Way better places to go for Italian in Ottawa. Pasta sauce was oily and meatballs were undercooked. Although the restaurant is a nice setting, there are many other spots in the city with a better vibe and edible food. Very expensive for what you get here and slow service.

Carpaccio was very tasty however grilled bread had too much salt in it. Calamari also tasty but overcooked and also quite salty. Insalata Mista was fabulous! Loved the puffed farro, the nice mix of greens and great dressing The lamb Ragu was awesome I’d go back just for that! The cantina Gia red was a great pairing with all of the food. Our server was lovely and did a super job! Overall great experience!

Pasta was nothing special. When I found a bone in the lamb ragu all they offered was a 15% discount on the dish - could have broken a tooth or choked. They did give us the dessert for free but one wonders if they would have offered it, if we hadn't ordered a dessert. My friend's seafood risotto was like a soup rather than as it should be prepared. Overall a big disappointment.

I ordered the seafood rissoto. Bad choice! Very little seafood (2 each scallops and shrimps; + 4-5 very small mussels. The rissoto although flavourful, the texture was soupy "slop". Once more it was served on a plate instead of a bowl and was cold in minutes. I ate 1/3 of it and left the rest. I've eaten there numerous times and have enjoyed it but not this time. Very dissatisfied.

We like to support new places that are local and not chains so 3 of us were hopeful. The menu contained a lot of words that we didn't know about and that is OK -we like to learn, but no one came around and clarified for us so we had to get out our cellphones - hate doing that while at the table. The meals looked great but mine didn't taste like much and there was a lot more of polenta than anything else. My friends did not say much about their meals in order to not hurt my feelings as I chose the place. The restaurant itself is nice and the staff were attentive but I was disappointed.

This is my second time coming to Cantina Gia and it won't be my last. We had the most amazing service, our waitress (I'm sorry I don't remember the name) was extremely attentive and helpful when deciding what to order and made sure to answer all of our many questions. I would highly recommend Cantina Gia to anyone I encounter.

Some sound baffles would improve this restaurant as you have to almost yell when busy. Pancakes were great but someone needs to show kitchen staff how to cut a grapefruit for their side dish. Gilled halves arrived almost impossible to eat and cold. Also no spoons - they went hunting and found us soup spoons. Serated small grapefruit spoons exist for good reason!

The food is always amazing and the service is top-notch! Wine is good and the desserts are great! I love their home made pasta, so fresh. It is a little bit on the louder side, so go with friends and laugh.

Lovely eatery with a menu to suit all tastes. The focaccia is amazing and the Brussels sprouts divine. The atmosphere was relaxing although it was a bit too dark to properly read the menu. Otherwise I would highly recommend Gia Cantina.

From the moment we sat down the server was bugging us about ordering, and repeatedly asked about the next course and reminded us about the timing of the table. Only after we gulped down our wine did she mention that they could have recorked the bottle for take home. I've never been hustled through a meal so much in my life. Very unpleasant. Too bad - food was good and well-priced.

Very nice ambiance, staff were great as well. The burrata was amazing as were the brussel sprouts and the rosemary potatoes. Huge portion sizes. The pork i ordered i will not order again as it was so thin and dry it was tasteless. The chicken was juicy and excellent. The dessert was very good but for 100$ a person without alcohol i would have liked my main dish to at least be good if not perfect.
