Named after the Canje pheasant, national bird of Guyana, Canje pulls inspiration not just from mainland Guyana, but from Jamaica to Puerto Rico, and all the islands in between. Our menu explores the cooking techniques, ingredients, and many expressions of vibrant food across the region.

Tucked away on the east side of Austin, this lively environment brings a unique cocktail program boasting both spirit forward and fruit driven cocktails and a small selection of natural wines alongside our inventive food menu.

Canje is simply amazing. From the moment you walk in to the moment you walk out, everything is awesome! This was our second time and it reinforced our first, fantastic experience! PEPPER POT - Why is this so good WAGYU CURRY - Omg put it in my veins JERK CHICKEN - HOLY. COW. It may seem like the ‘basic’ option to get chicken, but WOW the flavor and the heat. Seasonal (Eggplant) Choka was yummy! SMOKED AVOCADO - food science of texture and flavors, sweet savory smoky TRES LECHES - so moist & airy + bomb icing PINEAPPLE UPSIDE CAKE - incredible caramelization Oh yes, we will be back.

The best dinner of my life. Valet does come with reservation, they go above and beyond to curate a one of a kind experience that goes beyond any price on a menu. Do what you can to get here! Moments and experiences like these are what life is all about and I found it hard not to get emotional at such an experience. If gathering around a table, sharing a meal, and learning a culture through their food is important to you; there is no other task to accomplish than getting your butt to Canje when in Austin.

Came for my fiancée’s birthday. First, I’ll note that from when we arrived until we left, every staff member wished her a happy birthday, which was nice touch. The food was excellent. The pepperpot was outstanding, and the jerk chicken was tasty, spicy, and massive. I also enjoyed the greens, which had a complex flavor. Suffice to say, I was happy to leave with a doggy bag.

I had been waiting to eat here for a while after many trips into town. They didn’t disappoint. Service was great with recommendations for my guest who didn’t know the cuisine. I can’t say enough about the hospitality and more importantly the passion that went into the food. You can feel the energy. If you love spicy, don’t miss their signature dish.

Where should I start? Everything about this restaurant was amazing, 5 stars. The service was personable and engaging. The plates were flavorful and exciting. The ambiance was cozy but also festive. The owner is such a kind and fun person & he really helped make our experience special. The Pepperpot and the Roti were our favorite dishes and the first dance cocktail was refreshing and perfectly paired with the meal. We will definitely be returning soon!

Make your reservation well in advance! (Like, weeks ahead of time.) Canje is a fun, lively setting with excellent food and service. Really good options that are both gluten-free and dairy-free, which makes it a rarity for those with such dietary restrictions. We enjoyed the plantain chips for a starter, then shared the sea bass, pepperpot, Trinidadian rice, and callaloo. Amazingly, this left enough room for dessert of sorbet (for the non-dairy person) and pineapple upside-down cake for me.

Enjoyed are second dinner at Canje as much as the first. We sat at the bar and let our server know that we needed to get out by certain time to catch a show, and Andrew made sure we were well taken care of. I was tough to not make the same selections as last time, but we were pleased to find new favorites with some of our selections. I look forward to finding another opportunity to go back.

Our experience was extraordinary from the very moment we sat down. Our server, David, was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu and was clearly passionate about the dishes he recommended, and the wine pairing he selected was perfect. Head Chef, Harvard, personally delivered several dishes, and took the time to describe the many intricate steps to create the complex & delicious sauces, sides and entrees. The highlight of our evening was getting to meet the kitchen staff who made the magic. This restaurant exceeded all of our very high expectations and has set the bar for every other restaurant we visit. It was a sublime meal, an incredible experience created by people who love food and love serving.

Worth the splurge! Fabulous service, not only from our server Daryl, but also from the entire staff: Everyone worked together to ensure we got our orders right away and had everything we needed from the time we were seated to when we left. Not a bad dish or drink; we particularly enjoyed the albacore ceviche, the Georgetown cocktail, the jerk chicken, and the roti. I was bracing myself for the loud music mentioned in other reviews, but found the music added to the atmosphere and w the volume was appropriate for us to enjoy our table conversation.

Everything about my experience at Canje was astounding. The food, the attentive and friendly service, and the ambiance all contributed to an absolutely fantastic culinary experience. I tried the plantain chips (NOT sleep on the coconut aioli dip) the oxtail beef , patties, the waygu curry AND the wild boar pepper pot with house roti, the squash, and the okra. Then I also had the tres leches with pear jam for dessert and the kitchen sent out an absolutely incredible little nutmeg icecream sando that blew my mind. I would absolutely order it all again, it was so delicious.

We sat outside, but were grateful to get a last-minute reservation on a Friday night. The food was good. We had the fried plantains as an appetizer, it came with two sauces: a salsa and an aoli. The aoli needed more of a tangy punch to offset the fatty mayo taste. Hubs had the jerk chicken and liked it. Said it was very spicy. (True to what the server said.) I had the sea bass. The sauce was very good. Tangy and punchy and a nice complement to the fish. The fish was a thinner cut of sea bass. I’m used to a thicker cut, and would have felt more luxurious given the nearly $30 price for the dish. The deep bowl also made it a tad harder to eat. A lower profile bowl would have been preferred. Good food. But no desire to return again soon. Pricey.
