Another good dining experience here at ChouChou. Love the new interior look; fresh, clean, spacious and bright. Definitely a rare fine in the neighborhood!
It was great to not have to cook on Thanksgiving! The food at Chou Chou was fantastic as always. The service was great and it made for a delightful cap to a wonderful day.
We love coming to Chou Chou. Food is delicious and service is excellent. They have a very nice and warm outdoor dining patio :-)
Great food and great service. My only complaint would be that the restaurant is very small and you are likely to be seated in the outdoor space. The outdoor space although heated with propane heaters, can get a little cool.
My son’s 56th birthday
Miranda and her husband are such a delight. Her service was beyond excellent and her kindness was seen through her eyes. Very exquisite food with such flavors and a hidden gem 💎
We had a lovely dinner at Chou Chou. For appetizers we tried the green salad and the onion soup. The salad was very fresh with lots of tomatoes, and the onion soup was very hearty and tasty. For entrees we tried the beef bourguignon and the duck wellington and both were excellent. A side order of fries came piping hot to the table and were a great addition to our dinner. We look forward to returning to Chou Chou soon.
I planned this evening for a birthday and it turned out amazing. She was very happy and blown away by the service and the food. I would definitely suggest this again.
Service was poor/rude at times.
Food and Service was good but nothing spectacular.
I want to like Chou Chou Bistro so much. The renovation was done tastefully, the white everywhere makes it feel very fresh and welcoming, and the covered, outside space with its tall heaters makes it very comfortable. We went for a somewhat late dinner specifically for the mussels and fries and started with the crab/avocado salad. The salad was too much avocado and not enough crab or dressing, and the lettuce was undressed and somewhat limp. The fries were crisp and hot and delicious. But the mussels marinieres were a big disappointment. They tasted old, not fresh, and the white wine broth came white with cream that was not part of the menu description, making the mussels taste heavy and chewy, and the broth thicker and more gooey than desired. Service was good. We might try it again and choose something else. But .....
Nice little European-style bistro. I found the service to be just OK and rather impersonal. Overall the food is wonderful except for one dish I ordered (fettuccine Alfredo with chicken), which was underseasoned. Everything else was quite good. One reviewer said the coffee was terrible, but we really liked it. We'll be back to try one of the steak dishes we've heard they do extremely well.
Our family enjoyed our dinner at Chou Chou. I went to this restaurant many years ago and I was glad to find it's still there. But it was remodeled and now much brighter inside. The servers were friendly to the kids. We had a table in the outdoor area. We were very happy with the food and service.
Una buena opción de cena en San Francisco, la comida muy buena de cocina Francesa con algún toque de fusión con alguna otra cocina que no pudimos precisar
From entering the restaurant, you are welcomed by the staff. Nice decor and ambiance. When we dined there, it was quiet and intimate, just the right noise level. The food was superb! It was a very nice evening
Everything was absolutely delicious, the service was very friendly and the ambiance was just perfect - not too bright but airy and sophisticated. I will DEFINITELY be back soon!!
Service was attentive and accommodating. I had to change my reservation from 3 to 5 people last minute and they were able to accommodate. Food came out promptly and was delicious. Would definitely recommend!
We did not visit the place for several. Years. Now it is absolutely superb!
Really good food and service. Enjoyed the fixe price selection for SF week. Would definitely go back to try other items on the menu.
Perfectly prepared French food from start to finish. Good wine list and appreciative pour. Beautiful room, albeit limited seating. There is also a covered outdoor area with heat lamps. Professional service. Well worth crossing SF to get there.
We (6 of us) came here for the SF restaurant week. It's my first time to have the roasted grass fed bone marrow - Wow! It was delicious. Perfect with the toasted bread. I also had the Rack of Lamb and chocolate suffle for dessert. With a free glass of wine. The $25 corkage fee was reasonable. Service was fast and nice. Chef Mina was gracious to take our pictures and took one with us too. We will definitely come back to this quaint restaurant. Thank you very much for having us :-)
The food was quite good, in particular the mushroom soup was a standout. The service staff were thoughtful and attentive with the exception of the main server who seemed put off by any question and rather dismissive. A man we assumed to be the chef came out to help and he was delightful. We will definitely go back.
Food was amazing. The 2 new owners have revitalized the menu and quality of food. The remodel has made the restaurant much brighter and more Spacious. They have a lovely outdoor seating area as well. The two owners, One being the chef, were very attentive and answered our questions. Service staff was just OK. The gentleman who was seating people could work on being more friendly and down to earth. Overall, if you haven’t been to this restaurant in a while, give it another go.
The food was plentiful and delicious. They had great choices on their prixe fix menu for SF Restaurant Week. I would definitely return.
Had a bad first experience but we decided to give the restaurant a second chance. We had the tuna salad, lamb, and filet mignon, which all tasted delicious and well cooked. Great portion sizes and definitely left feeling nicely full. Had the pecan pie for the first time, and was very happy with it. Would recommend the crème brulee as well. One caveat- If you don’t like entrees on the sweeter side, I wouldn’t recommend the duck Wellington and the Beef bourguignon (which we had the first time). Kudos to the owner for a high touch experience.
If you live in the neighborhood, this could be a nice spot for a date night. I wouldn't travel from elsewhere in SF for it, as it's a bit expensive, and while most of the food was good, the main courses weren't as expected or up to the caliber of the price tag. Service was EXCELLENT, staff were friendly and knowledgeable about menu.
Safety - They offer outdoor dining, however there is a solid wall enclosing the patio with open airflow at the top, blocked by blinds, which is really just the same as being indoors with windows.
Perfect evening! Superb service in a safe environment! Would return in a heartbeat!
We had dinner here for our anniversary. It was delicious in a quaint environment! I highly recommend this cute little Forest Hill spot.
We had a wonderful meal and evening at Chouchou and look forward to returning soon!
I have not been to Chou Chou since it was acquired by new owners. The change is terrific. The interior is bright and fresh. The food was very good and the service and friendliness of the wait staff was excellent. My sole complaint is that the prices seemed very high. But I still loved it.
We came here for our 2nd time to celebrate a birthday and the food tasted all great!!! The wine we ordered, Pinot Noir was perfect to go with our filet mignon that was medium. Our other items was the creamy mushroom soup (soup du jour) and it was soo amazingly flavored, maybe a bit salty for someone who’s sensitive to sodium intake but I definitely loved this soup and would order again if it was on the menu. I got the grilled rack of lambs, and the madeira sauce on the lambs was well seasoned, again the salt on it was obvious but I didn’t mind at all. The mushroom buckwheat was not my favorite, so I requested their mashed potatoes which was well buttered and creamy. For dessert, we ordered the creme brulee and it was excellent as always! The staff made us feel special and the birthday boy felt celebrated too! I am soo happy we found the place great to celebrate and intimate birthday with super great wine selections and food selections.
Chou Chou is a neighborhood gem that does absolutely everything perfectly. Food, service, location – everything. It is low-key, family-friendly and usually uncrowded. The French onion soup is perfection, but the mushroom soup is from a different, even more delicious universe. The beef bourguignon and rack of lamb are amazing, and the burger is our kids' favorite in all of SF. Very romantic on a foggy night, too!
Great restaurant . Good quality food and reasonable prices.
The food was plentiful and presented well but a little heavy on the salt and garlic for these tastes. The soups were excellent as was the and crab special appetizer, but the bacon in the brussels sprouts was under cooked with a too much garlic. The prices are steep but the amount of food means that some of the food might come home with you for another meal. Lovely wait staff and fun French music helped with an otherwise bland ambiance.
Came here on our honeymoon to experience a taste of Paris. Wife tried escargots for the first time and loved it. Mussels ChouChou were great as well. We both had the beef bourguignon for our entree, and it was most excellent. Looking forward to coming back on an anniversary trip.
we really enjoyed the food. Started with beet salad & brussel sprouts. both good. Warm bread was very good. The Mushroom souffle was excellent, very tasty but rich. The duck confit wellington was very good. Service is attentive, though a bit rough.
We had an enjoyable experience with great service from the staff and the food was delicious. The waiter surprised me with a birthday dessert that ended the evening very memorable.
We used a Groupon for this restaurant which made our dinner a really good deal. The filet mignon and beef bourginon were delicious as well as the beet and arugula salad. Desserts were outstanding, creme brûlée and chocolate soufflé! The house red wine is outstanding, from France.
Second time dining here since Aug. Same great food and service. This time I tried the ahi tuna salad app and salmon for entree. We also ordered French onion soup, ravioli, and beet salad. Finished off with marscapone, lemon tart, and creme brulee for dessert. No disappointments and will return. The $59 three-course menu is a great bargain.
