Named after the Canje pheasant, national bird of Guyana, Canje pulls inspiration not just from mainland Guyana, but from Jamaica to Puerto Rico, and all the islands in between. Our menu explores the cooking techniques, ingredients, and many expressions of vibrant food across the region.

Every dish was exceptional. Service was informed and attentive. We asked to be moved to a quiet area because the main seating is loud. They were incredibly responsive. People want to have conversations over a fine meal. Make that easier to attain.

Where should I start? Everything about this restaurant was amazing, 5 stars. The service was personable and engaging. The plates were flavorful and exciting. The ambiance was cozy but also festive. The owner is such a kind and fun person & he really helped make our experience special. The Pepperpot and the Roti were our favorite dishes and the first dance cocktail was refreshing and perfectly paired with the meal. We will definitely be returning soon!

We enjoyed everything we had. Jerk chicken was very good and had a good heat. Ceviche was excellent! Roti was salty in the best way and the plantains were fantastic. I’d like to try more!

Make your reservation well in advance! (Like, weeks ahead of time.) Canje is a fun, lively setting with excellent food and service. Really good options that are both gluten-free and dairy-free, which makes it a rarity for those with such dietary restrictions. We enjoyed the plantain chips for a starter, then shared the sea bass, pepperpot, Trinidadian rice, and callaloo. Amazingly, this left enough room for dessert of sorbet (for the non-dairy person) and pineapple upside-down cake for me.

Enjoyed are second dinner at Canje as much as the first. We sat at the bar and let our server know that we needed to get out by certain time to catch a show, and Andrew made sure we were well taken care of. I was tough to not make the same selections as last time, but we were pleased to find new favorites with some of our selections. I look forward to finding another opportunity to go back.

Our experience was extraordinary from the very moment we sat down. Our server, David, was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu and was clearly passionate about the dishes he recommended, and the wine pairing he selected was perfect. Head Chef, Harvard, personally delivered several dishes, and took the time to describe the many intricate steps to create the complex & delicious sauces, sides and entrees. The highlight of our evening was getting to meet the kitchen staff who made the magic. This restaurant exceeded all of our very high expectations and has set the bar for every other restaurant we visit. It was a sublime meal, an incredible experience created by people who love food and love serving.

Didn't like it so much, I had much higher expectations. The food was ok, but the service was not so nice as the personnel seemed to be willing to rush you out of the restaurant. Friendly, Cousy, and a fair cuisine, but not at all something remarkable.

As Soon as We walked in I was Yelling my name to the greeter…Music Very Loud They were attentive and funny… Stuck us in a side room behind the bar Little or no atmosphere…Still Loud Music Not a place to visit and eat Food was Surprisingly Delicious..EVERYTHING Server was helpful…Hate when bill comes with just an amount…I need an itemized bill for all the reasons you know…He brought me one ASAP The evening was fine…Been there Done That

Even after the NY Times article and getting the "Best Of" in the Austin Chronical, Canje lives up to the hype. The food, drinks and service were outstanding and the space was lively and impeccably stylish while still conjuring its roots.

Worth the splurge! Fabulous service, not only from our server Daryl, but also from the entire staff: Everyone worked together to ensure we got our orders right away and had everything we needed from the time we were seated to when we left. Not a bad dish or drink; we particularly enjoyed the albacore ceviche, the Georgetown cocktail, the jerk chicken, and the roti. I was bracing myself for the loud music mentioned in other reviews, but found the music added to the atmosphere and w the volume was appropriate for us to enjoy our table conversation.

Everything about my experience at Canje was astounding. The food, the attentive and friendly service, and the ambiance all contributed to an absolutely fantastic culinary experience. I tried the plantain chips (NOT sleep on the coconut aioli dip) the oxtail beef , patties, the waygu curry AND the wild boar pepper pot with house roti, the squash, and the okra. Then I also had the tres leches with pear jam for dessert and the kitchen sent out an absolutely incredible little nutmeg icecream sando that blew my mind. I would absolutely order it all again, it was so delicious.

10/10 this is my second time to Canje and I had an amazing time. The oxtail patties are to die for and the sauce is the extra kick that you never knew you needed! The jerk chicken and rice, INSANE COMBINATION you stomach will love you later !

We sat outside, but were grateful to get a last-minute reservation on a Friday night. The food was good. We had the fried plantains as an appetizer, it came with two sauces: a salsa and an aoli. The aoli needed more of a tangy punch to offset the fatty mayo taste. Hubs had the jerk chicken and liked it. Said it was very spicy. (True to what the server said.) I had the sea bass. The sauce was very good. Tangy and punchy and a nice complement to the fish. The fish was a thinner cut of sea bass. I’m used to a thicker cut, and would have felt more luxurious given the nearly $30 price for the dish. The deep bowl also made it a tad harder to eat. A lower profile bowl would have been preferred. Good food. But no desire to return again soon. Pricey.

The staff were conveyed concern that my dinner companion wouldn’t arrive for 30 minutes, but they were nonetheless very understanding and patient. After navigating I-35 during rainy traffic conditions, my partner eventually made it and we had a wonderful time. The food and service was delivered with care and diligence. The atmosphere was very lively and the music playlist was tasteful and top-notch.

The food and flavors were amazing. We started with the plantain chips and the ceviche. Love that they served it with taro chips! Then we shared the wild boar pepper pot and pork chop. The flavors in these sauces were so unique and incredible. We finished with the tres leches for desert. This is a must stop if you are visiting Austin! And absolutely get their Sol Calypso, without a doubt the best cocktail we had during our weekend getaway trip!

The food was amazing. We chose several dishes and the kitchen/server determined what the best order to bring them was. It was all family style, and everything was fantastic, especially the ceviche. The only drag was how loud it was. I could barely hear the person sitting next to me, let alone the server or the other person on the other side of the table. We would have stayed for dessert if it had not been so loud, but instead we left and got ice cream elsewhere.

A remarkable meal! The cocktails and food were exceptional good. The waitstaff were friendly, attentive and knowledgable. The place was beautifully decorated and had a cool vibe. Don’t miss the oxtail beef patties or jerk chicken - both were the best we had ever had!

Everything from the food amd service was great. The staff went over the menu and actually ask about food allergies. Being I'm allergic to mango it prevented me from being able too try certain dishes like the curry. I know people in some reviews complained about the prices, but I believe that if you really want good food then you're willing to pay for it. This isn't a fast food restaurant. Overall all we enjoyed ourselves and will be returning.
