Chula Taberna Mexicana
Busy spot. Very popular resto. The Kimchi taco had some overcooked tofu.
I am not certain if the Barbacoa was actually cooked in a pit as it tasted pressure cooked.
I would come back for cocktails but not necessarily a meal.
Chula never lets me down!! This outing was for Father's Day and everyone enjoyed their meals & the atmosphere!!
So disappointed. Service was rushed, food was mediocre. Guac had too many black chunks to be appetizing. Tacos were...ok; nothing amazing. The melty stadium cheese on some of the dishes was unappealing. The cocktails were surprisingly below average as well. The Papi margarita was good, but the Mami tasted like rim salt. The blueberry caipirinhas were undrinkable (and we love us some cachaça!).
The location has such potential, but the food and drinks completely tanked it.
Nice place with what looks to be a good menu but not the food to live up to it. Good tequila and mezcal menu.
The food was ok. Not the best Mexican by any means. The service was awful - so much attitude from every server. Definitely would not return and don’t recommend anyone wasting their hard earned money here.
Fabulous food! Had the tostado and it was amazing!
Friends had fish tacos....very substantial serving and delicious
I will definitely be back!
Early dinner on the patio. Service was slow. They appeared to be understaffed.
Probably one of the best Mexican restaurants in Toronto. Food was delicious. Service was excellent. Price was reasonable.
Only down side would be parking.
I went on a Sunday early so it wasn't too bad. Street parking.
Would recommend it though.
The food is amazing, great staff and the decor is beautiful...unfortunately it was a rainy night...so we will be back to enjoy the patio this summer!
As usual our meal was wonderful. The Mexican street corn was delicious and the selection of tacos we shared were inventive and very tasty. Our friends were instantly sold on the place. Can't wait til our next visit.
I loved the patio and the service was great but unfortunately, the food was just OK.
I would go back for drinks on the patio but not for dinner.
Love the food. Love the service. Arrived home with a sore throat from having to yell across the table. Not good.
Charming and attentive service +delicious food!
The initial service was provided by a bartender who seemed to give minimal effort to accommodating our patio request that day. He kept saying he would check if a seat was available, but never actually checked.
We finally just went outside on our own and sat at one of 3 available tables on the patio.
The drinks were okayish. Just had margaritas. Little too much ice caused some loss of flavour, but it was not terrible.
The food was actually terrible. Nothing mexican about these flavours. The meat is way too bold in flavour and does not even taste like tex mex. It is like over seasoned pulled pork and pulled beef. Not sure if the reason this meat tastes bizzare is due to it coming from the barbecue joint right next door. They are connected somehow because their employees come out of the same exit and take smoke breaks together.
Would not come here again. The food is beyond awful.
Chula is a hidden gem in Leslieville. Purists will probably say its not authentic, but their twist on everything Mexican Street Corn, Tacos, Burritos, Margaritas, etc. is exceptionally tasty made with fresh ingredients and those little touches that make everything just explode with flavour. Its a regular in my dining out rotation.
bistec y carnita bennies were great. classic marg needs a lot of work starting with being served in a tall glass, a big no no.
The reservation for two from open table literally got us the worst table in the house. Might as well have been in the bathroom and with the wait staff walking by constantly. So we ended up eating at the bar instead. The stools with mid rise backs were extremely uncomfortable. The food was okay but not the best tacos in town by any means. The tortillas were each slightly burnt (we had 6) and just not to my taste. Cool potential spot in Leslieville. But I won’t go back.
Food was excellent and service great.
We went to try the "enchiladas" but what we got was two flour tortillas burritos filled with meet and beans. I'm sorry but that is not an enchilada. And fo $ 17 bucks + tax it's pricey for what you get. It's very pretentious and not close to what real Mexican food is. It's very smal and crowded. BTW washrooms were filthy.
Amazing tacos! Taco Tuesdays are great and a great value. Loved the cocktails.
Great, Friendly and upbeat service!....went for Mother’s Day brunch....Server ran out to buy regular ketchup for our 6 yr old when we realized they only had spicy ketchup! Pico and Guacamole were amazing! Yummy food especially the pulled pork eggs Benedict. Great coffee....Only disappointment was the Margarita...fine... but pre-fab, lime syrup, hardly any tequila! A more memorable/natural Margarita would really bring in more clientele.
I love this restaurant. Food and atmosphere are great but the service is inconsistent. Most times service is good, but when the servers have no time for you and make you feel like you’re bothering them, it can really ruin the overall experience - even though everything else was amazing. I still enjoy going to Chula though and have never had a bad meal. Everything on the menu is great.
Chula NEVER ceases to exceed expectations!! Being a regular, I can honestly say it's quickly become one of my favourite restaurants in the city. I highly recommend Chula!!
Great food & atmosphere! We will be back.
Chula’s has great food, a lovely atmosphere but the service is just ok. Perhaps just an unenthusiastic server was having an off night, but did not appreciate that on top of the ok service and limited attentiveness, he managed to ask us to leave as there was a reservation for our table. It’s just plain rude. What if we decided to order another entrer? Would they have to make do? Dining is an experience and turning tables so restaurants can yield certain revenue has to be balanced with good service and care, not abrupt requests to the customer. Really left a bad taste in my mouth.
We were seated upstairs by the window. There was quite a draft. We much prefer the atmosphere on the main floor.
Always great food, ambiance and service. Our family loves it for both brunch and dinner!
The vibe here is really good and I would recommend for a drink and some snacks, however the tacos were nothing outstanding
The place and food are excellent except that our table is not stable and our server is odd. She seems like not in the mood or not happy working that night. She came with 2 glasses of water but since our table is not stable she put down the glasses on the next table beside us but before she came back the front person let some customers sit on that table. In the middle of our dinner I asked for water and she said the 2 glasses on the table next to us are supposed to our glasses, like seriously you would say that after being there for half an hour with people sitting already on that table? Seriously it's just a water, you don't need to tell that the water on the nect table is ours when there are already customers sitting and eating there food.
It was great Alex our server was great and flexible.
The atmosphere was pleasant and when I return looking forward to testing out the outdoor patio. Food was good and the service was great. Will return to try the various dishes.
Food is delicious, good prices and great service. The Margarita Habanero is amazing!
Great place to go for drinks and good eats.
Our server wanted the table. He asked far too many times if we were ready for the bill. He also let us know that our table had an 8pm reservation. It was a frustrating experience.
Really great experience! Food was delicious especially the cactus dip!
Forgot appetizer special. Remembered after mains delivered. No apologies or follow up. Service does not match food
Food was sub par. Underseasoned and overly wet, and wet tacos are not a win.
Some of the greatest Mexican in the city! The tacos are AMAZING!
Great service with a smile , great food ,great ambience! The cactus dip is to die for ! We thoroughly enjoyed it.we will definitely go back !
The food was good, but a little pricey for what you get. Most of the tacos have a mayonnaise type sauce on them so not a fan. The restaurant was tight, with too many tables crammed in. I felt like we were sitting on top of the people at both tables on either side. Service wasn’t the greatest, though I don’t think it’s a problem for the entire restaurant just the server we had.
