   Such a disappointing visit. It was my first and will be last. I was excited to book what was described as a neighborhood gem, and we love French food, so we brought our family here. I really should've tried before I decided to do so. What seemed like their signature dish, the wellington, was well done. I used my phone's flashlight to check because it was so chewy. French onion soup was mild, and the broth itself had minimal flavor. Now on to the service part. They seated 3 of us on one side of the table when it's suitable for 2 people. I wouldn't really call anything we got as "service", felt like the interactions were what you'd expect at casual restaurants. Perhaps my expectations were too high.

   Zach our waiter was fantastic!!! From the moment I called Cocotte I felt fully taken care of. It is very rare these days to get such great service and this small, lovely bistro delivered! They sat us in a quiet, little curtained off, red lit room for my birthday. There was a small sign on the table w/my name on one side and Happy Birthday written in French in the other. It was delightful and beautiful. Zach explained the menu with detail and kindness. I had a kid royal & my husband ordered the Rosé. Both lovely. Then we opted for the salmon appetizer which was subtle and delicate. It would have been lovely to have more horse radish in the sauce, but the brioche was delish. Then we ordered the beef Wellington and mussels & fries. The mussels and fries were fabulous. The beef Wellington would have used more flavor & the sauce w/it tasted of black licorice- perhaps on purpose, but it was not to our liking. The beef was cooked well. For dessert we had the banana creme brûlée & the apple Tarte Tatin. Both were good, but too sweet in the end. Overall we would return to this special, little spot and try a few more of the yummy looking starters- like the waffle & the chicken pâté. Thank you for making my birthday so special!!! I love all things French and this place felt like a little bistro in Paris!!!

   We’re from Denver and try to get to Cocotte when we get to San Francisco. We’ve been there at least four times over many years and never miss a chance.

   The food was surprisingly good! Went for 2023 SF Restaurant Week and thoroughly enjoyed my choices - truffle tremor goat cheese beignet, the beef filet mignon wellington, and both the banana creme brulee and apple tarte tatin. Others in my party tried the seared rainbow trout and crusted tuna carpaccio and also enjoyed these dishes!

   Cocotte was surprisingly wonderful The beef wellington was great. The creme brulee was fabulous. The service was truly outstanding. We asked for extra sauce to take home that was with the beef wellington and we were given it. The food came out very quickly and we ate in less than an hour even though the restaurant was packed and there was a long line waiting.

   This little French gem of a restaurant is wonderful. My meal was delicious and I especially loved my side dish of Ratatouille! The host and waiter were very attentive. We sat outside with a heater to warm us up. The wine was great...and the music superb! the Tim Shea trio, Hypsteria, was perfect with some French songs thrown in.

    We had a wonderful evening at Cocotte celebrating an anniversary. Kamilo was so attentive and helpful with the meal and wine pairing. We had the order of mussels and the Beef Wellington. They were kind enough to half the Wellington for us to share since would have been far to large for one of us. Everything was cooked perfectly and the restaurant is a jewel. We could not have had a better experience. Also the cable cars go right by which was a big plus for us. 5-star all the way.

    The food was delicious but the music was unnecessarily LOUD. It did not need amplification,which it had. Acoustic would have been appropriate and the musicians should have the power to play mp or Soto vocce. We will never come here again when they are playing, which is apparently weekends. Management seemed I knowledgeable and incapable of any change in the volume.

    Overall ambiance is different. The lighting is dim so hard to read menu, and speaker music is loud. The menu is clear and straight forward. The Coq au vin was dry and the bone marrow that comes with the beef wellington doesn't have any marrow left. Chocolate lava cake was good but the apple tart was a disappointment. Didn't have much crust.

    Salads are notable, delicious and somewhat unique. All entree's quite good. As for dessert, we only tried the Tarte Tartin = slightly different from other presentations, but lovely & YUM!

    Really enjoyed our time here. Ambience was great, service was fantastic. This was hands down the best Beef Wellington I have ever had!! Cannot recommend enough. We got a last minute reservation to celebrate our anniversary and it was the perfect way to do so. If you have the opportunity, highly recommend!!

    Loved it. We had a table for 5 for nye, it was outside but well heated. Saw other reviews complain about the noise, in our case it wasn’t a problem (maybe because we were outside), and there was a band which we really liked. Would recommend!

    We decided on this restaurant for our NYE kick-off. After being greeted by a delightful front of house team that hung our coats and welcomed us to our table, our server brought us a bottle of bubbles to kick things off while we waited for the remaining member in our party. The jazz band played. We enjoyed an incredible meal. The starters were delicious. Crab, salad and duck. We sampled it all. The beef Wellington was best in class and we are still talking about it. Dessert. Best in show goes to the chocolate option. Thank you for helping create such a memorable evening and sending us into 2023 in style.

    This little French restaurant is great. The food was absolutely delicious and the portions were surprisingly large. A few things to note: the wine is very over priced. $60 minimum for a bottle of red (up to $130 or so if I recall correctly). Expect about $18 a glass. Another thing is that you will get an entirely different experience depending on which direction you’re faced in the restaurant. Place yourself positioned facing the door so you can enjoy the soft light of the restaurant instead of the white light of the kitchen.

    We used to live in the neighborhood year ago and thought that Xmas Eve would be a nice time to return. They offered a pre-fix menu for the evening and it was spectacular! I had the Dungeness crab & avocado napoleon and my husband had the duck confit rilette, both tasty. For our mains he had the scallops and I had the filet Wellington which was practically enough for two. The atmosphere was cozy and transported us back to Paris. It’s an amazing little gem that packs great service and food on a quintessential SF street.
