Cibo Centre St
This restaurant serves the Modern Italian cuisine with touch of classical zest and inspire the simple Italian flavors in best of its form.
We were mostly alone.
Brutal dining experience. We had a reservation for 8:30 pm on NYE and it was made quickly known they were closing and wanted us out. Our drinks took longer to arrive than our appetizers (which were good), and when we asked for more drinks before our dinner even arrived we were told the bartender was gone and our server said he didn't know where everything was (we wanted a diet coke and glass of wine), so we were never served another drink - even though the bartender was there, she was sitting at a table around the corner out of uniform on her phone. Our meals arrived and one of our entrees were missed (it was an additional risotto for the table to share) by the time the server returned to our table and we were able to ask about the missing dish we were 90% done with our meals, he had never rung it in. As we ate (without more drinks) the staff then began all sitting up at the bar eating their food, including the chef, it was weird, and we did not feel welcome at all - so much so we took our desserts to go and were out the door by 10 pm. We chose this restaurant as it's one of our locals and we want to support but if we're not even welcome and can't have a dining experience then what's the point. So disappointing. Absolutely BRUTAL experience.
This was my first time in a long time I have written a review on Open Table after all my years of dining experiences in Calgary. This is also my first time at Cibo on Center street. I used to frequent the Cibo on 17th SW and had assumed they are affiliated. But they are not apparently which was disappointing.
The experience started ok with the drinks.
Then it really went downhill. I ordered appetizers to start (arancini balls, truffle fries) plus 4 entrees to follow. After about 30 mins they came to the table with our entrees and totally skipped the appetizers. The server looked surprised when I asked him to take it back to the kitchen because we wanted to start with the appetizers and not rush the meal.
Ten minutes later the appetizers came out and were just okay. As soon as we were done, the meals came with mixed reviews. I could see it was just sitting over a heater waiting for the appies to be done. My son had the lasagna and enjoyed it. The other 2 meals (Italian Meatballs, Calabrese) were also ok. I had the Fruite de Mare (seafood linguine) and the mussels were raw with the larger ones green/grey on the inside and turned me off from eating the remainder of the seafood. At this point I didn’t complain because the other entrees were ok and I felt bad for the server.
Then my daughter ordered the warm sticky toffee pudding and it came out cold.
Note it was New Years Eve but it was not busy at all and they had plenty of staff in the restaurant and the kitchen.
Would I come back? I don’t think so!!
Nice little Italian place. Carbonara is amazing! Staff was super friendly. Will be back.
We enjoyed ourselves immensely. The restaurant has a lovely ambience with a fireplace that kept us warm on a cold night. Our server was attentive and responsive to us. We had chicken parmigiana which was nicely seasoned and beautifully done and carbonara which was so tasty and creamy! The focaccia bread was light and well seasoned. I look forward to coming back as Cibo never disappoints
Food is great. Our server barely acknowledged us for the first hour and then at 830 started rushing us through, she made us order desserts and brought them out while we had barely started our mains. She let us order drinks at 845 but then hovered over us the entire time. I understand they close at 9 but then don't take a reso for 6ppl at 730pm. Either your kitchen closed at 9 or you close it earlier so you can get out for 9. Worst service.
Went to this restaurant for the first time and for my wife's birthday. The ambiance is very nice, noise is low and decor is very nice. The food was awesome, warm and cook to our like. My wife had the steak and it it taste very good with that little bit of char on it. I had the lasagna and it was very tasty. Our server was very attentionate and took well care of us. One thing, which had been corrected later, is that we were given white wine glasses with a red bottle of wine and it's hard to aerate a red wine in a white wine glass. One last thing is that: it might not be a common practice at this restaurant, but when you go out for a meal that will cost over 150$ you expect the server to top up your wine as your glass is empty. For those two reasons I give a 4 stars. Overhaull it was a great exprerience in a beautiful ambiance and we will go back to CIBO for more awesome meal.
Delicious food and great service. It is always a great experience.
Great food, great service. Enjoyed our lunch and will be back again soon! Calamari was delicious, good wine selection and wonderful parm chicken and risotto.
Always great food and atmosphere
Enjoyed the food and drink, but not the dessert - Chocolate Lava Cake, the cake was melted and laid flat when it was served.
For a Friday night, it was pretty quiet. You can tell there is some new staff in the kitchen. Pizza was good, but was better before.
Vongole pasta was a bit disappointing. Flat flavour and not much broth.
Great spot for comfort Italian food! Very nice for date night. The fruits de Mara was delicious as well as the bruschetta.
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Cibo Centre St. The food was fresh and delicious. A fresh pasta and a fresh pizza crust make all the difference! Am actually going to order some pizza to the house tonight! We are officially hooked :-)
Service was extraordinarily slow. Food was bland. Very disappointing.
Always consistent! Food is great and the servers are wonderful!
Worst service in 10 years. Young gal was more interested in chatting with her buddies that were there. Had to as someone else for cutlery and drinks. Food was just ok, overall was not a good experience.
So disappointed. Cibo used to be great and we would go weekly. This time it was horrible. It was not busy at all, yet for some reason our food took over an hour. The waitress never came to check on us or apologize for the wait. As soon as the food arrived we asked for it to go. This place has really gone downhill. I won’t be back which is really sad.
A nice spot...The service was good, the meals were quick, hot and was excellent. Would recommend for dinner at any time.
Moms first time in a restaurant in 18 months.
Hoping they return to their pre pandemic quality & service. Disappointed to realize they are not there yet.
The food was tasty and our waitress was very good. My only comment would be that the restaurant didn’t feel homey/Italian, it was a bit sterile.
Birthday dinner. Food was good and fast
Food is amazing and the service is excellent. Extra characters here so I can submit my review
Food was good…service was good.
Food was served quickly and arrived hot. The pasta was a bit on the dry side. Overall the dining experience was not up to the usual experiences we have previously had there
Great value and get together location.
Excellent menu and food, fast and friendly service. Great patio!
Cibo is a hidden gem. This neighbourhood restaurant has great ambience, delicious food and friendly staff. We went on a Friday night with two young children and the servers made us feel welcome and the kids loved their spaghetti. We will definitely be visiting again.
I had chicken parmegiana. The pasta was undercooked (stll a little crispy) and the chicken was overcooked ( a little on the hard and dry side).
We've eaten here many times but this was a disappointment. Loud hip hop music has replaced the Italian ambience and we couldn't have a conversation. I had the pepperoni pizza which had very tasty pepperoni but no tomatoes or tomato sauce. Will wait awhile before trying again.
We were there early so there was only one other diner there. We enjoyed the time we were there.
I can say this is some of the best Italian food in Calgary. Unfortunately, our server was new or not very skilled, forgot a meal and seemed to forget drink orders until reminded.
Great food, good location excellent Mohitos. Highly recommended
cibo on centre is becoming our favourite casual dinner or lunch spot. they always have great deals on food and drink. close and central to our home. cant wait to come back.
Pear Pizza was delicious!
Great atmosphere, amazing food, good variety, clean and welcoming.
Good food and attentive to my request for a little extra pasta - a definite plus!
Will done there again
We went on a Friday around 2:00 PM, it was not too busy. Our server messed up my order, appetizers came late, that did not affect us, as we understand restaurants are working hard to get back to normal. What did matter was the food, the pizza was ok, the arancinis were awful, soggy french fries, and the beer on tap was not cold. I hope they can improve, Cibo in 17th was way better
