is the foie gras tart topped with parsley and celery dust. Simple presentation but the food was full of flavours. Would love to go back.
We were the last table but even so the staff was very patient we weren’t being rushed to leave the restaurant. Creative and flavourful dishes as usual, another wonderful experience!

Great for dating and yummy food
we had a wonderful experience at Canis. From the amazing bread at the beginning, the delightful appetizers with perfectly balanced flavours and textures to the gorgeous mains and desserts at the end, it was all perfect. The only negative was that the size of the wine pairings was a little on the small side. That said, the wines were creatively chosen and beautifully paired with the plates. We are looking forward to our next visit.
The food was excellent but the matching wine pairing was substantially over-valued. Skip the wine. Eat the food.
Absolutely amazing. Taste better than La Banane.
I’ve had better meals at Chipotle; at least the staff wasn’t rude to my pregnant friend. It was the most HORRIFIC experience I’ve ever had at any restaurant.
My friend is pregnant and had emailed them three days in advance to ensure that they can accommodate. When we got there, we made checked in with them again to make sure that they were aware of this.
By the third course, my friend was offered a poached egg with some ‘vegetable mixture’. My friend then said to them, poached eggs are raw, I cannot eat this as it can make both the baby and I very sick.
We overheard some arguments in the kitchen on the poached egg and shortly was brought back the course with the egg removed. By this point, I had to say something because this was the THIRD course that they served without any protein!!!
When asked about it, the chef said ‘well I offered you a poached egg and you didn’t want it’. My friend then had to explain to the chef the definition of ‘RAW’ which is that if the yolk is runny, it is RAW. He gave us a lot of attitude then for making it seem like we didn’t know what we were talking about.
I then asked why no substitutions are available (even for the other courses) as we had emailed so many days in advance. He responded with ALOT of attitude that this is a TASTING MENU. (Sure - that CANNOT accommodate for any food sensitives OR women carrying our future)
I’m sorry but I’ve been to restaurants all over the world, or even SUNSET GRILL that understood food restrictions ESPECIALLY when it comes to the safety of another human being.
I felt so ripped off for what I had paid for my friend to eat grass, and the fact that we were treated like second class citizens when really it’s the customers that keeps you in you friggin MINDLESS JOB.
In addition, for a ‘fine dining’ restaurant, the ambiance was REALLY bad. If you’ve been to any Korean restaurant where you have to hold onto the stair rail for your life to get to the bathroom, this restaurant is EXACTLY that.
Impeccable. Twice ate here and was blown away each time. Can’t wait to come back.

Second visit to CANIS. Place is a gem. Well worth the visit. A delightful culinary tryst with all the adventure of a first date in a relaxed and unpretentious atmosphere allowing one the comfort of a first anniversary. Throw caution to the wind and charge through the full tasting menu... you won’t regret a single bite!

Canis gives breath of fresh air to restaurant scene in Toronto. Casual yet composed setting provides comfortable backdrop where Chef’s interpretation of Canadian cuisine shines through. Instinctively appealing to palates, progression of narrative in dishes married with attentive service brings best of fine restaurant without pretension. If you want to know where Toronto’s food scene is heading, go to Canis.
Probably the second best tasting menu I've ever had, and definitely the best value for price (for reference, the best I had was in Athens, Greece, which costed double Canis's menu at 150 Euros / person). Every dish was flawless in terms of taste and plating, yet every new dish that came still seemed to surpass the amazing dishes that came before it. The portion sizes were surprisingly large for a tasting-menu-only restaurant, with large, hearty portions across the board, and two full, perfectly cooked bone-in veal chops, sliced thinly, as the finale of the savory part of the meal (for a group of 3: it appeared to be one veal chop for every two people eating).
Of special note was the ability of the chefs at Canis to accommodate dietary restrictions. My grandmother is vegetarian and my grandfather has a gluten allergy, yet the chefs at Canis were nevertheless able to re-purpose offending dishes to accommodate them without losing the essential essence of the dish, which I believe is often very difficult and would commend them highly for. I would especially commend their vegetarian menu for my grandmother, as not only did they keep the essential parts of the meal, for every piece of every dish that they modified or removed, they added something to make each vegetarian dish just as special as our non-vegetarian dishes. Again, I have eaten at many high-end restaurants with much worse service for dietary restrictions, so I would especially like to commend Canis for their masterful accommodations.
The one and only negative note I have for Canis is that the dining experience is very loud. The restaurant is quite small, and when the house is packed (it was when we ate) it was almost too loud for us to hear each other talk. However, the supreme quality of everything else about Canis makes this merely a small setback for an otherwise mind-blowing dining experience. Overall I was extremely impressed with Canis, and am already salivating at the thought of going back.
The food was good but a bit over priced. It was also difficult to hear the descriptions of food and wine due to the noise level of the room.
We were looking forward to trying this restaurant for a few months. It’s been highly recommended by a lot of my friends within the Industry.
Upon arrival, ambiance was kind of cold, no warm welcome. Between this and the decor, the vibe wasn’t very comfortable.
We ordered the 8 course tasting menu. Food was amazing. Plating well executed. We thoroughly enjoyed all of the dishes, apart from the pork - texture was off. Dessert was the shining star. For the price that we paid, service felt too casual. Overall a good experience, but something you only experience once. We will not return, but glad we could try it out. Would recommend.
Nous avons été, dans l'ensemble, déçus de ce qui nous a été présenté. La présentation des plats était grossière (surtout l'entrée de thon &concombre), la plupart des plats manquait de sauce et la pièce de boeuf en finale était extrêmement grasse et manquait aussi de finesse.
Tasting menu was beautifully presented. Flavours were so unique. The care taken and quality of every ingredient is evident. Service was exceptional. Wine list is beautiful and selections were perfect. The space is minimalist, but still warm and relaxed. Highly recommend.

Best meal of the year. From the incredible food to the thoughtfulness of the menu and plates, this is hands down one of the best restaurants in Canada. Do the full menu. Worth every penny for the multiple foodgasms.
Amazing dining experience with fresh local ingredients, been meaning to go for a while and not disappointed despite my high expectations. Can't wait to visit again
