We don't come here enough. The chef/owner is imaginative and very efficient. I would highly recommend this restaurant (in its new space) to anyone. The new location should allow him and his staff to really expand and showcase what honest fusion cuisine can be!!
Side note: two of our staffers ate there, bookend our visit and raved about it. One was a four top with two young adults and the other was a four top of mature adults. Everyone was very impressed.
Magdalena and the whole crew who were working the day I went were incredible. Such wonderful, kind and attentive servers. I ordered the Kaiseki, and everything was absolutely delicious.
We decided to try this restaurant based on raving reviews from friends and the public. We were disappointed although some of the dishes are quite good. The mussels appetizer has a very nice spicy tomato broth. The Agedeshi mozzarella was nice as well. The gyoza dinner on the special menu was disappointing, the dumplings were actually cold inside! The $49 steak was very ordinary and nothing special so we did not think it's a good value. The worst was the ice cream puff dessert. The puff pastry felt very old and not fresh at all!
The restaurant is also very understaffed with only 2 servers for the whole place. The servers tried very hard but they were too busy to even refill water and it was not easy to get their attention.
Overall we were not impressed but I am willing to give it another try perhaps on a less busy night.
We always enjoy Carino.
Love this restaurant!
Great food, great service, great new location is more spacious!
Delicious fusion. Lots of favor and depth in each dish.
Had a great time. The ambiance and the food were great
Great food. Japanese-Italian fusion dishes were excellent combinations!
We had another wonderful meal at Carino Riserva this evening. We really enjoyed the Spicy Tuna Tartare, Seafood Spaghetti special, and Pescatore with Curry Risotto. The Chef's dessert was also delicious. Twiggy was our server and provided us with great service, even though the restaurant was full. We look forward to going to their new, bigger location (just a few doors down) which should open soon. Keep up the good work!
The food was excellent- although more Italian than Japanese, the dishes we tried, 2 seafood & the duck, all had an interesting new flavour.
Only very small complaint was the music - not really compatible with the sophisticated meal.
Great food. Very professional staff.
Can't think of a reason not to recommend this place to my friends.
Delicious, innovative food. Loved their vegetarian options and that they have gluten free noodles. Have already recommended it to several friends.
This restaurant has become one of my favourite hidden gems in the city, I have never had a meal that wasn’t fantastic and can’t wait to go back to try another fantastic dish.
We have been several times and ordered different dishes and appetizers. Have not been disappointed.
The only issue is sometimes they are understaffed and it may be awhile to get some attention.
Love the place..
First time at Carino and had the Kaisaki Tasting menu. Food was amazing and service was warm. I wish they had a bigger space but that’s just me getting distracted with the conversations around me.
fantastic food as always. My wife and I love to come here every couple of weeks
Took my son for his 18th birthday and it was a fabulous experience. He wanted to try sake for the first time and was given the advice to try the plum sake. It was an instant favourite. He was a little leery of fusion but discovered this restaurant has made it an art form. We had the specials which I wouldn’t be able to remember how to spell but we’re extremely tasty. For dessert the chef’s special is a definite must with the creme brule being the best I’ve ever had. The server was attentive and helpful. We’ll definitely be coming back.
Server was amazing, went over the menu with us and sang happy birthday for us!
I love this place. Perfect place to go to on a date
Excellent food as always
Interesting cuisine. We shared the salmon tataki, the tuna tartar and the gyosalasagna. All were great, the gyosa is very rich and perfect for two small portions. The service was really good. Small place, great food. We will be back.
Erin was absolutely amazing. The food was unbelievable. Highly recommend
First time at this restaurant, and wasn’t sure what to expect. Certainly, the food was GREAT and it is a nice gem for a casual meal. However the ambiance was a little lower-end than we expected so wouldn’t recommend if looking for something upscale. The venue is quite small and was pretty crowded, with dirty, crumpled paper menus and wobbly tables. Service was really slow as there was only one waiter and the restraint was full. Drink menu is super limited - ie wine and beer, no cocktails.
Got the tonkatsu Cabonara and pescatore with curry rissoto ! Both were such amazinng dishes! Love the fusion it goes so well! The tonkatsu was delicious, the breading of it crispy and nice , had really good seasoning that tied the dish well together! Curry risotto was so hearty and had a generous amount of clams!!!. Me and my boyfriend couldnt decide which dish we liked better
Service was great!
This restaurant has never disappointed. It is our favourite. Parking at times is an issue but besides that, the food is unbelievable and I highly recommend this Japanese Italian fusion restaurant to everyone. Once you try it, it will become your favourite as well!
One of the best and most consistent meals in Calagary
Excellent food and exciting but quaint atmosphere. Hard to have personal conversation because table are very close.
Great spot; wonderful service and delicious food!!
AMAZING food. The gyozagna is absolutely one of the best meals I've had all year.
Excellent little place - one of our favourites. Always accommodating!
Always a great place to visit - always my fave place to go to and everyone that I’ve intro’d to this place has loved it, hands down!!
One of my favourite restaurants. Very creative dishes. A fusion of not just Japanese and Italian elements, but also French. The foie gras icecream puffs are a must!
The food was mostly great but drink menu was not that great
The menu was well thought out and very unique. I didn't know what to order because everything looked so good! Restaurant is small and cozy, so better for intimate groups.
Serves were super friendly and curry risotto was delicious
Everything we ordered was delicious! I made a reservation for my fiancés birthday and they seated us next to the window, which I thought was the best seat in the house. It’s such a cute little restaurant and our server was so nice! Although the service was a bit slow (there was only one waitress there so I understand, and it was a full house that night). I made a note saying I had a nut allergy and they made sure that my dish didn’t have any nuts. They also made the effort of putting a sparkler in my fiancé’s dessert! All the pastas that we ordered was sooo good. Definitely coming back to try more!
The food is always amazing at Carino. It’s a great go to favourite and never disappoints.
This is a little gem on 4th street that isn’t nearly as busy as it should be. I’ve dined on several occasions and the food has been outstanding each time! I recommend the scallops and risotto each of which was done to perfection. The service has always been attentive without being obtrusive. You can go Japanese or Italian or both with some amazing fusions available, often as a special. If you haven’t tried it, try it!
Never fails to disappoint! The vongole is one of the best pasta dishes I have had. The carbonara is creamy and delicious too! Definitely recommend.
